Post from phone because my corded connection picked the worst time to be a butt.

ANYONE could have told me if spinal fluid explosion girl had a chart being queued already from stepcon

and I wouldn't have sent mine in
AJ already said it was a decision he only just made (and retracted). This came as a surprise to me, too. I submitted my file for that song, too, but under the Japanese name. Believe me, with how much we care about our files for this song, I would have said something if I knew what was happening. But I never saw emails related to the Stepcon in the inbox.

PS, so now what should be done with the Wheelpower & Go files in the batch? Should they be allowed to compete? The Stepcon reward really doesn't prohibit it how it was written. But if they need to be removed, the steppers will get some time to determine a replacement.

True, I just hated how I handled the event, and hoped that others could do it way better then I could have ever done. So you are right.
It was a bit selfish for me to say that so I do apologize. After that event I passed everything to those 'actually' in charge so I don't fuck up things even more then what I did.

things don't get done when we lock threads and say "get over it".

Things being done privately has clearly done a great job for FFR /sarcasm

It's not really your fault. There isn't blame here that can be singularly assigned to anyone. The stepcon queuing prizes were entirely unclear as to a period of time they would be valid for, but at the same time it can be agreed that after this long without any claim, that they should be forfeited if somebody else put effort into their chart and submitted it.

He hasn't, and the stepcon queuing prizes should have some sort of expiration period, becuase >5 weeks is more than enough time to prepare/fix a file and way too long to hold back all other prospective steppers.

SOMEONE just actually take the time to tell us which goddamn songs have been queued as prizes from the stepcon. Like, right now.

If neither person actually chose a song over the past month (i actually cant believe im saying that, how could you not have done so) then in my opinion holy shit you lost your chance when the batch closed
i know that wasn't explicitly stated but like holy shit, it's a month. to literally just write the title of a song in a thread.
while literally everyone else who participated in the competition is waiting for you that whole time.

If you're still going to go ahead and still queue two files (coming from AJ and rog's side i suppose it's fair, they were promised that reward), then at least LET US KNOW NOW and let people send in replacements

And holy shit please fucking fix your communication systems it's absolutely retarded something so simple could go unsaid for over a month with that many reminders.
This isn't directed at anyone in particular but the system as a whole is clearly garbage; whoever can address that needs to.

Well, if there was a file for Wheelpower & Go automatically queued (i.e. accepted), I can't see there being a legitimate reason for having two more files for it to be pending judgement since any file for Wheelpower & Go is likely to be forcedly similar enough in structure and or/difficulty due to the nature of the track; it doesn't lend itself to diverse interpretations.

And even if more than one could be acceptable, as might be more the case with Spinal Fluid, it is to a degree unfair to the new steppers because they submitted their files under the pretense that they weren't "battling" against another chart that was already 100% accepted.

The only one was mine right after the conclusion. Nobody else officially declared anything up until just now with AJ choosing (and retracting), although he had talked a little bit about improving his This Will Be The Day chart and possibly choosing it, but nothing that was an actual declaration.

I agree. I feel that it's implied if you wait this long, specifically, after the end of a batch period, that you've forfeited your desire and privilege to the free queuing.

I'm sorry, I should have made a "There's still no official word on which files have been queued from the Stepcon" post whenever it was brought up. Responding would have been common courtesy, and I didn't do that. Now I'll remember that no news is still news.

I don't really know who would make the call now on whether or not the Stepcon auto-queue rewards are still valid. ... But, yeah, if that reward interferes with others' batch submissions, those steppers should be notified and given the option to keep their file in the batch or replace it, with a grace period. (Given the points Nathan made, giving the steppers the choice sounds the most fair.)

                          Aside:

Really, the problem is that the majority of submissions come at the very end of the period, so there wouldn't be much to keep up with.

There was one Sept-October submission email in September, ten emails in the first 26 days of October, then twelve emails on the last two days and fifteen in the first three days of November.

There shouldn't even be a grace period for normal batches if everything is normal.
As far as I know there were no unforeseen issues with this past batch, so why are people sending shit in for Sept-Oct in the first 3 days of November?
If you forget, too fucking bad, you had 2 months to do it.
This thread's been stickied in the exact same place for that whole time, it's not like anyone is hiding the due dates from you or anything.

The fewer stupid grace periods and allowances that are given to people for just being forgetful, the easier the bookkeeping will be.
And clearly, the bookkeeping needs to be easier.
(obviously still give grace periods if something unforeseen happens i.e. this stepcon issue)

p.s. I'll just point out this is somewhat ironic coming from a guy who took 1 month to finish giving prizes for his custom tournament, but that's the point.
Jae (back then it was Jae) shouldn't have put up with my bullshit, and now, Silvuh shouldn't be doing so either with regards to the batch.
Lay down the law, get things moving again.

Well, I didn't have trouble keeping track of the grace period I just allowed for the September-October batch submissions ... But uh. Yeah, you are right that we don't need to be babied with grace periods when we're forgetful.

I did confer with bmah about allowing that three-day grace period (because he was the one who responded when I asked in Judge Chat). It felt odd to have such a small batch, but ... yeah, that doesn't justify letting more submissions in. I don't know. "It felt right at the time" is all I guess I can say.

This has been a bit of a transitional period in terms of who's doing what here, so ... Hm. Yeah, no excuses. I'll be more strict with deadlines, but I'll also try to give more notices in the thread about the batch in general and through PMs for files getting any privilege.
