The taser was used very properly. In a struggle, a number of things can happen. Broken noses, concussions, etc. The guys was resisting SEVERAL police officers, and rather than risking a struggle, they put his ass down so he wouldn't be kicking and screaming. It's not inhumane, you just imagine that it must be.

Both of those are falsehoods.

The tazer may not have been entirely necessary, but I wouldn't say it was overreacting.

Ok, the police are meant to protect the citizens, BUT, they also must protect themselves. If I were a cop, I would have tazered him as well. If there's someone flailing about resisting arrest, there's a risk of an OFFICER getting hurt, such as a concussion, broken nose, EYE GOUGED OUT, broken fingers, wrists, arms, etc. There's a number of things that can happen when trying to subdue someone. He could have just as easily reached up and shoved his thumbs into someone's eyes, or twisted their fingers, or whatever. But the point is, tazering to subdue them is less harmful to EVERYONE than struggling to get them to the ground, into handcuffs, and out of the auditorium, and then into the car.

And as for what I was trying to say earlier, Guido pretty much said what I meant, but smarter, more organized and put together.

Sounds like a gross misuse of tazers can result in death. And according to one site that sells tazers, one jolt can deliver up to 50,000 volts. Let's see here.. 17 jolts x 50,000 volts? That's 850,000 volts in 3 minutes. That seems like they really did want to kill that kid

If you were a cop and tazered him instead of putting him in handcuffs, you would be under leave as well.

madmatt, I don't want to put myself in danger, just to subdue some attention whore, nor would I (as much as I would love to,) want to accidentally break that kid's wrist trying to PUT him in cuffs, resulting in some sort of police brutality case.

[Edit] And didn't the article say something about the kid was RESISTING ARREST. Meaning that he was probably resisting handcuffs as well.
