If there's like a 121 323 1234321 pattern of 16ths, like in PLANETZ, I usually treat it as 12ths. It's weird but it is surprisingly effective.

It breaks up the choppiness, making the patterns slightly easier to play. Do not try this on slow songs; you will get TONS of goods. Very fast songs WILL garner you loads of misses. The most effective range of BPMs for this tactic is 180-225. Also, you are NOT guaranteed to AAA the song by doing this, however it helps immensely if you find yourself futzing those patterns up.

Practice on: Shihen, PLANETZ, 20031023, Torinouta, Legend, FF3 Boss (Yes this works, people! ) etc.

What do you do when you're playing on a laptop without a num pad?

Uh, I don't use the num pad in the first place so I guess I would play like normal.

If you're having trouble AAA'ing a song, take a break from it and play something really challenging, something that you can pass but only after a decent amount of effort. The trick is to work your fingers and loosen them up, but don't do any song that'll tire them out or where you have to mash to get through it. After at least 3 songs go back and try AAA'ing again.

For example, I kept getting a good or two on my "Breaking the Common" runs the other day. I did a few 9-10 footers with a lot of constant stream and AAA'd Breaking the Common on my first try when I went back to it.

Please post back in this thread if this helps you

If you really want to get better, play harder songs. It will improve your ability to read songs as well as make you faster.

                      Practice helps too :P

Playing harder songs just get's me discouraged. My way is practice. Play levels over and over. This is how I've become so good at other games. I go rather slow, but...I find it strange that...I seem to make "jumps" in my skill. Like from skill level 34 to 40. Not slowly increasing by one level...It's only when I get really good that the "jumps" get small.
Try out Platform Racing 2 and jiggmin.com
I'm the best at that game.

Actually, if you play a level that is just above yours or something it's better. You'll learn to move faster and it's not as boring as the slower songs.

Make sure it's not TOO hard, though. If you're mindlessly mashing it's too hard
