Re: Mixtape Project
ian is unreal choons.. I will probably review more of these soon, next up is Melatonin.
Downloading
Chillflow Mixtape
Hero: This beat is cool as hell, love the lyrics too. +10 on this song, will be adding it to my music library.
Ride with Me: I nostalgia'd hard as **** with this still love this song, and Nelly is still good IMO.
Miss Hill: Love that oldschoolish vibe, the flow is tight too the hook is kind of annoying to me but still a good song.
The Thrill: Pretty good mashup (maybe I don't know?) Sounds like older wiz which I really love, his new stuff is meh to me.
Overall mixtape: I liked it a lot, I love hiphop/rap/R&B on a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a 9.5 it really is pretty chill seems like a good drivin' around tokin' to summer playlist.
Melatonin: I've hear the first 30 seconds of Memories of Love and I'm already pumped to listen to the rest.
Memories of love: Please link me to this EP, I want to hear more of this. That voice echoing in the background is sick and this is awesome will also be adding this to my music library +10. I found myself snapping along with the song
Lovely Bloodflow: This wasn't as awesome as the first, but still pretty good. Reminds of me a little bit of edIT's break style in parts which I liked a lot and the piano part is awesome. I can't get over that voice though, kinda takes away from the music in this one. Would be good on a period mix for a lovely lady though.
Lamp Mien: Wayyyyy to slow for me, cool with the instruments and everything but it was just rather bland imho.
A1 Late Night: I feel the same about this one just rather boring to me, I could see myself sleeping to this though.
Overall: 7.5: those two last songs kinda killed my mood but something good still came out of it.Last edited by Emo_Saur_; 07-23-2012, 12:37 PM.sigpicComment

Re: Mixtape Project
i got the one with the most boring title: Mix
Eyes Closed by Netsky
I already love Netsky, but haven't been following the Hospital Records crew as much as I should be! Netsky maintains a perfect blend of traditional jungle-influenced drum & bass and the soulful breakbeat style of related Hospital Records artists (Nu:Tone, High Contrast, London Elektricity, etc.) This track is sure to keep the dance floor pulsing with good vibes.
Rhubarb by Aphex Twin
A classic by all definitions. The rip of this file is either low quality or from the actual vinyl. + points if the latter is true. this song is great at lulling yourself to sleep. clocking in at 7 minutes and 43 seconds, this song is technically against the rules and whoever made this mixtape should be disqualified lol. A good song overall, however I feel as if this track was thrown in as an impatient decision.
I Wish You Could Talk by Squarepusher
Eerie breakbeats and harmoniously dreary organs make this song good for walking outside or riding a bus in downtown on an overcast day. Mixer is obviously a huge IDM head because the last track is
Refraction by Venetian Snares
Venetian Snares songs often have to fight for my interest, and this is one of them. oddly, the album art that came up for this song was an Aphex Twin album?Originally posted by topwhat the hell happened to alden

Re: Mixtape Project
Weekend Chill set
Aether -- Dejame Dormir
out of all of aether's tracks on artifacts, this is one i tend to skip over often. it has nothing to do with the track itself -- which is a solid, well-constructed beat in its own right -- but compared to artifacts' high points, it almost seems like an afterthought tossed in at the last second. aether's sample-manipulation is definitely top-notch; in artifacts, he tries to achieve a vague, wet-fog effect with his production, but this track is one that definitely would be better without it.
Tipper -- Neuron Huskie
i've not followed tipper's stuff for quite some time but it seems like he went for a full glitch/idm sound in his later releases. it fits his style well; his ability to produce interesting sounds can be likened to wizardry, and this track turned out to be very very good. although it does not stray far from territory claimed by early electronic pioneers, a sense of progression and narrative ties the piece together.
Clark -- Dew On The Mouth
dude, body riddle is one of the greatest things warp records has released in the past decade, no kidding. even out of the context of the album, this is still a chilling, introspective track.
TOKiMONSTA - Solitary Joy (Ft. Shuanise)
i haven't yet bought into the tokimonsta hype -- it seemed to me like she simply rode the [chillwave] popularity that came with the chillwave aesthetic. she has some good tracks, but this one is not really much more than a demonstration of her ability to trendily loop some reverb-drenched vocals in a vague swirl of low-fi instrumentals.

Reviews for Endless Cowbell
Bring me Down - This is actually a pretty cool song to listen to, sick remix and definitely gives off a clubbin' vibe haha. 8/10
Fast Forward to Here - Oh boy Flashbulb <3 Anyhow, it givesoff a suspenseful vibe, the melody flowed from the piano wonderfully with the synth beats in the background :') amazing flashbulb song. 9/10
Grown for a minute - Freestyle at it's best. 'nuff said. 8.5/10
Hampden Parks - Classic shit at its best :') 10/10
The Gift - this almost made me cry :') gr8 piano stuff. 10/10

Re: Mixtape Project
Winter On A Primordial Tundra
After Nature
Think this could have been played later on in the mixtape, but still had a very chill mood for it.
Cruising In The Ice
The speech in the beginning was very nice to listen to, especially having the piano playing in the background. After the speech ended it had gotten more progressive which uplifted my mood quite a bit. Amazing stuff.
Oliver
Had me swaying side to side. Was kind of annoyed that it stopped abruptly in the ending, but still had an awesome atmosphere.
Abyss
Kind of makes it sound like Flashbulb's piano songs from Kirlian Selections. Felt like the right ending for this mixtape, since it has a "departing" mood to it.
---------------------------------------
Overall
I'm really glad I got to review this mixtape, I love this kind of music since it has an amazing atmosphere to enjoy.

