This isn't a battle with Chromer. I'm just putting the facts on the table.

If you want to keep claiming that it'll "win", you need to prove to me why. Because as it is, the numbers clearly show that it has very little chance of doing it.

But then again, I'll wait until next year to pass judgement on it. There's no way I could call a two-month old system that's supposed to be on the market for ten years "dead".

I think the PS3 is going to fail but I don't think it will kill Sony. People who think so must think the only thing Sony does is Playstation. There will be some good games coming out for PS3 but I don't think it will be enough. Sales are going to be too poor to lower the price if things keep going as is. I just don't see too much hope for the PS3.

So, hey, check it out: there’s this awesome new gaming system that we just can’t stop playing. Too bad it’s so hard to find in stores – we guess they just didn’t make enough of them. It’s called the Nintendo Wii, and holy mother of Zelda, is it ever a blast. If the Wii is cool with polygamy, we might ask it to marry us.

The controller – so easy! No more intricate push-this-twice, pull-that-three-times trickery, just easy waves of the hand. The console – so cute! It actually makes our gaming room look better, unlike the bulky, ugly consoles we could mention. How does Nintendo keep the price so low on that thing, anyway? And the games, good Lord, the games! Not to mention those adorable avatars. We’ve already created virtual versions of the entire staff, so we can beat each other virtually-bloody instead of actually-bloody, like we usually do. The only problem is that none of the nose options are as big as Jason’s actual nose. But that’s a minor quibble.

In fact, we love the Wii so much, we want to give a Wii to everybody on our payroll. To fund this Wii-for-the-People program, we're selling this Sony PlayStation 3. The SIXAXIS wireless controller is basically the same complicated gazillion-button-style controller you know from past PS models, but at least you won’t be fighting Grandma for gaming time. Along with the usual roster of ho-hum games, the PS3 can play CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray discs, and the 20GB hard drive can store music, videos, and music videos. It’s certainly, er, rather full-figured, for those of you who want a lot of heft for your money. And its HDMI capabilities give you polygons and frames-per-second out the wazoo, if you prefer that stuff to having fun.

Best of all, for every PS3 you buy, we can buy Wiis for two of our employees. So when you get frustrated by those intricate combo-button moves, or bored by the underwhelming game offerings for the PS3, keep the spirit of the season in mind. Remember all those happy Woot staffers whose lives have been changed by their super-fun Nintendo Wiis, paid for by you. Heartwarming, isn’t it?

just one thing to add...many people including myself are at a wait. Halo 3 with a TBA 2007 release date. a lot of people are waiting to hear the word on whether or not its good. its just the game seemed to put x-box on the map and im sure others are waiting to see if it still puts ps to shame as far as FPS go. if not and IF ps3 gets a good game release say the next 6 months...they're over. oh and as far a Square, they will drop ps in a heartbeat. there is no contract to bind them and by the looks of sales it would seem they would port wii if anywhere.

crap im on the wrong account :'(

                          No, it's about the same.

The same number of movies will be released in each version. Some are in both versions, some are just for one or the other.

And then again, about fifty times the number of movies will be released on DVD. So what's your point?

Actually Squeek, you are wrong on this one. While the number may not be substantial, there are more companies signed up on Blue Ray than HD-DVD.

Also, I could go off on Squeek for his fanboyish comment (I know he's been waiting a long time to say that by the way) and essentially he's correct. There is no reason to buy a PS3 at the moment. However 2007 seems like a good year for the PS3 with the release of highly anticipated titles like MotorStorm, Warhawk, MGS4 and others. Squeek said that most of the games are going to be ported to the 360 so why bother? Yeah Squeek, and Kojima said that there were no plans on porting MGS4 at the moment so I'm taking that argument with a grain of salt.

Is the PS3 dead? Of course not. Playstation Online sales show that there are people who use this thing and I highly doubt that the PS3 will die anytime soon. However, I'm not saying it's alive and kicking as well. It's like the Terry Schiavo of the next-gen consoles right now: not getting better and not getting worse. However, like I said before, comparing two-month old next-gen consoles (Wii and PS3) to a one year console (360) and trying to argue like children over whose better is just silly. Let's come back a year later and then all of Squeek maddening din might not be for naught.

I don't have the list, but saying "more companies" really means nothing. Quality over quantity.

I know Disney is supporting Blu-Ray, but Universal is going HD-DVD. That's all I've heard so far.

But like I said, who cares? Every company will release their movies on DVD as well, and that still has the biggest install base.

Squeek, I have to disagree with you, unfortunately. Remember that I haven't actually done any intensive research, but every commercial I've seen advertising a movie recently has touted a "coming out for Blu-Ray and DVD" release. I can't say I've seen a single commercial that mentions HD-DVD as part of the movie's release. Which is rather unfortunate; HD-DVD really is the better-looking format.
