    Re: PS3 is dead (IMO)

    I love how you guys just let Squeek bully you into believing his warped view of video games. I literally just read that mind-rape he pulled on you and am ashamed of you all. Squeek, no I did not pull that from video game websites. I pulled those from my compilations of reading Electronic Gaming Monthly, Game Informer, and GamePro, three well respected gaming magazines. EGM compared the Wii to PS3. I think the average scores for both systems release titles were:

    Sony: 6.1%
    Nintendo: 6.5%

    Wow. That's really a big margin in difference Squeek. Oh and let's not forget 8.8.8.8.8.8.8.8 cause that was really cool too. TP for Wii is just like KH2 for PS2. Extremely hyped up and good to some extent and not what you were looking for. Oh yes, I bought TP for GC. Amazing game if I should say so myself. Would I consider buying it for the Wii? Of course not. The controls were tacked on last minute and it felt that way to me, but I digress.

    Also, you talked about games being ranked. 35 in total if I recall. Wow, can you name a few of those games for me Squeek? I'll name them for you:

    * Avatar: The Last Airbender
    * Cars
    * Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
    * Elebits
    * Excite Truck
    * Far Cry
    * GT Pro Series
    * The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
    * Madden NFL 07
    * Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
    * Metal Slug Anthology
    * Monster 4x4 World Circuit
    * Need for Speed: Carbon
    * Open Season
    * Rayman Raving Rabbids
    * Red Steel
    * SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab
    * Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
    * Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
    * Trauma Center: Second Opinion
    * Wii Sports

    Now if you'll notice, most of those games are for the younger demographic. Hmm, the Wii was released November 12th right? OHSNAP JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON!

    Seriously Squeek grow up. You're determining the worth of a machine by it's launch title and companies screw-ups. Nobody remembers Nintendo screwing Sony for the cd add-on do they? Nobody remembers Miyamoto canceling online play for the Gamecube do they? Hell, nobody remembers the damn half-good, half-flop Gamecube anyway, do they? To bring up what Jewpin said earlier, Sony knows what's going on and what they have to do to set it straight. You act like Sony is going," Hurr, Nintendo is selling more than us combined guys. We should just stop maiking PS3 lol" Do some research and you'll find some of the more anticipated titles for next-gen are either Microsoft or PS3. What's the next big game coming out for Wii besides SSB and MAYBE Metroid Prime?

    Super Mario Galaxy? The next Legend of Zelda? All Late 2007/early 2008 timetables my friend. I refuse to let you bully me into not getting a PS3 and a Wii just because you feel you hate everything Sony and everyone else should as well.

      rofl

      Chromer, chill out and, if you'd please, check your fanboyisms at the door.

      The PS3 is doing worse than the Wii. The Wii is selling better and is cheaper. Nintendo is turning a profit while Sony is losing money. Even looking to the future, the PS3 is only comparable to the Wii in terms of upcoming releases. The PS3 would need to trounce the competition just to turn a profit, and personally, I don't see this happening, mostly due to it's initial high cost.

      Chromer, really, it's not about being a fan of the system or not. I have loved Playstation and PS2 ever since I got them. Seriously, I don't even own a Gamecube or Xbox. However, charging so much for PS3 then not even having as many good games as Wii really ****ed Sony over and I really don't see them coming away from this making any money from it. How do you expect the PS3 to overcome both the Wii and Xbox360 when both are much cheaper and have more popular games?

