Yes, you were complaining about the same thing, but you were doing so in a completely different way. From your perspective (the healthier side of the competitive environment), you're files weren't being accepted because of minute details, a few easy fixes that were bull**** to begin with, but what would be your complaint? Would it be: "I wanted 14 files in the queue, not 13" (now that would be truly whining)? How about: "I see nothing wrong with this, and as an expert stepfile author, my opinion should be recognized" (us newbies sure can't say that)? Also, what if it was: "this truly defeats any creativity as such a myopic, tight-ended judging system only promotes conformity" (legitimate, but far from what I'd say if my file got rejected)?

If you actually read what I've said, you'll notice this is my exact complaint.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I begin to realize that the sordid truth of the matter is that there is no room for newbies when it comes to stepping songs for FFR. Yes, it's a sad conclusion, but given the current system, there's not much that can be done. Really, you stepfiling pros don't want our subpar works adulterating your immaculate song pool; it's just a waste of Tass's and Shash's time (as all those files will be rejected anyways) and a very unnecessary prolonging of the already delayed updates to the song queue.

This statement is founded on the entirely fallacious grounds that people will not improve. As such an assumption is clearly in error, your argument holds little meaning.

Clearly there is no room for newbie files in the queue. However, and this is the point you seem to be missing time and time again, if a newb submits enough files, he gains experience, and is not a newb anymore! Now, his files start to get accepted! Amazing!

Wow, someone else realized that FFR is turning tremendously gay. 80% of my simfiles are accepted without having to have any changes made, and I STILL think you guys are getting too caught up in your little fun.

One reason the simfile judging gets stricter is because we, the community, have been giving stricter reviews of the files that are released. Our complaints have resulted in this crap.

I really miss the old days of FFR. Where LD did everything and everything was easy going and fun. I've been fighting to bring these days back. With myself coming into the picture, but I almost don't feel like trying anymore. Tass. Shash. To me, and many other people, your decisions on all of this simfile judging crap has turned FFR into crap. You guys are judging files, trying to let the good files in, to make FFR better, but all you are doing is just making us hate FFR.

At this rate, I don't see a great future with FFR. I highly recommend that you guys just give up and let someone else do it. I'm not even talking about letting me do it anymore. Would I still like to? Of course, but at this rate, I won't be enjoying any of it. This is one of the biggest reasons, that will lead me to leave FFR in the summer.

hi19's K8107 was already rejected, since it made Shashakiro want to "behead him with a pair of dull scissors." I've amassed a list of WIPs over the weekend, but I'm not going to reveal them lest The Iron Triad immediately try to knock them off with sims of their own.

While I have complants about some of the staff, we need to remember that it's not all the staff's fault. Look at this thread: Tass is doing what he said he would and the newbs whine that they didnt make it. Ok, I do believe some people here are over-rated (No offense, but your sims arnt always as enjoyable as Tass thinks) but most of FFR loves the songs that are in.

I know what you are saying: this is getting out of hand. I agree 105%. This is way Im only fixing Absence and sending it in. After that, it's the MixMasterLar DDR re-Edits Pack! im sure both me and you, will be back when the bullsh*t calms down

And on that note, I'll like to ask: STOP GAYING UP THE THREAD PEOPLE!! Really, got a prob? make a "ITT My File was Rejected Thread".

I don't like the collective term in "making us hate FFR." I actually enjoy the game, especially some of the newer files (EHHS as a major exception). Sure, I'm not as good as most of the people here, but it's the thought of multiplayer DDR-style gaming that excites me.

Also: a Critical Thinking forum, a forum for support with non-FFR games, and an array of odd and off-beat people make this an enjoyable place for me. Did you ever think that your files made it on the first try because they're GOOD? Also, regarding the hi19 file: If it makes Shash want to "chop his head off with scissors," in other words, how do you think the community will receive that? Not well.

Counterpoint to your "sudden gayness" of these judgments: Silence, RunnyMorning, AIM Anthem: NONE of these would have made it in under these new rules. It's files like these three that probably inspired a rule change. I'll admit, some of these slip under the radar, but for the most part the files we get now are on-beat and flow well with the music. You're definitely fighting a losing battle here.

