A question for all you FFRers - are you mainly optimist or pessimist? I'm mostly pessimist but I also do have *some* optimism, just not that much to be arrogant and form delusional thoughts.

        Re: Current Seniors

Dossar, just free up time where you can. Do you spend an hour sleeping in? Use that hour for something useful. Do you ride the train anywhere? Crank out some problems from your problem sets while you do. Waiting for class to begin? Get some reading done or work on something.

One of the most useful things you'll learn in college is time management. I had multiple majors and so I always tried to fit things in wherever I could. Also, consider how much time I spent playing FFR/SM/Kongregate and how much free time I had to go hang out with friends -- on top of academics and activities. It's all very much possible -- you just have to make a map of your routine and look for spaces that you're not using efficiently. When you first plot it out, it's almost embarrassing how much free time there is that you're not just seeing.

Optimize where you can, and force yourself to stick to a routine.

          Re: Current Seniors

I've actually considered wanting to wake up early on the weekends because I wind up getting way too much sleep when I wake up at 9:00 AM when I could wake up earlier and do other things with the required sleep I actually need. What happens is that I take afternoon naps and then sleep around 1:20 AM and wake up at 5:20 AM on school days (usually) before my backup alarms (I haven't been woken up by them yet), so that gives me a time frame to get ahead in my schoolwork.

My weekend schedules are a total mess. Like really bad. I wake up at 9:00 AM when I should be waking up at like 7:00 AM. >_o

Good idea. I'm going to get up at 8:30 tomorrow and do homework until 10.

            :]

            Goodnight.

(BY THE WAY!!! Does anyone here have a strong background in Discreet Mathematics that would be able to help me with Predicates and Quantifiers? They are the most f*cked up **** ever... :[)

Things would be a lot easier if I woke up at 7:00 AM on the weekends and then spent 2 hours on whatever needs to be done until 9:00 AM rather than actually wake up at 9:00 AM and feel groggy accomplishing nothing. But that rarely happens, I usually sleep through my alarms. -_-

Sleep at 11, wake up at 5.

                      That's unrealistic.

If I sleep at 11, I'll wake up at a time like 3 or 4 if it's on a school day, not joking about this. I go to sleep at 1:30 AM on a school day and wake up at 5:10-5:25 AM before my alarms that are set at 5:45. (This is how much sleep I actually NEED - it gives me a chance to get ahead as well)

For some reason my body just goes into complete shutdown on the weekends and alarms don't wake me up.

                        Uh

I did four hours per night in college because I had a ****-ton of classes (7 or so/sem avg)

There is no reason you need to be cranking out 4/night during high school. If you're sleeping that little, you should not only be done with your homework by the time school gets out for the day, but you should also be slightly ahead for the following day's curriculum. Seriously, 4/night is practically a ticket to get all your **** done.

But that is almost exactly what I did, too. 4/night and then slightly more on the weekends to catch up. Only now, here in NY, has my sleep schedule shifted to something more human (6/night -- maybe 8 on weekends).

Also keep in mind I take 2-3 hour naps after school so I'm actually getting something like 6-7 hours total.

And yes, it is a ticket for me to get all my work done the day it's due, lol. It's a lot better than getting 8-9 hours, because which would you want: Do what you want and get ahead, or get an extra hour or two of sleep and wake up pissed off the next day? This happens on the weekends but not nearly as much on schooldays.

The other approach is to actually try to understand what you're learning as you're being lectured.

This is different from just blindly taking notes and studying them later. You'll find that as things become more intuitive to you, notes aren't always required. It'll also make homework a lot easier. It also helps to look at problems in different ways until they click for you. A large part of saving time is making things intuitive.

My point is that there are always huge gaps that can be optimized.

                                Might as well...

Currently a 5th year senior, completing my last quarter of classes. I will still have one more quarter after this, but the only class I still need to take is an internship class so I just need to get a job or an internship and I'm set.

I'm also looking into grad school, but I'm thinking that the price is just too much right now and that I should get a few years working before attempting that.
