Quarry seems to fall under the category of "too good to play with." Ironmonger proved once again to be really strong, as did expand. Tight game, but the copper king, Wayward Vagabond, was able to prevail at the end, gaining a whopping 15 copper through the course of the game.

FFR is a pretty good place somehow.

quarry's ok early game because it outlives its usefulness soon enough, when you need to start buying victory cards to win. i think most of them got thrown away by the end because they're as good as a copper for that, though i kept my one quarry

i kept buying fortresses for the synergy with expand that i never got to use, as well as generating an action and card draw, but i probably used it to buy too much money for my money engine instead of getting victory points, and buying colonies in something like 4/5 of the last turns wasn't enough to win. probably should have switched over using the counts to just grab duchies

e: funny thing about tonight is i don't think anyone won off ending the game, it was basically just mercy killing

You search your hand for an action. You see two possibilities. You could play Jack of All Trades to trash the Estate, but a certain piece of artwork catches your eye. It's a man, bow in hand, prepared to strike. Noble Brigand is the name scrawled on the card. Do you build up your own empire and play efficiently, or do you sacrifice the only bit of humanity you have left?
You play Noble Brigand, soul torn asunder. Your discard pile weeps.

I still maintain that militia-like cards are more annoying than noble brigand

                  Or thief

Crossroads -> Library made for some pretty disgusting turns. Oracle remained untouched and many golds were sacrificed to become provinces with Remodel. Two platinums also died in the process, remodeled into colonies. Theme of this game is +3 actions from Crossroads.

                            Re: Dominion Thread

So it was my first time playing with Crossroads, Oracle, Merchant, Trader, Spice Merchant, and Nomad Camp (I have only the 1st edition base game, and don't have Hinterlands). I really like this setup because there are a lot of ways to start building your deck, and the three of us sure started differently -- the hydra and I each had a 4-3 start, and inDheart got what I would call a pointless 5-2 (because I think almost any 4 here is a better start; it'd be great to pull off the second-turn-5 from Nomad Camp). Despite these very different starts, the scores were sure close at the end (we each had 4 colonies, so it came down to other points). I ended it with a Remodel of platinum into colony, but the hydra would've clinched it with a colony gain the turn prior, and had I prolonged the game by getting province/duchy instead, I'm sure inD would've taken it home (Festival + Library is always scary to play against).

My deck started out a lot slower than either of the others -- there were a few colonies gone when I was still drowning in estates. I think the tide finally turned after I trashed all but one of my copper and had a bunch of Remodel/gold combos (what I was going for from the start), along with turn after turn of decent Crossroads hits. The only actions I used were Crossroads, Village (I think just once for my final turn), Spice Merchant, Remodel, and Library.

The danger with going heavy Crossroads is getting Britney'd, but as long as your shit money is gone and you've got enough green floating around, then even if you pick up four victory cards and a gold (platinum) you can still get a Village (Festival, probably) to chain with Crossroads and Remodel; throw in Library and you're just begging to shuffle your deck again and again. I could see Village + Merchant comprising a ridiculous money deck though, since Trader sets you up nicely for a Merchant orgy and then you can get rid of it.

And a final thought: taking out Remodel and putting in Replace would make this a tremendous shit-show (and then Celery should play so I can spread the curse love).

e: did I really write this much aarrghh my post-graduate life is showing
