I strongly disagree about the "don't try in highschool".

If you go into mathematics, you want to overkill on EVERYTHING MATH from Grade 1 through Grade 12...

Learn it all as solidly as possible, and review it all the time. It will REALLY help you at University. (I would especially suggest learning how to do Limit Differentiation as best you can.)

I'm a senior. I don't have plans on a specific college at the moment but I'm prospecting a few options, and assessing availability at the places around here. I'm currently looking into either New Brunswick Community College (Moncton campus) or Oulton College, depending on what I want.

algebra is what you need. geometry is nothing, and pre-calc you need down, but its really no big deal if you don't have it. there are tudors and you can always get a one on one with your professor

and back to rubix's post. that or you can get a 4.0 in college and transfer to where ever you want.
That's absolutely untrue, lol. Admissions systems don't work that way past a certain point.

It all depends on what you're going to do. I do not need to try as hard as some other people because I'm relying on something that a vast majority of people don't have, Music talent (not saying all of you don't, but high school population-wise). I'm not saying I'm not going to try and get good grades, but I'm not going to stress the hair off of my head over a B and not getting an A.

I'm thinking we're from very different parts of the US :/

Calculus BC -> Statistics -> Multivar is usually what high schoolers take here..

First year into the Pharmacy Program at TSU (Texas Southern University). Will finish in the next 4 years.

PS: During your high school year, you have to either do really well in sports and get into a good college from that or you can do it the old fashion way and work your butt off during your 4 years of high school (especially your junior and senior year) getting good grades so you can get into a good college.

Depends on the school. Being a recruited athlete doesn't mean you can let grades slide.

I'm aware of that as well seeing that there's a rule in high school sports that states: "No pass, no play."

I should probably say that if you're a decently smart athlete who is really good at a certain sport, you can get into a good college with some kind of scholarship.

I definitely agree that there is a degree of trying you need in high school to get to a good college. Sure, some universities will accept you if you do extremely well in a community college, however, Ivy League schools have less than a .05% chance of accepting transfers from community colleges into their schools.

Also, considering I'm a math major, I DEFINITELY am so glad that I took AP Calc tests, etc. I do agree, however, that if you're doing something like history where math is not needed, you don't really need to bother as much.

As for the recruited athletes, it really does depend on the school, as well as how important you are to the school's team. There is a certain GPA you have to maintain to stay on the team and as a student, but I definitely can't say there isn't favoritism for those who are in sports. They get many chances.

I'm only taking math as a minor but it's still extremely hard rofl
