So how long would it take to build a decent deck without buying packs.

you slowly accumulate gold while playing, and once you get 150+ you can do the arena

if you get a certain amount of wins there, you'll get packs/other rewards plus the 150 gold you used to enter. if you average higher than this base number of wins, you'll have a perpetuating supply of packs

arena is heavy rng but everyone has completely randomized decks, so you won't ever be at a real disadvantage when playing

arena isn't rng as much as constructed once was (tinkmasta, pagle)

i'd say arena is more draft-rng, and less play-rng

you just need more experience & familiarity with all the cards

for example - you're playing against a shaman in arena who doesn't coin out a 2 drop on turn 1

1) he might have wolves
2) he could have a 2 drop + a lightning bolt to gain in increased tempo without overloading too much

something like that.. small knowledge of other classes & looking at your opponent's mana curve and deciding what moves he MIGHT be able to make and making safe plays regarding FUTURE moves and CURRENT board state will help greatly in arena

I lost 2 arena games in a row that were in the bag to Deathwing lmfao. The 2nd one I had already dealt with a Rag that got to shoot two fireballs too -_-

whenever i see a deathwing in arena, the final theme vs red starts playing in my head
