well two of those look like misnomers I'm seeing:

1) not-friends having sex
2) friends with benefits
3) a cover used by one or both parties

only one of those is the real thing.

Friends with benefits are complex. There are a few different types that I've seen.

1) Someone you wouldn't hang out with otherwise.
2) Friends with extreme sexual urges but no interest in relationship things like dating, dinners out, gifts, etc...
3) A relationship disguised as 'friends with benefits', which both parties figure out eventually.

These types of relationships need to be figured out from day one. If someone approaches you and tells you they want to have sex with you, then don't just say O.K. Ask them why, and what the stipulations are, before you go off to hump-fest.

the fact that I agree ITT with some people I used to have on ignore scares me somewhat, mainly b/c they constitute most of the argument I agree with.

People have all kinds of different definitions of relationships. There is not one exact example in which everyone lives by. There's obviously popular ones, of course, but asking for "one example" or "what is meant in the OP" is a flawed question.

Point is, some people feel like sex, or, to a certain extent, some kind of romantic behavior involving physical contact is an integral part of a serious relationship. Others don't. Learn to live with those that have a different definition/opinion. Just because they have a different opinion than you does not make them wrong, and it certainly does not indicate that they have mental issues holy shit I can't believe I just read that from someone that isn't snowc or lito /endrant

On a different note, Bridget summed up what I think you should do the most, Geoff. I think that's the best way to approach this situation. Its kinda funny that this thread has veered off of its course, but that you still are getting what you want out of it, I think.
