Very true -- the people who did best in the Math major were those who lived and breathed it outside of the classroom in a variety of ways. If you're just doing a Math major just to do it, you better have a deathwish.

Cue eftee. By the time I start graduate school I'll already be at least 12000 CAD in debt, discounting any clever profit I might acquire. So far I could have learned everything without university, given the proper motivators.

Well, just going to a college never helped anyone
It's what you do as a person with the college name stamped on your resume backing you up in terms of credentials :O

A lot of undergrad education is very similar across a spectrum of college tiers, so I'm told. I know a kid at Duke who's taking the same physics and calc as I am and we're practically neck and neck in pace.
It's hard to verify anything with a quarter-year experience as a college freshman though.

I tried a decent amount in high school and I did pretty well, better than I had hoped even. But my work/community/extracurriculars/SAT weren't up to stuff for some of the higher end colleges I applied to, so I feel like I really should have invested some time into building up a good high school backing & took the time to apply for some scholarships.

I'm paying so much to be here at CMU... I almost regret not choosing my state college and spending a fraction. Don't get me wrong though: it's pricey as **** but I'm enjoying it a lot so far.

Of course CMU and Duke are going to have similar intro-level courses, first off -- they're both great schools. Intro-level courses are intro for a reason.

But really, what makes a school hard is the fact that your peers are tougher to compete against. At a top school, you have to work harder just to meet the average scores for exams. It means you have you more deeply understand the material.

Also, for one thing, quit your bitching. That kind of debt is very manageable and easy to pay off in a short amount of time.

You guys should elaborate on what you mean by "trying a decent amount" in high school because sometimes I get 4-5 hours of homework a day and I always push to get it all done, and "decent" to me would only be around 2-3 hours.

And no I am not complaining, I even stated I get everything finished, I just don't see what you guys mean by "working harder".

If it's taking you 4-5 hours, work faster and get it done in 2-3.

Problem is, if I knew how to do that, that time range would be possible. But it's not.

                        Re: Current Seniors

It also depends on the day. Sometimes I get 1 hours worth, sometimes I do 5.

Longest one is usually algebra. It can range anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour and a half depending on how much I'm making a mess on my paper trying to figure out what's going on in a certain problem.

Chemistry is relatively light, although projects and studying may take an hour or two.

History usually takes around an hour with reading and taking notes as well as a worksheet.

Spanish, really depends on the assignment. It can be a ridiculous time gap from 15 minutes to an hour lmfao.

Last week I spent around 5 hours average on homework which included putting finishing touches to my chemistry newspaper (which took a lot of time, researching and trying to make it neat and ask my teacher about what should be on there).

Another note: I like to get ahead. What's required on one day may exceed another hour if I want to make a lighter load the next day.

Ok so just get better at algebra. Algebra is easycakes.

Also, get homework done during class as you take notes.

That's actually a cool idea but I've noticed my teachers really dislike it when I'm doing two subjects at one time. That is, they find it disrespectful when I'm doing work in other classes when they're giving lectures (90% of the time boring), and I'm sometimes also busy just trying to write down annotations lmao.

And the funny thing is, algebra is my lowest grade but last year math was one of my highest grades. History is my strongest subject so far.

I know this and I find it very stupid of them.

I mean as long as students get good grades why care..
