I have a really good reason why other people smoking concerns you: second-hand smoke is MORE DEADLY than smoking a cigarette; there is no filter on the smoke that comes out and goes into YOUR lungs. Smokers literally do more harm to other people than to themselves.

Durh, that is if filters worked in the first place. Humans suck too hard (lololoz) on the filters AND have the little pores covered with their lips, unlike the machines they are tested on. So the whole filtration thing is (mostly) bunk.

Smoking is horrible and disgusting, and smoking a single cigarette could possibly kill me due to a horrible cigarette allergy, but I'll be damned if I ever support government legislation to restrict people being able to kill themselves. That's just the libertarian in me coming out. Both Waco and Dallas have restrictions, and while I love not having people around me smoking, I don't condone the idea.

My grandmother died from smoking, as did many others in his family. There is NOTHING good about smoking, so I'm as baffled as you, Anti.

          yes. Yes there is. =)

I agree with the fact that smoking sucks, but I also agree that if someone wants to smoke and slowly kill his/herself I have no problem with that. One less smoker in the world.

Smoking is horrible. I smoked for close to three years, and didn't have a single reason except (forgive the cliche) my "friends" were doing it, and in my little junior high/ high school head, it looked "cool." Oh Lord....I want to go hide now.

Nowadays, though, I cannot look at someone smoking a cigarette without feeling slightly ill. Smoking has no redeeming values whatsoever and is by far the largest turn-off. I have to say, though, anti, I disagree with you on one thing. I think people who smoke are weak-minded. Yes, they could quit if they wanted to, but most of them are quite content to continue down the path of lung cancer. To me, that is weak.

I don't believe in weak-mindedness. No, I don't think it's true. Tell me, what can make a person 'weak-minded', per se? Is it genetic? Is it a disease? Is it poor parenting? You can't be diagnosed with a 'weak mind'. There is no standard for 'weak mind'. If I asked you to show me a 'weak-minded' person and explain why, you would not be able to do it. To me, the phrase 'weak-minded' is really just substituting for the word 'lazy' or 'scared'. A person CAN NOT be 'weak-minded'. If you want to do something, you do it. There IS NO physical or mental barrier stopping you. The ONLY THING that stops you is yourself.

I refuse to believe differently. No, it's not so much a 'belief'. That's a bad word. Rather, I am CONVINCED that it is not possible to be 'weak minded.' People who fight through cancer using their own willpower have convinced me of that. People who run into a burning building to save others have convinced me of that. And people who quit a physical addiction to a drug, pill or cigarette have convinced me of that. And I will not be convinced otherwise.

              +20 respect points for anti.

I just don't get it. Theie argument is 'I can't quit, I'm addicted'... So what? There's nothing stopping you from not smoking, nothing but yourself. Put forth some effort and actually do something about it. Like anti said, he broke OCD with will power which is much more serious then your typical 'I can't stop, I'm addicted'. Realise you're endangering not only yourself, but everyone around you and freaking do something about it.

Yeah, who said that obesity was a bigger epidemic than smoking? Um.... check the fucking statistics dude. Smoking kills more people in North America than anything else. Nuff said.

Being someone who's quit smoking cold turkey, even after 8 yrs of chain smoking all the time, I know what it's like to quit, and quite frankly, Anti is RIGHT. There is no excuse that you can't use your own fucking willpower to stop doing what you're used to doing all the time, just get over it, fuck.

Also, i hate these stupid cockbites who're like "Well at least smoking weed does something for you." Bullshit. It hurts your lungs just as much, and it kills your fucking brain cells, all so you can be High for an hour? Not really worth it if you ask me. Mind you, i do smoke the odd doobie now and then, but it, by no means, makes me think its okay, i still believe it is completely stupid, and i tell myself i'm stupid for doing it.

The thing is, marijuana DOES help certain people. It has been proven to help people out who go through chemothreapy, and relieves the pressure in the eye.

The problem with using the "I'm additced" excuse is that it promotes the idea that more and more people are not responsible for their actions, and this spreads to other problem areas. (And yes, will lead to the downfall of our civilization as we know it.)

Yeah, there's a big list of issues, attitudes and natural disasters just waiting to bring us down, and smoking is one of them. In fact, it's kind of like a big race to see which one will do it first.

I'm all for Anti's treatment plan, although legally hospitals aren't constitutionally allowed to do that, that's what would have to be done if anyone were at all serious about it. Unfortunately, all the people who could do stuff make millions of dollars off tobacco every year. Fk'd system, the only thing we can do is persuade everyone that its the dumbest thing alive.

I was not saying that people who claim to be addicted are weak-minded....I was saying that there are some people who think that smoking is the way to go, and have no want or desire to quit. Look at my grandfather. He doesn't say "I am addicted" he says "I don't want to quit, I like smoking, get away from me." To me, that is weak. Weak-minded, weak sauce, =) whatever....it is weak all the way around.
