    Re: Hurricane Irene

that exact same joke was used already for the earthquake where at least it was sort of accurate (tip: that sort of joke isn't funny when people actually died)

i mean irene wasn't devastating or anything but there was definite damage

Just got my power back on today, I expected it to be much later before LIPA would actually bother to do something.

            Re: Hurricane Irene

Just got my power back last night at 9:00. We got a foot in our basement, killing a fridge and our heater. (Maybe our hot water boiler too.) Laugh all you want about hype but this kinda thing doesn't usually happen here in Philadelphian suburbia. If these storms weren't a once-in-a-fifty-year occurring instance, I'd be laughing it off probably and live in a place with a better designed basement. But since I don't, I spent one sleepless night fighting to make sure the pumps kept working and bailing, then the next moving stuff and trying to keep our generator from breaking down.

I can't go "lawl hype" because for me the hurricane did to us what they told us, plus it killed 40 people. Its all on your luck sometimes.

It's totally situation-based. I live in southern Florida. Irene's path was supposedly going to directly hit us (as a category 1). So, as people tend to do, everyone paniced and overprepared. Then Irene drastically changed course. We got one rain storm. That was it.

So yea, I find that picture funny lol

I'm more annoyed I'm being forced to clean this shit up... Did a lot of damage to trees and damaging a couple foundations on homes. But the time spent cleaning this crap up is nowhere near how boring this storm was. Coming straight from the heart of Fort Lee, Virginia.

I don't ever remember this saying it was going to hit Florida and I followed it's path since it was over my home land (Puerto Rico). On top of that, some people got lucky with a storm or two, other places are having National Guard airlift food to designated areas.

Again, just because it didn't effect you (you, as in anyone who wasn't affected) doesn't mean this wasn't something bad. Was it catastrophic? No. But did it leave some scars for some towns and cities? Yeah. /Empathy

                          Re: Hurricane Irene

It was originally heading towards Florida. If you don't live in Florida, it's not surprising that you don't know that.

I don't think it was wrong or apathetic to laugh at that picture. That picture represents exactly what happened to us, so I naturally laughed at it. I'm certainly not laughing at what happened to other people due to the storm.
