Songs Of The Week (Mar 21, 2011)
Today is a special release; to make up for the lack of new songs, we’re giving you SIX new songs, up from the usual four.
Four Blocks Madness (woker-X) – (G) Rock; (D) 10; (L) 1:46;
Grocery Escape Plan (dore & bluguerilla) – (G) Secret [18,000]; (D) 11; (L) 1:19;
I Remember When (psychoangel691 & TC_Halogen) – (G) Hip-Hop; (D) 7; (L) 3:15;
Ice Disk (ElectricWerewolf) – (G) Arcade; (D) 10; (L) 2:15
Snow (Silvuh) – (G) Classical; (D) 8; (L) 2:09;
Tamashii (Dark_Chrysalis) – (G) Rock; (D) 10; (L) 1:47;
Tetris is a really fun game, but banging your head to the music of it is just so much more fun. The first of our six releases comes from Chilean VGM band (that’s video game metal, kiddies) ThePlasmas, who are making their very first appearance on FFR with their rock rendition of the popular tetris theme, Four Blocks Madness. This version of Tetris is a lot faster and more heavy than most, with constant crashing cymbals, a driving percussion line, and a melody that definitely can haul. This is a pretty tough chart, pushing out some triples at a pretty decent pace in some sections, and loading out jumps everywhere else. Chart is by woker-X, his fourth in game now. Take a peek into the Rock genre for this one; arcade doesn’t quite have enough room for this kind of Tetris.
Many of you have undoubtedly run into a situation where you just want to get in and out of a supermarket. For those of you who haven’t, Psychostick has done a very good job portraying the urgency, impatience, and RAGE involved when trying to make sure you get everything needed. Grocery Escape Plan is…well, it is what it says it is. It’s a plan to get everything and get the hell out, using the rock style that Psychostick is well known for. Those of you who are great at fast and repeated taps will thoroughly enjoy it, but it’s very tiring on the wrists, and those of you anti-jack players will not take to it well. Chart is by dore, and you will also find this one in the Secret genre. In order to play it, you’re going to need 18,000 credits in your bank.
I am ecstatic to introduce another brand new artist to FFR; her name, is Lisa Lavie. She is very well known on YouTube for covering very famous artists with her sensational voice — many of her videos have skyrocketed past a one million views, with her own original song “Angel” nearing seven million and rising every day. She has traveled all around the world, recently adding a trip to Qatar to perform at one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants. Now, she makes her debut on FFR with I Remember When, a great RnB song delving into the feelings and memories of happiness, enticement, desire, and even seduction. It also features a decently fast rap verse, pushing the skills of you moderate keysmashers to the test. This chart is a collaborative effort between psychoangel691 and TC_Halogen, and you can find the song in our slowly building Hip-Hop genre.
Ice Disk, a simple but clean DNB song is also being released today. It is by rhythm gaming extraordinare, Kil, who is also responsible for very well known songs like the Gaussian Blur series. The chart is fairly difficult, featuring a lot of 16th streaming and some occasional jump-streaming. Our adept keysmashers should easily handle this song with ease, and some of you rising stars might be able to keep up with this as well. If you’re up for playing this one, you’ll need to jump into the Arcade genre to find it. Thank ElectricWerewolf for the chart on the way out.
Torley Wong is back with another great piano song that introduces another element of nature: Snow. Those of you familiar with the chart for Rain might get some nightmares trying to achieve a score on this. With many grace notes, tricky patterns, heavy accents, great pitch relevance, pseudo-triples, and back-breaking sync work means that it can only be by one stepartist — FFR’s one and only Silvuh. Like many other piano songs, you’ll find this one in the Classical genre.
Finally, we conclude this day of new songs with an AKHT song, Tamashii. Unlike the BB series, Tamashii holds a slower pace of 144 BPM. However, like other AKHT songs, this song holds a very steady pace and doesn’t let up for very long. Constant 16th streaming with occasional jump interruptions make this a tricky chart, but far from impossible to score on. Those of you old school players will enjoy this break from perfect relevancy and layering, an objective that Dark_Chrysalis had when making this chart. Tamashii will be sitting in the Rock genre.

