Songs Of The Week (Feb 14, 2011) + Skill tokens

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on February 14th, 2011

Four new songs have been added to the game for the masses to enjoy. Here are the songs.

Miraiya by MIROMU STARDUST, stepped by bmah — (G) Dance2, (D) 10, (L) 2:33
Over The Ocean by Yamajet, stepped by omgitznpv — (G) Purchased [2,400], (D) 11, (L) 2:06
Staring at my Spaceship, stepped by kommisar — (G) Secret [120,000], (D) 11, (L) 4:33
Waltz in the Rain, stepped by who_cares973 — (G) Classic, (D) 9, (L) 1:45

Miraiya by MIROMU STARDUST, the first of our four releases today, is stepped by one of FFR’s prolific simfile artists, bmah. The song starts fairly quiet, almost as if it’s trying to gently wake you up, but changes to a more steady beat after a 15 second wait. It’s got an almost cute sound to it that will make you want to bob your head back and forth, but don’t bob your head too long — this stepchart is technical, featuring a lot of runs with jumps interrupting every beat (or two), and mini-jacks to keep even the higher level players busy. This song can be found in the Dance2 genre of the game.

omg, it’z npv! A new chart by him! (wow, that was incredibly corny.) *ahem* Anyway, our next release is Over the Ocean, by Yamajet. As usual, Yamajet brings those high pitched popcorn synths and fuses them in with some great percussive rhythms to form an awesome high energy song that many can enjoy. The chart represents this very well, with some heavy accenting and dense patterns, all in good fun. However, all good things come with a price, and this is no exception. You’ll have to give up 2,400 of your hard earned credits to play this one.

Those of you FFR and Stepmania hybrid players might recognize this song from a mile away, and many consider it to be one of the most fun files for its time. Staring at my Spaceship, by Virt, is the longest of our four releases, boasting a length of over four and a half minutes. Virt does an excellent job conveying multiple song intensities, beginning with very relaxed melodies and a calm drum line and building into great drum features combined with moving melodies. Then, everything just lets loose, and the chiptunes start running rampant with speedy melodies that just don’t stop. Once you hit the quad almost two minutes through the song, you’re up for a really fun time. Everyone can thank Kommisar for this package of technicality and fun. However, if you want to play this once in a lifetime simfile, you’re going to have to pay up — big time. You’ll need at least 120,000 credits to have this simfile in your repetoire of secret files.

Finally, we tone things down a bit with the shortest of our four releases, a song by one of our resident musicians, KgZ. Waltz in the Rain is a calm composition that has a fairly speedy touch. The stepchart has a lot of 16th note runs at 115 BPM, with the occasional jump interuption for piano chords (and triples for even louder ones) and, just like the song, is fairly constant. Well known for stepping just about anything, who_cares973 does a very nice job portraying the piano’s accenting and an even better job with representing the pitch changes. The song can be found in the classic genre of the game.

Also, we have 3 new Skill tokens, they are pretty challenging to unlock.

[Marisa Stole the Precious Thing] – Get 214 combo and 214 or more misses on Kire Kire Mayoi to unlock Marisa Stole the Precious Thing.

The requirement contains 214 combo and 214 misses because it’s Valentine Day.
This song has a sweet background movie and cool steps, so I think you can enjoy this one.

[St. Scarhand] – AAA Reality to unlock St. Scarhand.

Hardest skill token in the game, since you have to AAA an FGO song.
The song is well-known, and there’re pretty tough jumpstreams and jacks in steps.

[party 4u -holy nite mix-] - FC party 4u -holy nite mix- v3 and party 4u -holy nite mix- v2 with 0 boos in a row (in that order) to unlock party 4u -holy nite mix-.

This version of Party 4u was on the game long time ago, but removed from the game when AIM Anthem was released.. back in early 2004.
Now this legacy file is revived as a skill token, all notes in the song are blue and it has 0 framers (aka glitched notes). This one also has background movie, the same one with Party 4u v2′s.

Happy FFRing!

    :)

  2. Lmfao! GL to those AAA’ing Reality. :P

  3. omg ive waited so fucking long to see p4u v1

  4. Once again, fantastic read.

  5. cool… release an UNREAL track which 99.9% of players will never get to play, wasted file imo.

