something i really liked and never mention was the ability for long shots
I was impressed on how long the camera would be running before it was cut somewhere else. It really brings you into the movie with less cuts

      Re: Cloverfield

I loved the cleverness of the cinematography in this movie. Most people would just be like oh he was running with it, but the person they either got to play Hud was a very highly trained cinematographer or they just had a cameraman with them and put Hud's voice there. As real looking and just plain old simple as they seemed to be, for me they seemed very diligently planned out.

As for the movie itself. I loved it. The movie was SO original. It did what the Blair Witch Project tried to, but unlike that movie it was AMAZING. I really would like to see it again, but I'll have to wait a while and probably get high before I go. To make the experience just as good as it was the first time

        Re: Cloverfield

70% of the movie was TJ Miller, who plays Hud, with the camera. The other 30% was an actual cameraman, but TJ Miller would stand behind him, put his hands on the camera man's shoulders to guide him at Hud height.

          Re: Cloverfield

I just finished it about 10 minutes ago. ( You got to love the internet )

This didn't look interesting to me when I first saw the previews.
I like to go with the hype and ratings, so I finally watched it.

I heard that many people threw up in the theater because of 'motion sickness'
Whether or not this was true, I don't know.
What I do know is, that I had no problems watching it except for a slight annoyance when I couldn't see anything clearly.

Now, the beginning really annoyed me.
I didn't understand what the hell was going on and quite frankly, it dragged on for too long.
Whether or not that actually built up my suspense, I couldn't tell you.

After the monster -ahem- appeared, I couldn't stop yelling, "HOLY S***, HOLY S***!!!"
It was pretty intense after that.

I have been reading about what the monster may be.
After watching a few clips on YouTube that have been slowed down, I can't help to say:
          What the hell is it?

Overall, it was a well done movie.
Although the shakiness of the camera annoyed me a bit, it still made it seem realistic.

          SPOILER:

The ending left me in a state of wait... what happened? Was it killed? Did they die? I felt as if it ended too soon.
This is the shortest movie I have seen, actually.
I was really into it when it ended.

          / SPOILER

          Overall, I'd give it a 7 or a 7.5/10.

On a side note: The clip I saw didn't show the entire credits. So it is interesting to find out there about what was said at the end.
I love when there is extra footage/sounds at the ending of credits.
Most people just get up and leave and they miss things.

          On a another side note:
I was first introduced to J.J Abrams when I became obsessed with Lost.
I have been reading other replies and I am inclined to watch more of his work.

              Re: Cloverfield

I thought the movie was awesome. Much more intense than I AM LEGEND and gave a very realistic, psychotic feel to the whole movement and environment of the film.

The part that was really crazy was when you pan over to Milena (a female character in the film) and she starts bleeding out of her various orifices and sockets and they pull her into the "bite" room, then you just see a blood-splatter. I was like "wtf just happened?!"

The beginning was definitely mellow as I saw it at 11 40 pm and my gf and I were sleepy and fading in the theater. As soon as the explosions of the insane pieces of rubble and buildings started crashing into things, we were then wide-awake throughout.

I'd rate this an 8/8.5 out of 10

                Re: Cloverfield

I didn't like it at all. I didn't really like the plot line (there hardly was one), I got motion sickness (had to close my eyes for the second half of the movie because I felt really sick), and it just wasn't something I'd want to see again.

                        No.

                        The director has said, "No."

The manga makes it look like the mother is in Japan, a captive of Tagruato.

The beginning monster and the end monster are the same monster. It couldn't "barely" fit Hud into its mouth. That's why HALF of Hud fell out - the mouth was too big. It was the same monster every time you saw it. According to the director.

@ sarahxjane, the story doesn't end with the movie. In fact, a lot of it has been pressed onto the internet, with the movie's marketing team setting up mock company websites and a fake Slusho! website. All of these are connected together, and it's amazingly fun to dive deeper and deeper into the origins of the monster. The marketing team was brilliant for not only leaving clues and details behind in the movie, it's also out on the internet for everyone to do a scavenger hunt for.
                              He's got a point, there's even a 4-part manga prequel to Cloverfield.

That's not the monster, it's a fan-made conception of what he thought the monster looked like.

                                Really? That picture?

And there is no incongruity in size. The size remains constant throughout the movie. It's shot from a whole bunch of different angles while it is doing different things. When it's about to eat Hud, that's when it is the LARGEST. I don't know why people are getting confused. The size is consistant.
