Re: Why are people hanging on to 3.9/3.95?
The only reason I even have SM3.9 still is on my Linux laptop where its the only version that sound works properly with
Besides that SM5 all the way, its a much better version than 3.9Trilogy : Gideon
Yeah I still play DJMAX Trilogy. Occasionally. When I'm bored. Or just feel like 7k charts.Comment

Used sm-ssc until quite recently, but it's pretty similar to sm5. I like both better than the older verisons.
What's wrong with the editor? I like it better than 3.9/3.95.Comment

Re: Why are people hanging on to 3.9/3.95?
My comp causes SM5 to crash before it even starts up. So the most recent I use was scc, and even then it was a pain to get the configuration settings done properly. Personally, sm5 is rubbish (I mean come oj, wouldn't you say that if it crashes before even starting up?) I stick to 3.9 because it is the most stable version of SM that I have played throughout the 6 years that I have been playing SM. I understand that the devs are improving sm each and every time, but for stability's sake, 3.9 all the way...Comment

Re: Why are people hanging on to 3.9/3.95?
I'm just used to 3.9 and I don't feel I need more than that for now. Also, I'm currently making some xmod files in 3.9. If I made xmod files in 5.0, new features such as warps would not be compatable for users with older versions of SM. Even though xmod effects are features rather than bugs in 5.0, accessibility is reduced for those trying to play it in 3.9/3.95 or other versions.Comment

This is part of it. If people moved on, there wouldn't be a need to make files compatible for the older versions.I'm just used to 3.9 and I don't feel I need more than that for now. Re: Why are people hanging on to 3.9/3.95?
True. I just haven't seen such a movement yet, so the userbase largely remains in 3.9/3.95 still and I'm not inclined to do warps and stuff until people flock over. Making xmod files in 3.9 is not easy.Comment

Re: Why are people hanging on to 3.9/3.95?
seems to be the consensus pretty much. that's fine, but why not be bold and daring and give the new version a whirl? you can even keep both versions handy. the burden on your hard drive can even be kept to a minimum thx to the advent of song directory linkage. (appdata > roaming > sm5 > save > Preferences.ini > AdditionalSongFolders)
it's a two-way street, right? as in, neg bpm tricks from 3.9x don't work on 5.0? I tried playing ap's Tranzport a while ago. crashed my sm5 I think. it's too bad that such xmod excitement has to be catered to one crowd or the other. to be honest though, I think a lot of the same people who would be willing to switch from their precious cmods (lol) are the same people who made the jump to sm5.Also, I'm currently making some xmod files in 3.9. ok that's a total conjecture actually. I wonder if there are any usage statistics out there? maybe a poll here on FFR concerning 3.9x vs 5 users would be insightful.
edit: I CAN USE SM5 NOW HOORAY

Re: Why are people hanging on to 3.9/3.95?
I'm still gonna use dream to step but honestly it's just not as neat looking as any 3.95 theme I've ever used. I don't remember what it was when I play using it but something drove me to say I didn't like it, but can't remember what it was.Comment

Re: Why are people hanging on to 3.9/3.95?
actually, sm 3.9 and up neg bpm tricks work on sm5. I tried tranzport in sm5a2 and it worked fine.
sm5 also recognizes bpms over 1million so trying to do combo holds doesn't work anymore (but it doesn't matter because there's an option for combo holds anyways)

Re: Why are people hanging on to 3.9/3.95?
I'm not against SM5 by any means. It just never was on my priority list. If I downloaded it, I would indeed keep both versions.
Nope, it goes one way: negative bpm tricks made in 3.9 works in 5.0, but not the other way around. That's why I mentioned accessibility earlier.Comment