Songs Of The Week (Mar 1, 2011)
Hate to interrupt your daily keysmashing routine, but there’s four new songs for you guys to play.
Badinerie by J.S. Bach, stepped by Bluearrowll — (G) Classical; (D) 8; (L) 1:18;
Champion Freeverse by Tonedeff, stepped by who_cares973 — (G) Hip-Hop; (D) 9; (L) 2:12;
Fly away -mix del matador-, stepped by bmah — (G) Purchased [1,500]; (D) 9; (L) 2:11;
Jamais Deux, stepped by DossarLX ODI — (G) Secret [55,000]; (D) 12; (L) 1:47;
Didn’t get enough of a piano fix last week with who_cares973′s chart for Waltz in the Rain? Maybe a dosage of true classical music can settle you addicts down. Badinerie, by J.S. Bach, has entered FFR’s classical genre today, coming with a somewhat tricky chart that pushes 32nd note bursts out at 126 BPM, enough to challenge the mid-level keysmashers clawing their way to the top. Chart is by Bluearrowll, his first in game, congratulations to him! Those of you hunting for the chart’s location will find it in the Classical genre.
How many of you remember the last time Tonedeff has had a song in game? If you’ve been clearing out your scores for the old legacy songs, you might have run into Shag at some point. Tonedeff makes a new apperance on FFR with one of our newest releases, Champion Freeverse. If you’re tired of dealing with the same old monotonous songs with perfect quantization, you’ll enjoy this colorfest of rap lyrics. Chart is by who_cares973, and it’s not quite his first, but we can congratulate him as well. You’ll find this in the Hip-Hop genre.
How many of you guys own a copy of DDR Supernova? For all of you who do, you might recognize this song. The original Fly Away made its debut in the popular home version of DDR, and this remix now makes it onto FFR with a fairly technical chart, featuring some mini-jacks and interesting jump patterns to strung together. This release is stepped by bmah, and you’ll find it in the purchased genre, for a small price of 1,500 credits.
Kkrusty fans are going to get a challenge this time around with this new release. Jamais Deux is our newest addition to the Secret genre, and unlike our other three releases, this chart boasts some massive difficulty, throwing some 240 BPM 16th note patterns with some jumps thrown in the mix as well. Good luck scoring well on this file, you guys are gonna need it. Chart is by DossarLX ODI. In order to play it, you’re going to need 55,000 credits in your bank.
Back to your keysmashing, all of you.

Songs Of The Week (Feb 22, 2011)
Hey guys, four more songs are out today. Here are the details and a little something about each of them.
2008 by she, stepped by kommisar — (G) Secret; (D) 9; (L) 2:22;
Chase You Down, stepped by Silvuh — (G) Rock; (D) 7; (L) 3:50;
Floating Through Time, stepped by who_cares973 — (G) Classical; (D) 5; (L) 1:45;
R/\IN, stepped by _.Spitfire._ & bluguerrilla — (G) Dance2; (D) 10; (L) 1:52;
Responible for songs Nebula, Session, Yeah Yeah Beats, and Streets, she returns to FFR with 2008. 2008 is an energetic song that pumps out a great deal of synthesized melodies and percussion. At a mere 127 BPM, you would figure that this song is quite simple, but don’t be fooled — it’s fairly aggressive in layering, featuring a great deal of streams with jumps in them. Chart is by big-name simfile artist, kommisar. You’ll find this song in the Secret genre, and it comes with a fairly small price. Can you guess what it is?
For you up and coming keysmashers who are struggling to keep up with the newer songs, here’s one that might be a little easier for you all; that is, if you’re focused enough to handle the longest of our four releases. Chase You Down, by Making April, is a very emotional song about the angst of being separated from their significant other, and reminiscing about the times they had together. Chart is by Silvuh — and it’s a lot of chart, pushing just under four minutes of play time. You can find this in the Rock genre.
Our next song is a Flashbulb song. Sorry for all of you upper level players who were expecting some intense drum n’ bass though, as this is one of Flashbulbs calmer songs. Floating Through Time is very calm, and well — plays as the song says. You’ll be floating along in this chart very gently with some 16th runs in the 60-65 BPM area; this is a great chart for all of the newer players still trying to get their bearings on streams. Chart is by who_cares973. Take a peek in the Classical genre and you’ll find it.
Hook up your headphones and take a ride down the t+pazolite train with the last of our releases, R/\IN. t+pazolite takes the typical gabbertastic bass-drum and a powerful synth to makes your ears experience the power that only a few intense instruments can deliver. At least you’ll have time to brace yourself, as the song has a great 25 second intro. Stepchart is by _.Spitfire_. and bluguerrilla, and you can find this one in Dance2 as well.
Enjoy yourselves!