Study current FFR songs (newer ones). By the fact that they were accepted into the game recently, you know that they are good and would be accepted today. Now, figure out why they are good.

Study the patterns. Play through the song and say to yourself, "does this pattern fit the music and flow with the music?" and if the answer to that is yes, then figure out why. Why does 428682 flow better than 486486? Why are 68246824 32nd notes more natural than 64826482? Once you know why, you can then make decisions on your patterns which will compliment the music best and flow with the music best. Sometimes an "easy" or "flowing" pattern is not always the best to go with the music, study current files to see when a more difficult pattern is sometimes more fitting. Find cases of where you hit the keys harder, which goes with a building song. Don't just be rhythmically sound with your files, manipulate patterns so that the player feels the energy of the song. If there's one thing that is important in stepfile making (at least to me), it's keeping the energy level of your steps in sync with the energy of the song. Put more jumps in when the song is at its climax, but hold out on the air when it's still building.

These are just a few of the things I think about when I make a file. It's really not rocket science. Make your file rhythmically sound, but -- I reiterate-- use the patterns to carry the energy of the song.

EDIT: Also make sure that you like to play the file. If you don't enjoy it, why will anyone else?

Don't you feel even the slightest resentment that of your 11 stepfiles that you submitted (and btw, read what I've been saying about newbies submitting files in bulk), absolutely none were accepted? Are you really that bad of a stepfile author? Of course not! Your work was probably FFR worthy, but it couldn't compete with the likes of Rebirth, hi19, etc; given their skill and proficiency with stepfiling, they have adopted a formula to their stepfiles that appeases the judges, which in turn appeases the masses.

I feel slight resentment, however it's still not certain that they've played all 11 of my stepfiles by now. If they did they would have posted an update..

I'll admit I am still a bit inexperienced. I made a Classical Insanity file about 2 weeks before FFR's current version by Shash was accepted, which wasn't too long ago. I still have that file, and it was garbage. I see that now. But honestly my files aren't bad any more, I'm fairly positive most of my files will fall under the category "Needs minor improvement" with the exception of a few that I can think of, because looking back on those files that I thought were good at the time, I now see minor errors and mistakes strewn throughout.

I'm not complaining though. And as far as "newbies" submitting files in bulk, that's just how I make files. I send every file I make as soon as I possibly can after making it, and I generally make a file or two a day.

This is the right attitude. I'm sure your files will soon progress in quality until the point at which they become queue worthy.

No, FFR IS fun. It still is, but I do not like most of the stuff they're doing. I represent hundreds of people when I say it feels like FFR is turning into a dictatorship. I don't have fun creating simfiles anymore with these so called rules and guidelines.

I've really tried to get the power to change this, and steer FFR into a better path, but I can't do anything if you all (the staff) won't let me. I know that there will be simfiles that I would reject. I wouldn't accept every single file, but I also wouldn't reject a file for one stupid reason. There's a yellow jump somewhere, or a few jacks that might be a little hard, or even this overstepped nonsense. By looking at your past actions I would expect you to reject Silver Brian's Incognito for being overstepped, yet you didn't. What's with the inconsistancy of this?

With all these rules and guidelines, I'm AMAZED a file that ****ty got through. Honestly what the ****ing hell were both of you thinking.

You've been that strict ever since {Firestorm}, and you know that.

I knew it was your exact complaint, that's why I mentioned it. I hope, though, that you noticed my statement that it would be far from what a newbie would say in response to his/her stepfile being rejected. Really, hi19, you don't need to pretend that you're being victimized by this system as much as we newbs are because you're not. Unlike us newbs, you currently have several files in the queue and are STILL HAVING FILES ACCEPTED. Unlike you, us newbs don't have any files in the queue and have NO CHANCE of them being accepted (read my response at the end of the post to your other statement before commenting to that).

Unlike some people, however, I don't spend two hours cooking up a whine post. I use those two hours to refine my simfile, ask people for reviews, edit the bad parts...
I've always done this. This is how I got to be "good" at making files, and that is how I intend to get better.

And that is the difference. Get off your ass and do something and maybe you'll improve.
You're not getting anywhere by plastering huge walls of gibberish all over this thread.
