SM5 is almost better than 3.9 in every way, I'll give it that. I mean, it'd be amazing if people start using that more. I REALLY like it so far.

There's only 2 problems I don't like about it though.

1) Editor is a little more inconvenient to use BUT it's actually better because we have MORE possibilities to do MORE things that 3.9 can't do. So in turn, I'm better with it. But the Step and Song timing may get annoying to switch back and forth, but luckily Alpha 2 fixed it so it remembers the last timing you edited.

2) Warps. This is just one issue I have MOSTLY because of pad files. Reason is, warps don't convert BACKWARDS into OpenITG, which uses negative BPMs instead. And since SM5 doesn't have this option (yet), I still have to use OpenITG to fix this unfortunately :< but ah well.

looks like we are in the same boat
also, more of a minor complaint: I play SM5 and SSC in a 16:9 ratio. Most simfile backgrounds are made in 4:3. SSC just stretches the background regardless of whether or not it keeps the relative dimensions (I can't remember the actual phrase for this whoops) intact. When the song ends you can see the background sort of "snap" back into its original relative dimensions. SM5 resizes the background BUT doesn't change the relative dimensions, leaving two ugly black bars on the sides. I'm gonna guess this would also happen for videos (sup anime files).

Everything about sm5 is better except that the judging feels different. Which is the single most important factor in the game. I don't play anyway, but that's why I couldn't even start to use sm5.

Edit: Was about to go try it again, but I can't figure out how to link external song folders.

Edit2: Still can't figure that out, also can't figure out how to add speedmods because clearly adding them to speedmod.txt doesn't work for some reason. The theme is awful and the noteskin is painful to look at.

Other then minor personal judgement issues that prevent me from playing like I used to the game is really smooth and runs great and is probably programmed really well.

The judging is the same. Your issue is probably with global offset like I said before.

Eww, that is gross. Why would they make the game install stuff to the appdata and registry. That kind of bothers me that it is no longer portable.

Also the exact time frame of the judging might be the same, but it feels different for many reasons other than that. Everything such as the theme, noteskin, aspect ratio and others. Every tiny change affects your feel for the game and when you played 3.9 for 10 years it is almost too hard to adjust.

I actually talked about this on IRC. I figured that some people end up attached to 3.9 because it was the only stable version and now that there's a new one that actually is better people are going to say "but... but..."

People still use XP for the same reason. (Also because Vista and 7 suck > NEVER CHANGING)

Just played through some songs and pressed all the notes to the beat of the music and got all great/goods and misses and failed the song halfway through.

There is something seriously wrong with this. Changing the global sync doesn't seem to affect anything. It's like the arrow receptors are just in the wrong place.

Try getting used to it? Or you can set your default mods to XX% centered (I don't know how it is in 3.9, haven't played it in 3 years) to try to get it in the right place (Dafeualt mods is in preferences.ini). Only problem is unless you implement it in the options menu accessing said menu and going to play a song will remove the mod.

EDIT: Doesn't seem to work. I guess you have to put it in the options menu first. How you do that is something I'm not sure about, but I'll look around a bit and see.

timing should pretty much be universal across all builds. you shouldnt have to get use to the timing of one or another
