edit: they say it'll be a category 1 storm by the time it hits CT, and IIRC a cat 1 storm isn't terribly damaging. I mean, they'll be clearing branches and debris for weeks/months but nobody's house is gonna collapse. Not even yours, tyson.

Truth

I slept through a cat. 3 hurricane once. Didn't even wake up, even though the beams were falling...then again, maybe I just sleep too heavy.

I'm just super worried about flooding. We're in a lake community and it's already high from all the rain. A lot of stuff we have is stored in the basement here for now, so if it floods we're in big trouble. I'm gonna spend the day tomorrow bringing up what I can and putting stuff in bins just in case.

But seriously, this is serious especially if you live close to an ocean or a place surrounded with a lot of trees, power lines or anything tall that can easily be taken down by strong winds etc. Seems like you guys run a huge risk of flooding so definitely take some kind of action to make sure you guys are prepared and safe

New updates. Irene thought to start drifting away from direct Jersey impact to along the coast. Hurricane will still hit Tropical storm force into south Jersey around 2-3 AM early on Sunday morning. Saturday night will consist of an ominous mix of wind and rain at 30 MPH being felt up through the Delaware valley, Philadelphia, and most all of Jersey. Early sunday morning will consist of the biggest damage was 50+ MPH gusts should tear through much if not all of Jersey and the whole of the Delaware river area. Flooding is all but guaranteed.

The last time I've checked this, the extreme area was slighty bigger. Looks like it might move a little further east. Washington-Baltimore area are in a Tropical Storm Warning. From the NC Coast up to Long Island and New England coasts are under a Hurricane Warning as of 5 AM this morning.

If it does end up being a destructive hurricane (which I hope it doesn't), I hope everyone stays safe. It's gonna be hitting my location as well but not as bad as the eastcoast states.

My stepmom didn't realize this was more than heavy rain and tried to make reservations at a fancy restaurant for tomorrow, and the guy just kinda laughed at her.
