slipstrike0159, I see were you're coming from, but I think Sony will just pack-up and leave before a good group of games come out.

NForcer, I like the idea, but like Afrobean said it's better not to even have a new format.

Squeek, That's why I want a PSP! lol that's more of a joke but your right, Sony gonna lose becuz they over-powered their system.

Were did you hear that? Tekken 6 will use motion contollers in the gameplay so I dont see that happening. Tekken 5 DR might be ported but I doubt it.

I wanna know were I can hear about FF. What's Sony's chances of keeping that?

I dont think you seem to understand how beloved the Final Fantasy franchise is. They will keep being made until they run out of ideas (which seems more and more apparant) or everyone quits ESPECIALLY after how well FFXII did. If you are talking about the chances of sony vs. other gaming systems concerning FF, then besides the handheld systems and the computer, i really dont see the series going with another company even though i heard a rumor a long time ago that an FF game will be made playable on xbox360.
I personally love the series and i really wouldnt mind them keep making new ones as long as the storylines dont start getting really lame and cliched (sp). I would follow the series no matter what system it goes on cause i end up getting all the systems anyway, although it is very convenient to keep them all with sony.

Well what Im talking about is: What are the chances of it staying on PS3? I dont like RPGs at all but if FF leaves then a fanbase will follow.

Other then that this Thread is dead, unless someone has something else to add.

                Re: PS3 is dead (IMO)

I'd like to add something, so thanks for bumping it.

This is a website where they show what stores have certain items in stock the minute they go on the shelves. Fortunately, they've decided to add some code showing how easy or difficult it is to get these items.

The three top-selling items of late 2006 were: Tickle Me Elmo TMX, Sony PLAYSTATION 3, and Wii. Let's see how they're doing!

Tickle Me Elmo TMX: National Availability: 3%
Sony PLAYSTATION 3: National Availability: 75%
                Wii: National Availability: 2%

What do these numbers mean? Well, let's take a look at what they mean. And let's ignore Tickle Me Elmo from now on, because it's hard to find numbers about that.

Sony announced today that it met its goal of shipping one million units out by the end of the year.

Before I continue, let me remind you that they initially said they would sell four million by the end of the year. And now they've met their goal by shipping one million. Because we all know four million sold equals one million shipped.

Now, Sony says they shipped one million consoles. Nintendo said awhile ago that they've sold 3.19 million units. Since then, the number has come dangerously close to 4 million.

We're two months into this race now and the demand clearly shows a change in interest in the public. The PLAYSTATION 3 is 75% available. That means that three out of four retail locations have the item in stock. Further proof of that exists on the Internet by various tracking services of both online and brick-and-mortar retail stores.

The Wii is 2% available. That means that 49/50 stores you visit will not have one in stock when you go.

Now, is this Nintendo's fault for not making enough? Clearly, it isn't. They've shipped over four million units in two months, and every one that has hit a retail store has sold.

What does this mean? I won't belittle you. I'll let you figure it out for yourself.

Ah, what the heck. I've been dying to say it the entire time.

                NOBODY WANTS THE PLAYSTATION 3

Lower the price, remove the pointless format pusher, whatever it takes. OBVIOUSLY Sony has been doing something wrong with this console. Once eBay prices went below retail price, nobody wanted to scalp them anymore. Units are being returned to stores. GameStop and EBGames are handwriting signs to post on doors to try to move units as instructed by their corporate official office. Pyramids of units are sitting on the sales floors of various retail stores.

You cannot tell me people want this. Yes, I'd get one. If it were $200. Will it ever drop down to that price? No. They're already taking a $200 loss on each unit sold. They're not going to make price cuts until they can cut production costs. Microsoft has been in the race for 14 months and the official price has never dropped, and they DON'T use extremely complicated hardware. They're just now breaking even with sales, so they STILL WON'T LOWER THE PRICE.

Edit: semi-official numbers put the Wii at 4 million sold as of this post.

Squeek, I think Sony announced long before Christmas that their goal was to get 1 million "in the pipeline" by the end of the year. It was Nintendo that touted a goal of 4 million sold. Which, according to the sales figures, they seem to have made. We'll know once NPD provides the official numbers.

                      Re: PS3 is dead (IMO)

Apparently the source of the original quote failed to mention one million as being a U.S. number only. That part was in the original projection. +1 to Sony. That brings them to negative far-too-much-to-count.

Then ignore that line in my original post, because the rest of it is the meat of the argument.

It's funny, because the news of this spawned a thread with 200 replies on Joystiq and every so often, you'd see a sony fanboy go "thats shopped duh" because they couldn't believe people didn't want a PS3.

The facts are right there. If you want more, then here you go:

If you're such a Sony fan that you have to have this console, then there you go. Online distributors have many in stock for you to purchase. There are no shortages. Wii has shortages. The reasons for the shortages are different though. Sony's supply exceeded its demand. Nintendo pumps out 2 million a month and they all sell out.

PS3 is going to suffocate Sony, and kill them. It's a shame, because that's where the best FF games are. (They do have some GBA/DS games, but the best ones are for PS1, PS2.)

Like Afrobean already stated, I doubt that the PS, only one of Sony's products, is the only way they make bread.