  6. Keep ‘em coming!… Just lower the prices a bit for us poor players, hehu :P

  7. Hahaha I like how there’s only one score on St. Scarhand so far.

  8. @Halo: pretty much all of the 4 songs you’ve listed have the wrong song lengths lmao

  9. Once upon a time I had enough credits to unlock 30 “Staring at my Spaceship”s but I do not anymore, oh well. =P

Tried my hands at the tokens.. No luck yet. I will get Marisa, and may get party 4u, but AAAing Reality is a long, long time away.

  10. omfg YES, Marisa! Best song here by leaps.

  11. 2nd to unlock Scarhand, 5th to unlock party. hehe

  12. @Halo: pretty much all of the 4 songs you’ve listed have the wrong song lengths lmao

I just go to the last step of the song using DDream. JX can give the proper lengths next time, haha. The lengths shouldn’t be off by more than a second or two, anyway.

  13. omg SamS !_!

  14. i lol’ed at party4u. sick SamS kommi

  15. Oh god.
Why MStPT? That song sucks. Or is way overplayed in general.
If you want valentine’s you could’ve went for Alice -> Dere :V

  16. Yay more Virt! Boo only have 53k tokens T^T
    Yay more Touhou!

  17. Awwww maaannnnnnnnnnnn, AAA Reality to play St. Scarhand (on FFR)? :( That’s probably going to take like another year. :/

  18. just what we needed skill tokens that over half the site has already ragequit on reading the requirements

  19. seeing that FFR stepped St. Scarhand…..I’m coming out of retirement LMAO

  20. Hope you guys enjoy the fixes jx and myself made to scarhand :D

  21. 8th to AAA and unlock st scarhand :)

  22. Wow, deleted my comment? Coul.
Look, I’m just saying you guys need to make some skill tokens that more than half the community will be able to actually unlock, I mean get an AAA on Reality? Just how many people are going to unlock that? 2% of this giant community?

  23. @Chaos: that is the fricken point. People have to stop having the expectation that the majority of users should easily acquire all of the tokens. Challenges should come in a wide degree of difficulties.

  24. im likeing the waltz in the rain gives me pratice on those 3 arrows dont get much pratice on those without spamming my keys to lv 12 songs :X

  25. omg i wanna see the stepfile of scar hand

  26. @ChaosUnown i totally agree im getting actually kind of pissed that all the latest skill tokens are for ppl who sit on the computer playing ffr literally 24/7 and have the patience to unlock these

  27. just great ppl downvote my comments when they’re the truth

  28. @ bmah: “Wide range of difficulties”
Yeah because the last 4 token unlock criteria’s are clearly in a WIDE RANGE of difficulties.

  29. I’m referring to token unlocks as a whole, not just this past little while. The last three tokens just released ARE difficult. I’m sure more tokens will be released in the future, both easy and hard. A lot of games have their own goals with easy to ridiculous objectives. A racing game for instance might have you beating the clock on a track at a ridiculous lap time in order to get the gold medal (as opposed to silver and bronze). Put it into perspective. FFR has its own goals that range from easy to near impossible as well. Perhaps really hard tokens get more publicity than easier ones and we tend to focus more on these, but novices are not disregarded either. Don’t feel bad if you can’t get all of the tokens. You can go ahead and downvote me, but that’s the name of the game.

  30. ChaosUnown: Stop trolling/spamming.

If you don’t like the tokens/songs of this time, you don’t even need to try. Difficult tokens like these are needed, and it doesn’t mean all future tokens will be as hard as these ones.

  31. I think these are good token requirements. I got Marisa without much problem – THAT is what I consider a fun and somewhat challenging req.

party 4u is probably challenging, but I haven’t really tried to get it get. It’s challenging, but it’s a really good, simple, almost retro unlock – don’t get boos.

St. Scarhand is for those with such a high skill level, it’s only fair they get a token to TRULY designate them as some of the best players. (Oni) really doesn’t do that as well anymore.

I look forward to more fun token unlocks – PLEASE do something like the Nanairopanda unlock – THAT was very fun to unlock.

  32. I’m actually rerally happy now! we have Otaku for masters only AAA and now we have St. Scarhand for GURU AAA. cant w8 to be able to do it one day!

  33. yay for touhou…can’t quite get the 214 misses, got 212 twice -_-

  34. Bring on more tokens! D: It’d be pretty awesome if we could have like… 200 skill tokens, maybe? :3 Just a thought. (More like a dream.)
