I guess there needs to be some sort of agreement between the site and the simauthor, since both parties possess ownership over the file. If there is a way to discuss what content could be considered removable and what is not according to the views of players in the community, then it would be easier to agree on nice terms. Since we have no info whatsoever as of now, I'd suggest we can delimit a certain percent of total songs that can be removed, or a certain choice of songs that the community agrees on. It's the same as the music and movie industry, most content submitted from a party to another is to be handled by the latter.

However, if it comes to music artists, I guess it's another issue.

Music artist is definitely a bit of a different boat to deal with.

Yeah, I agree it's selfish. You don't get to just have your file removed for no reason... if it's a song permission thing I can understand, but someone just coming in and going "remove all my files pls lol"? That's just unreasonable.

I think authors should be able to have lackluster files removed. It's better for general quality

Some sort of democratic process could be used to determine if they should be removed. Throw them at the judges maybe. This would prevent people from pulling large amounts of songs or pulling a song just to resubmit it with a minor change (although note-sync changes I would welcome, see: Blue Noah vocal notes)

The exact reasoning that was given to me by the person is "I don't want to be associated with these files, they're bad and people hate them." Claiming that people are still saying bad things to him about his files when he's not even here anymore and hasn't had anything new in game since '09

Excuse me he did actually have 2 in '10 and 1 in '11.

It depends on reasoning and length of time it's been in game.

If they are just embarrassed by mounds of mistakes and it hasn't been in game that long, sure let them remove it and fix it. Stuff like that happens.

But if they're reasoning is "people are hating on me and my files" then honestly, I'd say go ahead and remove them, but also prevent future submissions. They obviously can't handle the process at that point and shouldn't waste judge's time.

Also, after a set amount of time they shouldn't be allowed to be removed. What this amount of time is, I don't have a ballpark idea.

If people want to prevent this from happening, this shouldn't be a viewpoint, but a rule in FFR submission. If gray areas like this are left, then you might end up having to remove bunches of files in the future because you have no official rule or precedent.

For example, if a songwriter gave FFR permission to use their works several years ago, and just now decided that they wanted all of their music to be removed, would you comply? I can imagine you would, and what makes the musical property any different from the property of stepfiles in terms of whether their owners decide if you have the ability to use them anymore or not?

So I'm not quite sure how you will handle this situation regarding the step author who wants a bunch of their files removed honestly. In the future, a rule should be clearly posted in the FFR submission guidelines that any submission to FFR means that a step author is in full agreement to terms such as:

- The owner of the step chart will be alleviated of all rights as to where the file goes, or how it is handled, so long as the file itself is not altered, discredited, or used for any purpose aside from being released as an in-game FFR chart.
- Permission to use this file for it's initial purpose as a chart on FFR will be considered permanent, and removals will only occur in the sole interest of the FFR staff.

I agree with everything said here. Permission issues are another thing, but just wanting to have them removed is just, NO.

Majority of them are '09 and older. He has 3 others two from '10 and one from '11. I just think at this point it's like silly to pull those out. If they were hated so much why wait until now to try to get rid of all of them?

Having your files removed from the batch before they are released is one thing, but once they are in game, especially for a long time, it is not right to remove them. Who cares if you think the charts are bad or you dont think people like them. That statement shows you are way to sensitive over charts for a flash game which is sad. Just let it go and leave them there. If those files get removed this for sure would be one of the dumbest moves made as a site.

As has been said, I feel that if you submit your files to FFR, you are "giving" them to FFR, and FFR can decide to keep the files for as long as it wants.

I don't think this is something that public opinion should sway. The admins need to determine whether or not a file becomes intellectual property of the site once it is submitted and accepted.

If the answer is yes, it becomes site property, leave the files in game. If no, remove them. Yes, it will affect ranks, but the simfiler still has ownership. He should be able to do as he pleases.

It's really that simple.

If this is who I think it is, he should be aware that most of his files have a strong part in the history of the site and most of them aren't actually as bad as he believes they are. Is there any way you can get him into discussing some sort of arrangement?

I'm also supporting what foxfire said earlier about grey areas of rights and permissions of submitted files. We really need to delimit some of those.

Funnier thing I requested for my files to be removed from TS because I wanted to see what the reaction would be and they absolutely refuse to do so.

Welp, it seems vote4nixon(yes I said his name, who gives a fuck) is being a typical little TS ****** going off these posts. After you said they wouldnt remove your charts from TS I think thats solid reasoning why you should not remove his charts. Im not going to assume this is some TS vs FFR type drama again, but if it is related I dont know why he is so against his charts being in game and fighting for the piece of shit site TS is/not even going anywhere.

Yeah it's nothing about FFR/TS he's always complained about his files and how people viewed them. After he said that he was going to have his files removed from FFR I was like well then I guess I can ask for mine to be removed from TS and he said "no it doesn't work that way."
