Re: We Can't Keep This Up.

This is the internet, there are flaming trolls everywhere.

FFR is like a home to me too of course there is a ton of great people on this site and the game is really fun to improve on. To me that's all I see, it's so easy to ignore the trolls but alot of people just like the drama. Everyone who has a problem with the retards on the site and loves ffr should just focus on the nice aspects of the site

So basically, a "community" based on revenge instead of reason

      This is absolutely ridiculous.

Re: We Can't Keep This Up.

No corner of the internet is safe. There will always be users who troll and flame, and there always were those kinds of people here on FFR, maybe you guys just don't ****ing remember. This is not a new pandemic, that is for sure.

I have never had a problem with anyone on this website. Never. You know why? Because I don't behave like a retard. And when I did behave like one, I was always put in my place. If you're having such a hard time with this community, maybe the problem is YOU and YOU need to modify your behavior.

Singling out The Garbage Bin as a source of the problem is "ludicrous" as you say because the proposed non-existence of a subforum will not get RID of the people that everyone is crying about. The people that perpetrate these intolerable acts of trolling and flaming are still going to be here and instead of keeping most of the BS confined to TGB, it's going to be sprayed all over the more public forums. So go ahead, remove TGB. See how that changes things.

And don't misunderstand me. I am not saying we should all embrace the trolling and flaming and integrate it into our community, but I do want you guys to realize it's inescapable. Your Internet Utopia where trolling and flaming don't exist will never materialize, so keep dreaming. Consider as well the foundation that this community is built upon: competition. At the core, there will always be drama, there will always be people cheating, lying and defaming others because it's ****ing human nature to be better than the next person. Go to the moon if you don't want to deal with this stuff.

              +2 for the thought

              -1 for follow through

Shit went downhill a looong time ago buddy. No one changed a thing then, doesn't seem any more likely now.
Also, foilman is very right. There is no such thing as a perfect society. You guys just need a system that promotes productivity to the site, and shuns "ass-hattery" (also, some people should learn to take a joke or two and not take everything on the internet as srz bzns).

On the plus side, I'm moving from Oregon to Miami within the year.
Got a job offer and a place to stay. I'm excited, so I'm just sharing the news everywhere.

                You're dumb.

Based off the join date of most all the users who've posted i have to ask, what do most of any of you guys even know about the "old days". The forum will never be the way it used to be. The golden days will never be re lived. 90% of the userbase of ffr have the shittiest of online personas and there's nothing anyone can do about it. I still come to this website for who knows why, but I don't complain about it openly like this I just take it for what it is now and deal with it. I'm all about the implementation of change for the greater good, but the fact of the matter is is that way too many of you, the majority of you, suck.

About a year ago from my perspective. May have been happening before then, but I wasn't really active (or even a registered member) before then.

Re: We Can't Keep This Up.

One thing I request from a lot of people here is to stop mulling about the past and how bad it currently is. I've seen a lot of pessimistic attitudes that quite frankly doesn't help lighten the atmosphere. These attitudes are represented on the forums, people's random thoughts on profiles, and on chats and IMs.

If all you're going to do is to reminisce about a faded past and/or keep mentioning how much the site is going "downhill", well of course you're going to make the mood all the more depressing. I'm not saying the recent antics on this site were anywhere near passable, but your mindset is certainly not heading in the right direction as well. When everyone does this, it becomes cumulative and suddenly it sounds like your entire experience was summarized within the past week, with all the good experiences completely disregarded. Unrepresentative and overdramatic.

People need a big dose of optimism. When shit goes down, make it better. Discuss solutions. Don't let your face remain a frown. Even if FFR is your second home.

A sense of urgency to improve the site is one thing; overthinking the problems that weigh down on you is another and gets you into trouble.

I don't think closing the garbage bin is any kind of answer or solution. Any mess would just spill over elsewhere, as was already stated. Only solution is stricter moderation if it's really becoming a problem. I don't really see what anything else would accomplish.

Also, take any time period of anywhere and people will say essentially "The good old days were better". In those "good old days"? -- those people would be saying their good old days were better, and so forth.

This is actually a very good site and forum as far as community-type sites go. It could be better but it could be worse.

It's one thing to be deeply involved in an online community you love, but it's another to be so vested as to refuse the inevitability of change and disagreement.
Clashing opinions is a natural and positive thing, especially on the internet, but only when handled properly. Drama starts when people get too invested in their own point of view.

I'm guilty of this- something I am trying to be mindful of- and certainly others are too.
A healthy dose of introspection would be a good starting point for many.

That's exactly why I made this thread. We need to change our mindset for the better, but in a new way, not the way things were.

True, there will always be trolls on the internet, but you know what, it's not the hardest thing to do to stuff them out. And if we could get a good flow of new members coming in, there will be a hell of a lot less of them proportionately.

My goal isn't too eliminate trolls entirely. That's like trying to completely eliminate an entire race; it just doesn't happen. But we can outnumber and start get rid of enough of them so they are no longer the majority.

Bmah's got the idea as well. Just looking at this place as run-down area that has 0% chance of survival is not helping it's case at all, because there is in-fact, ways we can get this site truly thriving again. Once we find those ideas and ways, hopefully people will start to see that, and look a bit more positively.
