I received this in an e-mail. Being the proud patriot that I am, I was angered and disgusted to see such a disgraceful display. How could these students be so dull-witted to insult the United States when they are living in this very country?

03/28 : Student protest in Whittier area students from Pioneer, California and Whittier high schools walked out of classes to protest the proposed federal immigration bill March 27, 2006. The protestors put up the Mexican flag over the American flag flying upside down at Montebello High.


I was a passive supporter of the immigration bills before I saw this. Now, I'm enraged and firmly support them. The bills were created to make life better for all Americans, including the immigrants already here, whether legal or illegal. It protects us and our citizens. And they protest fairness and progressive action through insult? Anybody as angry as I am?

The flag is often used as a symbol of the United States as a country during protests. When people are dissatisfied, they do generally offensive things to the flag to show what they feel about the country.

If you don't like this, then you don't like America. It's things like this that make our country truly worth living in. In many other countries people would be punished greatly for offending the flag in such a way.

Seriously, they shouldn't even care about the bill so much unless they were illegal immigrants themselves.

I'm pretty neutral on this, too. There are good reasons for them to stay, good reasons for them to leave. Them disrespecting a silly flag isn't going to change my opinion. And they don't truly mean it, either--if they hated our country so much, they'd leave already. They're just expressing their disapproval of the bill.

I really don't care about protests or immigrants anymore. In my view, Americans suck and Mexicans suck. Americans are stuck up assholes who think that they have the best country in the world and everyone else should bow down. Mexicans are uneducated 3rd world people and a drain on a strained welfare system.

I was listening to bob and tom this morning, and they were talking about nascar interviews and having a stock answer to questions. THey then got into using stock answers for other subjects.

Example: Student: "Why does so and so atom reactive with other so and so atom

Teacher using stock answer: well "student", that's science!

The point isn't about it being legal or illegal; the point is that it's damn disgraceful and insulting. Bringing the flag into this is neither necessary nor helpful and it only serves to enrage the other side of the issue. And considering that this act was likely done in support of people who don't deserve to be here in the first place, that pisses me off.

This thread is funny... because it's purpose is funny.

As a Canadian... nobody would *probably* do this to my flag, but even if they did, I'd just sit back and take it. Afterall, if we elected a Conservative government, we might as well deserve it. I'd take a more understanding approach - if someone is going to step on my patriotism, I'd rather do the research and ask myself "why?" than sit around and get angry. Practicing apothy is what is necessary.

If they are going to use your symbol of freedom and democracy as a tool for prooving their point, then it's best to try to understand why they would do such a thing, and then you can improve your nation and government through effective measures: you know how they think. You know how they feel. You now know what's wrong... and you've obtained a way of helping the system improve through this information.
