well there you go. get known and you might get considered for judging positions for packs or ffr. if you dont get involved then you wont get noticed

FFR was down, kbo was a bit on the strict side for me, and I'm not really an SM player. Kinda hard to get known amidst the judges. Plus none the less I may not be known to most of the guys here but I'm pretty well known to the regular old community. Over the 10 months I got to hear what these people wanted, what bothered them, basically I've heard everything from all angles and I have a pretty good idea of what people want because I listened to them. I don't really care if I'm a judge I just want to know that it's not going to be all strict. Would I do it if I were asked to sure because frankly since I'm pregnant, not working, and home bored all day it would give me something to do lol.

Why do you not believe me? Is it because I'm perceived as an elitist and thus by definition must have views that crush the stepmania proletariat?

psychoangel, I dont think most of us have any issues judging. Problem is we don't know your abilities. Once you get a bit more known to the stepfile portion of the community, then there will be no more question.

I wasn't asking to judge. I merely wanted my opinions and concerns to be heard as well. When I look at how people are being chosen it's kinda like they're only being chosen because they've made a ton of charts. But there are people out there that are just as capable that haven't made a whole bunch. There are some of us that just like to look at the charts, analyze them, whatever but aren't as big on actually making them ourselves. I get too frustrated when I try to make charts because even though I know what to do and what not to do since I haven't been doing it long it's not as easy for me to do myself without checking it a million times and moving slowly. That's not enjoyable to me. The 10 months on df has been great getting to see what everyone comes up with for charts, helping new stepartists learn and grow and man did we see growth out of people there. I think you guys are going to be surprised at some of the submissions from people that you're going to be like whoa where did they come from. And I got to be a part of that and it was great. I guess it just bugs me on how a person is considered qualified to do it. When in reality isn't this game about the community?

The problem isn't qualifications. The problem is just people don't know. I mean, I didn't really make charts for kbo either, but the sake of downloading and reviewing stepmania packs (I don't really play either), the fact of reviewing in-game FFR files back in the day, just having people know that you aren't just someone random. Personally I didn't even know DF existed until 3 days ago.

When charts start getting released in game again, review them. That's how (at least I) got recognized at first as someone who even knows slightly what their talking about. Just gotta let people know.

Oh and going to what you said about all these new artists. I'm looking forward to seeing these submissions. We need more artists to revive the general FFR and Stepmania community

Nah there's plenty of people that know what I've been doing the past 10 months and maybe to some it's pathetic because FFR died and I just tried to keep it alive with DF. Now as I said earlier though we were way more relaxed on judging on DF because it was more about the community and just fun stuff to play. We started getting more strict once we got a good bit of files in game but still not as much. There's over 100 files on there right now. Are they perfect nah but it also helped new stepartists learn and grow. The community got to tell them what they liked/disliked about the charts it was nice. I'm not trying to say there should be no standard that it should just be about fun I don't want you guys to think I'm saying that. I just don't want to see a file that's like super fun and people would enjoy get denied because of a minor error or two. Like my PR on The final hour I didn't PR it all the way through and as I said it was my 3rd chart and 1st time attempting to PR runs but I wanted to make sure patterns didn't end up stupid because of some of the technical things. So I did it how I felt it was most enjoyable.

If you are known as a good judge/reviewer, that skill should be counted for sure (even if you don't have files or have only a few files in the game).

Oh and Kory there were times I would download peoples charts and review them but I went unnoticed because I wasn't known. Kinda like how my 1st post here went ignored. People don't really notice me and it amazes me how many people didn't know of DF cause people posted it all over including on KBO. Anyone is welcome to go check it out and see what we've been doing there it's not like it's exclusive or anything. Altho some things are hidden if you aren't a registered user. www.dragonsfury.forumotion.net is the forums. Nothing was perfect there either but we were just having a good time doing what we were doing lol. Stepwars was a ton of fun but the submissions started to slow. But I expected that with people going back to school and such.

An example of a review I did on DF. This one was when it 1st started and I was nervous as hell about writing them lol.

You're getting really close with this file but it feels like you're trying to force it to be more difficult. The biggest issue is you're continuing the runs when the song has cooled down. After the one jumpstream section you continue the run when the music has softend up then towards the end again you put in another run which just feels out of place with the sound of the music. But don't give up you really aren't far off I enjoy the rest of the chart just play around with those sections a little more."

In my reviews I always try to add encouragement in them it helps motivate people to keep trying and improve.

You could be a little more specific. Maybe mention the specific measures/time in the song. Also give suggestions to what can be used in place of the runs.

Encouragement is good, but people need to know why a part needs to be changed, and without specifics it gets confusing
