Since we are now talking about drugs, smokking and drinking, things should get a little more interesting. With drugs, most of them are pretty retared to do. Weed isnt a bad drug and it really isnt that expensive, depending on who you know. I smoke, as everyone should know if they went back a few posts, and I dont have a problem smokking. It relaxes me, belive it or not, cause what i do is stressful, especilly now because I am preparing for Iraq. I also dip durring the day because I cant go outside all day to smoke. (Now we can talk about dipping and chewing) Also I drink with my buddies on the weekends. Back in the day before the Corps, I have drank and drove, also smokked and drove, nothing happened to me **knock on wood**. Should I have done that, probably not, but I havent done that for quite some time. The point is people do what they want to do. THAT IS THE AMERICAN WAY. If the colonist back in the 1700s just sat back and did what they were supposed to do, we wouldnt be Americans, we would be Britians. How many of us want that? No one? ok class dismissed, im going to smoke a cig right now.

Think about it, your playin chess with an old man in the park, he messes up and you use your pawn to kill his knight or something, then you can get up and shout \"Pawned your arse old man!\" and run away!

Okay, SINCE it is the AMERICAN WAY, I am going to buy a gun and open fire upon a crowd of school children. I am also going to start pushing old people down and stepping on their necks. That is some good logic.

Smoking, Drinking, and doing Drugs are all victimless crimes.
"OH, BUT WHAT ABOUT THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE DRUNK/STONED AND THEN THEY GO DRIVING AND RUN OVER CHILDREN AND PUPPIES AND STUFF ARE THEY NOT VICTIMS?"
Guns, when in the hands of irresponsible people, kill a lot of innocent people too. If you are stoned/drunk while driving, YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT WHO LACKS ALL COMMON SENSE AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO LIVE AMOUNG OTHERS.
If smoking and drink should be outlawed, then guns should be too, since they also kill people.
Everything is good...in moderation. In fact, a glass of wine a day improves your heart's health, or so I hear. Medicinal Marijuana, is another example. In *removed* one of the most posted threads is masturbation. It's good in moderation too(hey, some of that is just overboard). When you get overboard, you get the nightmares. Drunk drivers, stoners, gunners. You just have to remember, everything has a price. Yes, everything, but that's another thread.

Go right ahead and do it. When i said it is the american way, I was referring to bending and breaking laws. Actually that is more of a human nature to do that. If you want to go shoot people, I cant stop you. You want to step on old people's necks, I cant stop you. If you want to ban and outlaw smokking to get me and others to stop smokking, you cant do that because I am an adult. I tell myself what to do and if i want to smoke, its my right to choose my lifestyle. I am entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and smokking falls into happiness.
Oh and one more thing, outlaw guns? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!?! Guns are an American pasttime, just like baseball and hot apple pie. The second amendment gives us the right to have weapons. You want to ban them because of street punks who kill other street punks? Do you relize how many Americans own weapons? All across the nation, people have weapons, but they are only shooting animals, not people. It is only the few who are killing people. Also guns dont kill people, people kill people.

It's pretty sad that guns are an American Pastime. I would hope that it would just be baseball and apple pie. I guess we fail as a Nation if guns are our "pastime". That's kind of lame. Plus, all guns do is kill things, and if that is a pastime I worry....
Yes, that is why we should ban all guns so stupid people can't kill each other.
Isn't that the point of a government? To stop people from doing stupid things?
And about smoking- I love how Philip Morris has "Don't smoke if you're a teen" ads.
When guns are outlawed only the police will have guns...scary, huh? That's the best argument I've seen to keep guns in our hands. The second ammendment stuff is just crap. It's an ammendment for a reason.
What you are referring to is loose constructionism, not "the American Way". The "American Way" is a cheesy magazine that I don't like reading. We can't have an American Way because there are too many people to have everyone stand united under one firm belief. It's not possible. Loose constructionism, if I'm not mistaken, did not even originate in the United States either. I would believe that it started in England, but I'm unsure.
And Fly, I've been seeing lots of CT threads go down the drain. Do me a favor, and don't take this the wrong way, but would you please go with the forum's rules and write paragraphs and support your replies. I don't mean to make it personal to anyone, I just want a pleasurable experience in the CT forums.

We don't really need guns, at all, how many times has someone been able to get that rifle out of their closet and kill the burglar breaking into their house?
Edt: Police and military of course would still need guns.
Tank... it makes people feel safe. knowing that they have the gun in their closet allows them to sleep well at night. or in their handbag. etc. its not a matter about actually using them, just having them.
also... if you outlaw something, it only makes the problem worse. look at prohibition... look at marijuana now, or underage drinking. they don't have those problems in Europe. or not nearly as bad.
and smoking.... everyone in America today grows up knowing smoking is bad for them. if someone still chooses to smoke, LET THEM. its their decision to destroy their body. why should we even care? they have the right to spend $8 a pack (in NYC) to kill themselves.
To be stereotypical here, smoking is for old people. I don't want to smoke because I don't want to look, act, or smell old. My body is already falling apart from hockey, I don't need smoking to kill me more. My other posts relating this to economics were deleted, so I won't even bother.
The only reason Europe doesn't prohibit those things is because it is part of their culture. Why do Italians keep fewer drunks? Because from age 8 they are drinking watered wine and learn the limits of drinking. In the US drinking is shunned entirely. Youths rebel and drink more. Bam, underage drinking that leads to alcoholism later in life.
This summer I went to Europe. Everyone there smokes. Everyone. Your lungs will ache after exiting a resteraunt, even American chain smokers would cringe. The strange thing is, in England a carton of cigarettes is around 40 lb. That's around $80. They tax the living daylights out of it and it doesn't really effect the levels of smoking at all. Why do people think it will work in the US if it doesn't work in England, Italy, or Greece (the three places I visited)?
And if we did have guns outlawed, many average joes would lose guns. Only outlaws and police would have guns. And the average joe falls. Think about that. I don't own a gun, just to let you know. Nor do I smoke. They both cost way too much in the long run.
emccky, see previous post made by me to Flypie in order to understand why your post is annoying. I'm sorry for hijacking this thread, again, people. I don't want to see CT forums go down the drain, though.