Engine Support Update
For a while on Velocity’s engine we have added code that makes it impossible to get the location of the raw level files. Velocity has recently added this support into the legacy engine as well. Some time tomorrow, I will be moving the level files and hiding them so that it is no longer possible to download the raw level files. This will cause all legacy engine versions older than the latest release to no longer work, so if you have downloaded a standalone, please make sure it is the latest version.
Please note that anyone found hosting or distributing the raw level files for this site will be permanently banned.
Cheers,
aperson
Songs Of The Week (Feb 14, 2011) + Skill tokens
Four new songs have been added to the game for the masses to enjoy. Here are the songs.
Miraiya by MIROMU STARDUST, stepped by bmah — (G) Dance2, (D) 10, (L) 2:33
Over The Ocean by Yamajet, stepped by omgitznpv — (G) Purchased [2,400], (D) 11, (L) 2:06
Staring at my Spaceship, stepped by kommisar — (G) Secret [120,000], (D) 11, (L) 4:33
Waltz in the Rain, stepped by who_cares973 — (G) Classic, (D) 9, (L) 1:45
Miraiya by MIROMU STARDUST, the first of our four releases today, is stepped by one of FFR’s prolific simfile artists, bmah. The song starts fairly quiet, almost as if it’s trying to gently wake you up, but changes to a more steady beat after a 15 second wait. It’s got an almost cute sound to it that will make you want to bob your head back and forth, but don’t bob your head too long — this stepchart is technical, featuring a lot of runs with jumps interrupting every beat (or two), and mini-jacks to keep even the higher level players busy. This song can be found in the Dance2 genre of the game.
omg, it’z npv! A new chart by him! (wow, that was incredibly corny.) *ahem* Anyway, our next release is Over the Ocean, by Yamajet. As usual, Yamajet brings those high pitched popcorn synths and fuses them in with some great percussive rhythms to form an awesome high energy song that many can enjoy. The chart represents this very well, with some heavy accenting and dense patterns, all in good fun. However, all good things come with a price, and this is no exception. You’ll have to give up 2,400 of your hard earned credits to play this one.
Those of you FFR and Stepmania hybrid players might recognize this song from a mile away, and many consider it to be one of the most fun files for its time. Staring at my Spaceship, by Virt, is the longest of our four releases, boasting a length of over four and a half minutes. Virt does an excellent job conveying multiple song intensities, beginning with very relaxed melodies and a calm drum line and building into great drum features combined with moving melodies. Then, everything just lets loose, and the chiptunes start running rampant with speedy melodies that just don’t stop. Once you hit the quad almost two minutes through the song, you’re up for a really fun time. Everyone can thank Kommisar for this package of technicality and fun. However, if you want to play this once in a lifetime simfile, you’re going to have to pay up — big time. You’ll need at least 120,000 credits to have this simfile in your repetoire of secret files.
Finally, we tone things down a bit with the shortest of our four releases, a song by one of our resident musicians, KgZ. Waltz in the Rain is a calm composition that has a fairly speedy touch. The stepchart has a lot of 16th note runs at 115 BPM, with the occasional jump interuption for piano chords (and triples for even louder ones) and, just like the song, is fairly constant. Well known for stepping just about anything, who_cares973 does a very nice job portraying the piano’s accenting and an even better job with representing the pitch changes. The song can be found in the classic genre of the game.
Also, we have 3 new Skill tokens, they are pretty challenging to unlock.

[Marisa Stole the Precious Thing] – Get 214 combo and 214 or more misses on Kire Kire Mayoi to unlock Marisa Stole the Precious Thing.
The requirement contains 214 combo and 214 misses because it’s Valentine Day.
This song has a sweet background movie and cool steps, so I think you can enjoy this one.
[St. Scarhand] – AAA Reality to unlock St. Scarhand.
Hardest skill token in the game, since you have to AAA an FGO song.
The song is well-known, and there’re pretty tough jumpstreams and jacks in steps.
[party 4u -holy nite mix-] - FC party 4u -holy nite mix- v3 and party 4u -holy nite mix- v2 with 0 boos in a row (in that order) to unlock party 4u -holy nite mix-.
This version of Party 4u was on the game long time ago, but removed from the game when AIM Anthem was released.. back in early 2004.
Now this legacy file is revived as a skill token, all notes in the song are blue and it has 0 framers (aka glitched notes). This one also has background movie, the same one with Party 4u v2′s.
Happy FFRing!

