Re: Let the shutdown begin
not sure how such a graph would be useful (and I don't even know how you'd make such a thing off the top of my head), since there are so many moving parts involved and they all have different timespans / implications. do you blame the people who suggested reasoned conclusions to certain problems, the people who created various tools irresponsibly, the people who abused those tools, or the guys who tried to clean up the resulting mess and made mistakes along the way?
the financial crisis is more of a systemic problem that doesn't translate well to looking at who controlled congress at a given point in time. It was caused by a mass combination of different pieces of legislation, home buyers, real estate agents / mortgage brokers, Wall Street, regulatory practices, sub-prime dealings, securitization, derivatives, market sentiment, the Federal Reserve, congress, interest rate pressures, etc. lots of blame to go around, and in this case it's not a false equivalence to say that both sides are at fault. everyone's at fault for the crisis in various ways.
the blame game is not particularly useful unless it's a clear-cut case of someone causing directly-attributable damage that people should be aware of so that they can work to vote such individuals out of office.Last edited by Reincarnate; 10-1-2013, 09:49 PM.Comment

The GOP, on the dawn of October 1st, immediately retreat into their ostentatious spaceships and plot a course to Reptilius 7, their homeworld. Having secured all the resources on Earth and converted the military into a lizard army, they have greenlit the colonization efforts for the hive fleet. As the earth monkeys fight for food and shelter, the glorious lizard men shall descend from the heavens and claim another world as their own. Hail R'agluash.Comment

Re: Let the shutdown begin
This so much. For every possible solution out there that works within the scope of the current system, such a solution would have to be materialized in Congress as a bill, and since it is likely that nearly all possible solutions come at the expense of "greedy sociopaths with shitloads of money", those greedy sociopaths are going to use the power of their wealth to prevent such a bill from being passed, thus ruining the possible solution.
That probably doesn't cover the scope of the demise of all possible solutions, but for any possible solution one can think of at the moment, there are probably a million reasons why it either wouldn't ever materialize or why it actually wouldn't work.AMA: http://ask.fm/benguino
