Fix'd.
I knew we had a couple of judges that had quit, or in some cases, "quit," so I suspected the might have needed more help. I'm not the most experienced, but I'm not a bad stepartist either. I figured throwing my name out there couldn't hurt, supposing JX was having trouble finding more judges... Sorry if I'm stepping on toes.Comment

edit: to be completely honest, I think I'd make a pretty good judge even though no one's really played any of the files I've made...if you guys ever run short and are desperate for judges, give me a holler

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
I don't mind who judges to be honest but to those who are offering to become a judge, make sure you're able to do the following things:
• Being able to distinguish the numerous amount of errors in a file.
• Being able to step a simfile decently without help.
• Knowing the FFR judging system well and knowing how to rate files.
EDIT: Also, having experience judging for a legit pack of some sort is a bonus
Things that would AUTO Quality you as a judge IMO:
• If you're a Light/Dark Chancellor and you know how to find errors in a file.
• If you have judged for FFR in the past. (Before the site went down)
• If you are known to step good files on FFR or Stepmania and know about the FFR judging system.
As long as you have the following, I would think you're qualified enough to become a FFR judge.
Also, here's advice to those new people becoming judges for this batch and for future batches: Make sure to play the file first BEFORE looking in the editor. Why do i say this? Well, it's because when you play a file first, you will be able to tell if the file was fun or boring and you might even be able to find a few issues within the file itself just by playing it. If you go straight to the editor and judged the file without even playing it, there's a good chance that you will give the file a lower rating than it really is because you only based your rating on just the errors you found in the editor rather then rating the file by BOTH what you played and looked at in the editor.
Thing you should be aware of when judging a file IMO: (There's probably more i haven't stated)
• Do not reject a file mainly because of song choice. If you don't like the song, get over it. Don't use that as your main reason why you rejected a file. (Also, don't be surprised if you get raged at later when you do this)
• Tell the user where the main errors are located, don't just say that the file has errors and just leave it as that.
• Judge every file equally even if you think it's a joke file. Take it seriously. (I learned this the hard way)
• Try not to be an asshole when you judge a file. For example: "Wow dude, your file sucks balls. I could make a file better then this with my eyes closed..." or "WTF WERE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU MAKE MEASURE 69 A RAINBOW TRILL? NEVER STEP AGAIN" *Looks at Kory*
This is just what I think, feel free to comment/flame about it if you wishLast edited by i love you; 01-5-2011, 01:30 AM.===============================

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Knowing the judging system is an iffy thing to have put up there since there's been so much talk and consideration about changing it. But I have been reading up on old file reviews, I read deeply into my own reviews to see what I do need to look for, and I watched what a lot of judges did.
The checklist you gave Byron was actually pretty good. Most of it I already took into consideration, some of it I learned anew. As Jimerax said, we're backup judges for the time being. Even if I don't get to be a judge in this batch, I'll still be sitting down with other reviews to see what all gets done. I have a lot of time on my hands :P
For those that don't know, I've got about 8+ files in DF's engine so it's not like I've only stepped a few things before. I didn't get anything else except my resubmission in for this batch because I didn't get the permissions I wanted :/ but next batch I'm looking to get more in there.Glorious Morning - Misc, level 48

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Lol 8 files is still very little considering almost all the judges have 70+ files made

So? That wasn't the point of me saying how many I had. It was to point out that I did have some and where they were. Please stop getting on my case Carlos.Glorious Morning - Misc, level 48

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Oh, I didn't mean to come across that way -- I'm just surprised that all of a sudden, people feel like they want to help out. I could care less if people decide they want to volunteer, it's ultimately JX's decision to pick who he wants. I personally think you'd make a great backup judge (or fill-in for a primary, if spots are open).Fix'd.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Thing is about being a judge(and I was told this back when I offered) is that it doesnt matter how much time on your hands or whatever doesnt mean you would make a good judge. Anyone on this site could easily open then editor, play through and give their thoughts on the file, but it isnt that easy. People who can barely step a file themselves really shouldnt be judges because they yet to know how to step correctly themselves let alone point about what others are doing wrong. Having files on DF isnt anything to use as backup for having files. They're very lenient with judging and files are easily accepted there. You can tell since many people from DF submitted their files here in the last batch and a good chunk were rejected. With judges like Halo I can see how he judges differently between the two, over there he is pretty light on files, he comes to judge for FFR and he tightens up a bit because FFR is a little more ancy about what files get in. They are not 100% going for the fun factor in a file like DF's intentions might be. All in all to be a judge basically need to follow that list Rebound posted. We already had a few people that imo that snuck away with being a judge when they shouldnt have, really dont need more. Even being a backup and not knowing what you are doing isnt good because if you end up having to take action for someone who didnt do their notes, you are not going to be any help at all.Comment
