Re: PS3 is dead (IMO)
Sales over everything.
More big names are supporting Blu-Ray. In the future, Blu-Ray will destroy HD-DVD. Regular DVD format is another story, but for people looking for hi-def movies, Blu-Ray will be for them.
HD-DVD only looks better since it's cheaper in every aspect, from a player for it to manufacturing price. Blu-Ray is technically better. The only problem is the Xbox 360's HD-DVD player is an external attachment, turning off a lot of people, and even that player is a piece of junk. If the Xbox 360 came with a version of it that sported the HD-DVD internally for an extra $100 and it wasn't crappy, then there's no doubt in my mind that HD-DVD would dominate the market.
Sony is choking themselves by assuming the market has changed. It hasn't. People look for the essentials and name brands and the price, not minor technical specs. Sony already has a name, it just needs to be affordable and mass market approachable. It isn't, though, with that huge price tag. GG Sony. Go back to basic economics/business in high school.
They had the weakest system in the 6th gen in terms of raw power. Result? Blew the competition away in sales and it sported an amazing library. Enter generation 7. Sony now sports a system rivaling the 360 in raw power (and blazing away the Wii in power). The PS3's getting creamed and the Wii, despite being the weakest piece of hardware ever and having negative connections for being a Nintendo product, could sweep the competition in no time at the rate it's going.
Consistency is approachable and approachability is lucrative. It makes so little sense to dump your market and go for a newer, smaller one when you already have the market in your hands.