      ps

      Really? let's see... I'll mark all children's games in red, all games for teens/adults specifically in blue and games for anyone in purple:
      • Avatar: The Last Airbender -- Based on an animated television show for children. Obviously directed at children.
      • Cars -- Based on an animated family movie. Most likely intended expressly for children.
      • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 -- Fighting game based on a relatively violent anime. Rated T.
      • Elebits I don't know a whole lot about this game. I hear it's a lot like Katamari. If so, it'd be easy for a child to play.
      • Excite Truck Good natured driving game. Probably a very good game for kids.
      • Far Cry I have no idea about this game, but it's rated M.
      • GT Pro Series Never heard of it, but it looks like a good natured racing car game. Probably good for kids, but also enjoyable by any adult who likes racing games.
      • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Rated T? Yeah...
      • Madden NFL 07 Sports. How many little kids do you know who are big fans of these? They could enjoy it, but I doubt that little kids would prefer this game to many other Wii games.
      • Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Marvel hero fighting game. Is this a hack and slash type? Either way, even though some children may be interested in Spider-man or some of the other heroes, I doubt if this game would be very good for the young 'nes. Rated T.
      • Metal Slug Anthology Admittdly, I don't know a lot about this game, but it's rated T, so there.
      • Monster 4x4 World Circuit I have never heard of this game before and I don't care enough to even look it up. Sounds like it's a monster truck racing game... sound familiar (Excite Truck)?
      • Need for Speed: Carbon -- Street racing. Rated E10+. Not so sure about this... likely directed at an older audience... I'll just call it purple because it is rated "E" techinically, even if younger people may not enjoy it as much.
      • Open Season Based on an animated movie. Definitely for children.
      • Rayman Raving Rabbids From what I hear it's a game with lots of minigames to it. Probably easily playable by children, but young adults and teens would probably get more play/fun out of it.
      • Red Steel Sword fighting and first person shooting. No way in hell would this be a good game for little kids.
      • SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab Based on an animated show which is popular even with young adults. However, it is unlikely that anyone outside of children are targetted with this game.
      • Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz Simple game with simple gameplay. Easily playable by children, even though a child would probably have a hard time completing the game.
      • Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam I would assume that falling in downhill skating is even more violent than the falls in previous Tony Hawk games. However, it's rated E, so I'm not sure... Every THPS game so far has been rated T and I doubt that too many younger children would be interested in a game series that has since been rated T in every instance.
      • Trauma Center: Second Opinion Cutting people open and doing things inside of their body? This can't be a very good game for children.
      • Wii Sports Same story as Super Monkey Ball. Simple gameplay that even a child could easily partake of, but they'd likely have a hard time doing especially well at it.
      Ok... 4 games specifically for children, 7 specifically for older people (teens/adults) and 10 games which could be enjoyed by anyone.

      pps
      Sony: 6.1%
      Nintendo: 6.5%
      Rating of Wii games: 6.5%
      Cost of Wii system: 250$

      Rating of PS3 games: 6.1%
      Cost of PS3: 600$

      So... the games for PS3 are rated as almost as good as the Wii games, and at the same time, the PS3 costs more than 2x more.

        Re: PS3 is dead (IMO)

        Thanks Afro.

        PS, 2 things.

        1) Wii was released on the 19th. Yes, just in time for Thanksgiving. I'm glad I got it because I was able to have it in time for my cousins coming over to my house. Guess what. Even my aunts and uncles and PARENTS, people who are approaching 60 years old, enjoyed it. Can you honestly say the same thing about the PS3? Would my 58-year old retired war veteran uncle have enjoyed watching humans die in Resistance? Because watching is all he'd do. There's no way he'd learn how to use that many buttons, nor would he care.

        I guarantee that console would not have been watched or even cared about if it were a PS3. But the Wii always, ALWAYS had an audience whether we were playing Sports, Zelda, or Monkeyball.

        2) GameRankings is a compilation of ALL websites AND gaming magazines. Just using three magazines is nothing compared to using forty sources to average a game rank.

        pps before you go crazy on Afro, note that "E" means "everyone", not "only kids can play this worthless crap".

        ppps here're the 35 games with at least one ranking for Wii

        1. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
        2. WarioWare: Smooth Moves
        3. Trauma Center: Second Opinion

        5. Rayman Raving Rabbids
        6. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
        7. Wii Sports

          I have no intention of buying crappy 3rd party games such as Barnyard just because I want to see what a high-definition cow looks like ( I want to by the way XD).

          Afro, no I'm not being a fanboy. I love Nintendo just as much as I love Sony. However their recent decisions sans Wii, left me feeling dissapointed, kinda like Sony dissapointed Squeek. However, I can forgive their mistakes. Squeek is a true fanboy (yes you are Squeek) and cannot forgive Sony. You can't compare the Wii to the PS3. They are two totally different machines: one a video game console and the other basically a digital media center. If I was a fanboy Chris, I would be in here bashing Nintendo to Kingdom Come but I'm not. Squeek is and he bullied you guys into changing how you felt just because he feels Sony should suffer for their recent sins. I don't. Hey, if you want to follow Squeek go ahead, doesn't bother me none.

