    Sad but true

I didnt know where this could go, and I didnt write it, but it seemed important to me anyway so yeah, sorry if I posted it in the wrong place

I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian.

I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman.

I am the sister who holds her gay brother tight through the painful, tear-filled nights.

We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time.

I am the man who died alone in the hospital because they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room.

I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I
    wish they could adopt me.

I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again.

I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high school. It was simply too much to bear.

We are the couple who had the realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men.

I am the person who never knows which bathroom I should use if I want to avoid getting the management called on me.

I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because I now live with another woman.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.

I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.

I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that.

I am the man who died when the paramedics stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual.

I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I didnt have to always deal with society hating me.

I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don't believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.

I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.

    RE: Sad but true

Alright, here's my thoughts on the entire topic.

I'm not for it, but I'm not against it. Yet I'm not by any means "undecided." To me, it's one of two things: Either a matter of choice or a matter of how you were born. In either case, it's not up to me to be making judgments about other people.

Unfortunately, the post you've made tends to gear towards the aspect of bias towards people who have homosexual orientations. To be perfectly honest, I don't think it's really accurate outside a small faction of the population. Of course, people are going to shy away a little when meeting someone who's gay or lesbian...That's just the way people react to things they're not used to.

It's not my place to judge the actions of other people, so I'm not going to try. The best I can do is to continue to tell people to just be who they are.

      RE: Sad but true

I hope you mean "Gay Rights". Asking people if they're "for" homosexuality is just a complicated way of asking them if they're gay or not.
I'm for Gay Rights because it is just as much their right to be married as it is Dick and Jane's. Legally, that is. There ARE churches out there that tolerate Gay Marriages.
We just can't deny them the rights that we, our selves, have.

        RE: Sad but true

It's not my business whether someone is gay or not. It's not my place to judge them because of it, any more than it is theirs to judge me because I'm not.

I don't think that the government should let religion get in the way of people getting married consensually, especially if it's just a civil union (note the words CIVIL as in NOT RELIGIOUS), whether it is between two men, two women, a man and a woman, or a person and a dolphin (although I'm not sure how the dolphin would give consent). If the religions want to give some sort of rationale on WHY being gay is evil, let them--but I'm not a member of any of those religions, nor will I let them rule my thinking--nor do I think they should have any sort of say in our government rulings. Remember those little words, "Separation of church and state"?

It seems ridiculous to me that there even IS a debate about whether gay people should have rights. They are people just like the heterosexuals, just like the women, just like the blacks, just like the Jews and the Irish and anyone else who has ever been discriminated against. If you replace the word "gay" with the word "black" the world would go nuts over how racist and illegal this whole issue is. Why is it that a sexual orientation is different from the color of one's skin? The gender you are attracted to is just as permanent and unchangeable (please disregard Michael Jackson) as the color of your skin.

I'm not even going to get into the ideas of whether it's an inborn thing or a learned thing--it DOESN'T MATTER. It's not contagious, that's all that is important. If you're not gay, you're not going to "catch" it. If you are gay, you're not going to pass it to your children, whether they are biological or adopted. And no one other than you yourself (and, I guess, the government, but not based on religious fanatics) should have a say in whether or not you can get married, have the same rights as heterosexual couples, have/adopt children, hold office, etc.

Final note: I'm not sure where you got that post, myimmortal18, but I'm pretty certain you didn't write it. Want to give some sort of credit? Or a link?

Before you have gay rights, you have to abolish ignorance.

Some of these statements are just not true(at least I can't imagine how they can be, even in a really homophobic/homosexual-hating place), through:

                RE: Re: Sad but true

Homosexuality is a silly topic to debate on. Anyone against someone having the rights to be homosexual is probably ignorant, stupid, a supremist, and sometimes even hypocritical if they're really dumb (you know, the one that says "I don't discriminate!"). There isn't anything to debate unless you're a Christian that lets your religion keep you ignorant or a 13 year old.

Speaking of Christianity and homosexuality, where does the Bible say homosexuality is a sin? I still never learned the exact location in the Bible no matter how many times I ask =/ Do Christians even know their own damn Bible?

Heck, I'm going to start a religion, called Carboism. Anyone who has a house and does not give me money is sinning, and I'll form ralleys with people holding picket signs. I'll go to Congress, bitch about it, make a whole debate over in Congress, and someday if I'm lucky, I'll have a lot of money. But wait! I just forgot I'm intruding on people's rights as citizens by having a law passed which affects everyone purely based on the opposition of my religion! So much for this country being based off the sole purpose of allowing any religion to be practiced with the rights of not being forced into practicing anything another religion may practice! Banning homosexual marriages is about as stupid as that >_> It's amazing those damn Christian Congressmen haven't banned any polytheistic religion; isn't that a sin?

I think it's in the Old Testament but yes the Bible says that man shall not lie with another man and the same for women. IMO I have lesbian and bi friends. Only thing I can do for them is pray that they begin to like the opposite sex.

And praying really does something and all.

People will do whatever the fuck they want with their sexual life. Its not going to effect them anymore then anything else.
I dont enjoy homosexuality but i hate people that think they are evil and going to hell.
First of all hell doesnt exist and most of them are pretty damn nice.

Dude. Stop imposing your beliefs on everyone else. Nobody's calling you out or insulting you or anything, there is NO reason for you to be talking shit about religions like that. It is highly offensive.

It is obviously not the religion that pisses you off, but the majority of the followers. You do not know all Christians, you cannot judge. You do not even know what true Christianity is, obviously. It is just as peaceful as Buddhism, if you will. You hold the religion to the reputation of the majority of the followers and are a moron for it.

Or you could stone them to death, that always works too.

I really don't care if someone is gay or bi or whatever. As long as they respect that I'm heterosexual and know I don't really care who they had anal with, it's cool.

You have a problem with the very vocal "Christian Right," not Christians all together. As a former Christian I take offense at your ignorance of faith in general. Honestly, I love religion, it's a great way to decide how to live your life. I still live by Christian ideals, however, I don't believe in all the miracles and God stuff.

Remember: Being an anti-religion fanatic is just as bad as being a religious zealot.

Now, back to the topic of the thread.
