Facebook troll bait attempt #1: post this picture of Carl Weathers from Predator, attract Kony supporters who have no idea what's going on but just like the video, watch them get butthurt when you explain "how awesome this man is and how nobody should hate him", laugh.
It's tough to take a side against something that seems so positive on the surface without people judging you =/
Not sure if it was mentioned before...
Compensation of Leaders | % of Compensation relative to amount of money made by IC | Title
$88,241 | 0.99% | Ben Keesey - CEO
$89,669 | 1.00% | Jason Russell - Co-Founder/Filmmaker
$84,377 | 0.94% | Laren Poole - Co-Founder/Filmmaker
Isn't it a bit idk... "scummy" or something ><;;... to pocket over eighty grand from humanitarian efforts? Adjusting for the things these guys don't have to pay for that the rest of us do (food, shelter, transportation, etc.), these guys are pretty much getting rich.
I'm not saying buy an "action kit" but giving a shit about world wide events is not a bad thing.
Also that Kony 2012 thing looks too much like some sort of presidential campaign and I recommend not hanging any of those retarded posters up until someone with braincells makes a new poster.
Has anyone else noticed that the Kony 2012 stuff on facebook has died down? Only a handful of friends are still posting about the issue, rest of my news feed is just the average everyday status update, 9gag repost, and youtube links to funny videos.
ffs, if rubix gave argued to go jump off a bridge, half of you would. Nevermind the fact that the only new information he brings up doesn't have links to say where he got it from.
Also, I do happen to have a life outside of FFR. I will sometimes visit multiple times a day, sometimes once a week. I'm sorry to disappoint you that I haven't visited in what, 24 hours? But just in case, if I do stop posting itt after this, don't take it as a sign that I agree; take it as a sign that I'm sick of repeating myself and banging my head against a brick wall.
The only thing rein has correct about their budget is about the travel cost. They spent like 60% of their funds on 'program', which for some reason he, and others, believes to mean they spent it on themselves. As to being secretive, I don't know how you can complain about that when you have access to financial documents from them. And in the newsletter that they have, they give as much of a detailed breakdown as ANY non-profit organization I've ever seen.
"All they're doing is financing the UA... which is guilty of much of the same shit Kony is. "
Except for the stealing kids and forcing them to become militia, and forcing women into lives of prostitution.
Tell me, if a police officer in the US rapes someone, do you blame the entire police force?
Or what if it were the social norm in the US for a man to have sex with whomever he wants. Would you blame the military for that? Would you believe the entire military is corrupt due to that?
Furthermore, they are not just funding the Ugandan military. How about you read what IC says they do instead of only reading what others say they do?
"This breeds a dangerous mentality -- millions now want Kony killed. Arming the Ugandan military to capture Kony will have horrible long-term consequences. Back in the 70's and 80's, we armed Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, etc... look at what happened."
Right, but sending US or Canadian or French, etc, troops, isn't arming Ugandan military, and is also something that IC is quite adamant about.
Also, from what an earlier link said, a recent link, the Ugandan military is actually doing very poorly.
I will acknowledge that this is the only fear that I can see in this program, but I do think it highly unlikely. A comparison to US which armed Hussein, this is a much smaller scale, and it will still be even if this thing takes off like wildfire, (and cynics have clearly made sure it won't) simply because the number of people involved in the Ugandan military isn't likely to increase just because they have more guns.
Furthermore, it's not been made clear to me that the Ugandan military would begin a new, just as terrible reign of terror, or even behave worse/negatively affect more people than they are right now, even if it somehow did magically become huge.
I'm sick of hearing 'you don't understand all the politics and problems in the region', yet no one has tried to really explain the politics...not that this has anything to do with stopping Kony unless stopping him would make the political situation worse, to which no one has said it would.
"Long story short, this is an extreme abuse of donations and taking advantage of non-profit status to receive tax exemptions."
Because flying first class means that they don't care about the cause and don't support it, even if that actually is the case. (You never actually backed that statement up with where you got that from, just a nebulous 'if you look deeply enough')
What if something like 6 million of their funds came from somewhere like George Clooney, who'se featured in the video and a clear supporter? Would it still be wrong, underhanded, and dirty for them to fly first class, when it's all being paid for by him?
"The video also tries to take credit for Obama sending 100 advisors to Uganda, which is false (it was a continuation of an anti-LRA campaign that started during the Bush era):
"Indeed, the US military has been instrumental in trying to hunt down Kony for years now. According to Foreign Affairs, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) has been on several missions to kill or capture Kony. Each mission was a failure for several reasons." http://communities.washingtontimes.c...-kony-justice/"
Welcome to page 1 and 2 ITT. Glad you bother to read what other people post.
If you read what I said closely, you'll find that I commend the group for getting acknowledged by Obama.
"Another lie: Kony commands 30k child troops -- it's more like a few thousand at best. Still unacceptable, but it's misleading to take things out of context. http://www.irinnews.org/InDepthMain....ReportId=72446"
From 2007. Which is funny, because that's what everyone keeps saying IC info is at, even though it's their video which bring up events in Uganda from 5 years ago. Which, might I add, is made clear in the video.
Oh but wait, the video didn't really explain the whole situation from when it began, what, 20 years ago? That makes it bad, apparently, by some people's standards.
"Also, the LRA has been disbanded and Kony has been on the run since like 2005 or so when he was indicted for war crimes by the ICC. No reason to throw away your money to support this organization to drum up support for a cause needed ~7 years ago. Kony and the LRA ran away to Sudan and other countries, but Yoweri Museveni (the corrupt dictator of Uganda) unnecessarily prodded and poked at the LRA, provoking more attacks. In conclusion, all of the leaders in Central Africa are corrupt and screwed up. Not just Kony. He's one piece of the problem; not the entire problem."
Which is it, the LRA is disbanded or it's still retaliating to being 'poked'?
Anyways, to send in troops to try and overhaul legitimate countries and force people to follow an american way of life in central africa is not what the movement's about. If it were, then Aldentron's comparison to invading north korea would have more validity and I'd probably be against it.
Also I'm sure you know what 'unnecessary' poking and prodding is. You say it as if the leader of Uganda shouldn't care about the issue anymore because the LRA no longer is in Uganda. Which is also, might I add, what the blogger is also saying. It's not just Americans who can hold the idea of 'out of sight, out of mind'.
People upset because Uganda is being misrepresented, and who are paradoxically upset that there's western help and at the same time that the western help isn't good enough, is really a separate issue that people keep conflating with the whole idea of stopping Kony. It's getting really annoying.
Hell, even if the entire world thought it was wrong for 'outsiders' to step in and stop this army, doesn't change the fact that there are thousands of children who do want the outside help. Being prideful and wanting to end something yourself even though what you're doing is inadequate is, well, dumb and prideful.
Haha, cept my bf's on vacation and he doesn't want to watch me play it so it spoils it for him. He's also monopolized the xbox all day (fine because he's on vacation.)
Also people's reactions to this clearly has me all riled up. I hope you haters of this are happy, because all the misinformation, cynicism and distrust of IC is looking to be very effective in stopping this thing.
