I think you misinterpreted my post, so I'll try phrasing it differently. I am not advocating throwing all standards of quality out the window, but there needs to be a line drawn for what is fair game for judges and what isn't.

If people play the files and enjoy them why does it matter if they go with the guidelines?

Because the entire foundation of judging is based on objective quality, not subjective song preferences.

No, there is too little objective about simfiles to properly judge them.
Even if there was, all files would look the same.

A judge has his/her taste. Good thing we have several judges with different tastes huh?

So, what exactly is the point of a judging system, then? I disagree about all files looking the same. There are still multiple ways to step a song, what matters is that the methodology used in stepping them is consistent.

That's exactly why judges are and have to be subjective.
To be a bit more clear, methodology alone will only get you so far. In other words, not very.

Where is the line drawn? This is the fundamental question I am getting at, and searching for an answer for. You can use "subjective" as a justification for nearly everything to either rate a file highly or downright reject it.

One emphasizes on rhythm, one emphasizes on intensity, one emphasizes on it being playable index, one emphasizes on patterns.

All of these (and not limited by these) can make a file that can be an accepted file on FFR.
The fact is that it represents the music in a way for the community to enjoy.
Judges work together to figure out if that's true.

Yes, I agree on the subjective factors you described in terms of judging files subjectively, but it still doesn't account for the edge factors such as what a particular judge enjoys for music, or what they think the community would enjoy.

There really isn't much more I can argue, and I can see where you are coming from, but in my opinion judging should be kept as objective (in my perception of objective) as possible. Hopefully what I'm getting at is more understood though, even though it most likely won't impact how judging is performed.

This might as well be my last post on this, I feel that I explained my position thoroughly enough.

To a certain extent, a judge must be subjective, because if you start having too many objective rules you start to include obviously useless file as acceptable. To explain that, I refer to my two criteria for judging: 1) What did the author intend, and 2) How well did they execute their intentions. The majority of scoring comes from the second, more objective bubble, but you have to include the first otherwise somebody could submit a chart with the same bleep bloop 16th run for 40 minutes with the same stream copied over and over and it would be objectively acceptable. At the same time, a judge can't just reject a song because they don't like it, but there still has to be the ability to make the judgment that a song is unacceptable for the game. I'm might give a song that intrigues me a little benefit of the doubt on certain things over a boring, generic piece of crap song, but I'm not going to reject that song over its music unless the chart fails to execute the stepartist's intentions (assuming the stepartist isn't trolling ).

For example, I submitted a song (once under Tass, once under the new system) that was 4 seconds long and about vaginas that got rejected heartily because it was deemed not worthy of being in the game. The chart/song are a complete joke, and so I'm fine with the judges' decision on that one. Subjectivity allows you to filter out troll submissions, and while some troll submissions are worthwhile, the judges are there to decide that. I'm not familiar with the song that sparked this debate, so I'm assuming it's pretty trolly judging by the fFr DrAmAz going on because of it

While it might not be everybody's cup of tea, it certainly isn't a troll submission. There is musical merits to it, even if it is a bit out there to some.