Menu Music Competition – Last Day!
Don’t forget, tonight at midnight server time is the deadline for our Menu Music Competition! If you’ve been working on a track, it’s time to polish it up and send it our way
Engine Updates
Well, it’s been a long time coming for sure.
The Ocelot over here thought it would be funny to take time out of his typically interesting life to update the older Legacy engine for you . A few features (and fixes) from Velocity’s engine have been ported over, for those of you unfortunate enough to have lag issues on it:
- Replay manager: those of you using the old engine can now choose which replays you want to keep (rather than none at all)
- Favorites genre: now, you can save all of your favorite songs into a genre entirely controllable by you!
- Global frame offset: are songs off-sync for you? If so, you can adjust the offset of your engine to compensate (positive numbers make the song later, negative numbers make the song earlier)
- In-game timestamp: you now no longer need to show the FFR forums, or front page, or profile, or…whatever, to prove the date and time that you achieved that amazing Vertex Beta vROFL AAA. Just screen capture your results screen and you’ll have all the proof you need.
- AAA/FC icons have been recoded to properly display your AAAs and FCs (note that unrecorded AAAs added manually will display as a Full Combo).
Enjoy all of the fixes!

EDIT 2:
Legacy engine Favorites and Dropmenu songs fixed.
EDIT 3:
Multiplayer ranks should no longer display as undefined.

Songs Of The Week (Feb 8, 2011)
Hey guys! It’s that time again.
Today’s new songs are all stepped by familiar people, so let’s give you a rundown of all of them.
Here’s the list of today’s songs. (G): Genre, (D): Difficulty, (L): Length
C7 Funk by Tomo Fujita, Stepped by Xandertrax – (G) Funk, (D) 9, (L) 1:43
Sunny Funny Chiny by t+pazolite, Stepped by _.Spitfire._ – (G) Dance2, (D) 10, (L) 2:26
Voodoo People by atomiku, Stepped by megamon88 – (G) Secret (Req: 4,500 credits), (D) 9, (L) 1:47
Yellow Lasers by MC Frontalot, Stepped by dore – (G) Hip-Hop, (D) 5, (L) 2:49
Details of today’s songs.
C7 Funk, by Tomo Fujita, is a fairly short, but groovy funk routine; clocking in at a minute and forty-three seconds, I would surely hope that no one complains about length for this file. For those of you who have just gone through your Legacy genres recently, you might notice that this sounds very similar to Funk in G at some points, only with a much faster melody. Chart is by Xandertrax, and has some pretty interesting (but short) burst patterns. You can find this particular song in the Funk genre (and rightly so).
Sunny Funny Chiny is a t+pazolite song that oddly enough, sounds very light and lacks that ear-blasting bass dru–spoke too soon. This is the second longest of the four songs, at 2:26 (that’s not too bad, come on guys). Chart is stepped by ._Spitfire_., and has some fairly intense patterns with some long 270 BPM 8th note jump/tap alternations. This song will be sitting in the Dance2 genre for all of you upper-level players.
Voodoo People, by atomiku, combines a slow and heavy rock feel with a fast-paced and driving bassline to bump up the difficulty. It is also a short song, sitting at a minute and forty-seven seconds. Stepchart is by megamon88. Because of repeated mini-jacks at 174 BPM, this song is also challenging. You can find this song in the Secret genre, but only if you’re holding 4,500 credits (or more). Happy key-smashing!
Yellow Lasers is a song by hip-hop artist MC Frontalot. The longest of our four releases, at 2:49, is a fairly easy chart, featuring tons of double meanings within a mouthful of lyrics. The chart for this song, stepped by Dore, is a fairly light chart, following lyrical syllables and the occasional outside instruments. You can find this song in the Hip Hop genre.
Enjoy!

Faster Better Stronger
Howdy!
While this should not affect your ability to play the game or browse the site in any way, we are experimenting this weekend with a multitude of different web servers to see just how much we can accelerate page loads for everyone. Let us know if you find any problem pages and we will address them asap. Personally I have seen an average improvement of around 0.4 seconds. Do things feel any faster for you?
Cheers,
Synthlight