            Why would I forgive Sony?

            They've shown no signs of caring about their consumers whatsoever. They lie, they cheat, and they steal.

            Not that all conglomerates don't, but Sony has been caught for it many many times. AND THEY STILL DO IT.

            now it's off to work I go so enjoy conversing =)

            ps it's a good idea to read other gaming websites' debates about the PS3 as well. They offer a lot harsher material than I could ever muster. Good luck =)

                I've managed to find one site that praises it as the best among the rest.

                One.

                Isn't the entire purpose of this thread to prove that the PS3 isn't going to be top-dog? It probably won't DIE, but I doubt it'll do well, at least as well as its predecessor (which is outselling it every week, by the way).

                NOW I'm off to work.

                      What.

                      No, seriously, what.

                      The PS3 is as of right now doing very poorly and they have little going for them in the near future. Bluray is terrible compared to HDDVD due to its high manufacturing cost.

                      ps Squeek isn't being a fanboy. He's being an antifanboy.You however, really are being a fanboy. Even though the PS3 has such ****tiness to it you keep praising it as though somehow the high manufacturing cost (and subsequently retail price) will go away and that bluray will somehow reign supreme. How is Sony supposed to come out on top when it has little going for it and costs 2x more than its competition?

                      How will they do this? How do you expect them to overcome their manufacturing costs and poor market share to actually turn a profit?

                      There is no way in hell the PS3 will even come close to stacking up to the PS2. Oh and you know why the PS2 would still be selling well? I believe it now retails for 125$ or so. That's a 475$ difference. The PS3 costs nearly 5x as much as the PS2.

                        Chromer, Squeek didnt turn me and Tosh from the PS3, Ps3 having a grand total of 11 games at a time on the hard drive, costing 600 bucks, having games that few people care about, and the fact that you cant play most Namco/Capcom/Konami ps2 games off it tuned us from it (you can find a link to a list of non-working PS2/PS1 games at IGN.com)

                        11 games? I have 37 games for my ps2 (yes I know that owning every Tekken and DDR have brought up the number) add the fact that PS3 games are going to cost 70 big ones = a mess for Sony

                        Just to clear this up: Im a Sony Fanboy. I do love Nintendo, but that fanboy died in 1997. Ive been on Sony's side for a long time now.

                        My mom went to the same college that Bob Ross was teaching at back in the 70's. Back then the kids use to make fun of him but I went there awhile ago and now it's cool to like "The Happy Tree Guy" lolololol This is rich!!!

                          And so was the Xbox 360 and the PS3.

                          That's the worst argument I've ever heard for...anything. I don't even get what the point of proving the Wii is for a younger demographic is going to prove anyway. Games like True Crime: New York City prove that games for a "mature" audience can suck absolute balls (and it's not uncommon) and Viva Pinata proves that games intended for younger kids can be good.

                            Sony rushed the launch. It's rather obvious. They also believe in the blu-ray technology and everything else in it. Very rough start and looks bad, but only time will tell. The launch games for PS3 are lackluster in terms of launch games... Nothing to warrant a $600 tag right now. Future? Yeah, probably, if you really want a number of games as well as have a TV to take advantage of it. Otherwise you're just paying extra for the games that you want... :/

                            Sony is aiming for the tech-savvy gamers, as well as the ones who MUST have their exclusive games. Microsoft is aiming at all types of the main gamers. Nintendo is aiming for everyone. Same market, different directions. The PS3 is much more limited in market, so it has a lot to prove.

                            Personally, I get my fill of the types of games Sony and Microsoft offer on my PC, so I don't need them. Nintendo has always been my jello. I'm full, but theres always room for jello. :>

                              So what if alot of games for the Wii look like their for young people, that doesn't mean they are not fun for older people as well. As long as a game is fun I don't care what age group it's focused at. The Wii can be enjoyed by all ages.

                                Chris how am I being a fanboy? All I'm saying is 1.) Don't let Squeek bully you into not getting a PS3 if you really want one, and 2.) Don't doom Sony to failure just because of a not so stellar launch and ****ty prices which you seem to be doing a good job of at the moment.