Re: Mixtape Project
Contact - The Contortionist
aside from the clean vocals mixed with the screaming which sounded terrible in my opinion the song was actually pretty cool. the intro kind of threw me off and felt odd didnt really fit the rest of the song but that might be because the album this was on had a theme to it which would get lost when listening to a song without the context. the ending of the song really made me want to listen to the rest of the album
Introdiction - Scroobius Pip
Easily my favourite track of the mixtape. the energy and emotion he puts out and the beat is just off the hook. i actually listened to this twice in a row. i will definitely keep track of him and get what i cant. seriously amazing song
The Great Gig In The Sky - Pink Floyd
i never really got into pink floyd but this song was really awesome. the fact that there was no lyrics really made this stand out. very powerful song
Transitions - Structures
this song is sweet as hell god damn. i will definitely be checking these guys out. the tempo changes make this a blast to listen to and the vocals were awesome. a band id listen to often for sure

Re: Mixtape Project
My review for Musical Assortment of High Blissful Pleasure~
Yoko Shimomura - Concert Paraphrase on ~Dearly Beloved:
I normally don't listen too much classical music but this piece was very moving, going through a range of emotions. I really enjoyed it but that's somewhat to expect from a song from a videogame with lots of emotional storytelling that I have fond memories of.
Fighter X - Initiate:
Quite different genres in this mixtape. This song starts out a bit generic for a chiptune song but it makes up for that in the second half of the song as it has a pumping build up and a nice mellow outro.
Clonepa - Le coeur noir:
Not what I had expected from Clonepa, as he usually does quite brutal breakcore. This one is pretty mellow though and enjoyable too. The melodies accompanied with some great piano are very diverse and pretty gloomy, all of which are distinguishable traits to clonepa's music, but a nice mellow acid bassline and light breaks are a cool change of pace in his discography.
ITALIAN VIPPER - VIPstop:
I don't enjoy this song. The melodies sound too childish, messy and it sounds like very little time has been put into the track. The song sounds empty and emotionless. There's not a lot going on in the song except for percussion, a looped bassline and looped melodies with quite crappy instruments.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall:
Enjoyable mixtape overall but it didn't feel like it had any particular relation going on or anything between songs (which would've been cool). Sounded like they were picked at random. The clonepa and fighter x song were enjoyable but imo the only track worthy to bear the title of High Blissful Pleasure has to be Concert Paraphrase on ~Dearly Beloved. The song VIPstop really was a downgrade compared to the rest of the songs.Last edited by Nullifidian; 07-23-2012, 09:12 PM.

Re: Mixtape Project
taking a guess that aldentron is furious frustration?
also will update this post with reviews for splitting mechanics and other random word combinations
LOL I GOT DORE YESSS
Type O Negative -- Love You to Death
Not really my style. Very slow paced, Low-Fi, sort of ambient prog metal. Thought the vocal harmonies at ~4:00 were cool though. However the first two minutes were really generic musically.
Stabbing Westward -- Sleep
Like this a lot. Heavy Bass and a good drum rhythm, coupled with futuristic undertones. Very reminiscent of an A Perfect Circle song. really liked the eerie background melody.
The Mother Hips -- White Falcon Fuzz
I don't really know if I like this. The singer's voice is inconsistent and bothers me, and it looks like the song will be very predictable and boring early on. ~2:00, though, there is a really cool bridge. Sort of an old school rock song rhythmically. Upon completion, I can say I enjoyed it.
Das Racist -- You Can Sell Anything
One of my favorite songs, actually. The beat is sick, and the lyrics are amazing (regardless of whether it be jokerap or nerdrap heheh). What can ya do to the kid, totally stupid and sick
Overall, really liked it. Didn't really feel a sense of cohesiveness in the mixtape, but I enjoyed 3/4 of the songs thoroughly.Last edited by infinity.; 07-23-2012, 08:54 PM.signatures are for nerds

Re: Mixtape Project
Will write reviews tomorrow. Also @ the person who reviewed my mixtape (Ian), I'm sorry to hear you already disliked that genre of music in general. I felt those songs were the best of their kind.Last edited by MarioNintendo; 07-24-2012, 03:55 PM.Comment

Re: Mixtape Project
this is actually one of my favorite aether tracks. while i agree with the wet-fog analogy, this song was actually used as a transitional track. the song is intended to seem looped for the most part, but there are slight changes in white noise/background guitar melody, which is accompanied by glitches to kind of show the **cLeAr** in the fog. however, i completely respect and understand your prospective holmes
