This is my thoughts exactly. Nintendo did it, they really incited me to now make me consider purchasing the Wii-U.

I'm kind of salivating still from all that Smash Brothers gameplay yesterday. Now if only they could say the online portion would be 100x better than what they had in Brawl, then I'm totally sold on a Wii-U purchase. Competitive Smash seems to be something I might enjoy if I start being competitive in the new Smash Brothers game.

it looked too much like brawl. unfortunately.

they also increased hitstun to near-64 proportions, and added enders to jab combos, and a /lot/ of things to diversify the cast (some are a bit gimmicky, but ah well i guess?) so i guess that's interesting

Pretty much. I found it rather boring to watch personally, but probably a lot of the reason for that was the reliance on items to win which were allowed for pure showcasing which is fine, I can't outright judge it by that. I'm most just looking forward to the vastly the improved online gameplay so we can see who the king of smash is here

          or, king of camp

there's probably a reason that samus was the best character according to the treehouse

King of smash 4 I should say.

Samus being the best character is 1. only the case because of balancing still not being quite so fine tuned still yet and 2. It's doubtful that Nintendo is capable of exploiting just yet what the worlds best will inevitably do to determine who actually is at the top of the tier list.

              Re: E3 2014

I'm sure there's going to be all sorts of rules to make the new game not like Brawl.

I don't know, I'm just kind of excited because... man... if there's actually good online service for this new Smash Brothers game with customize-able rule sets that players can either create or find accordingly.

That's a gold mine in my opinion.

Also, maybe it's because I don't really see the problem, but item usage I think can be fun if fine-tuned just right for a particular rule-set so no one has a sudden advantage.

Items can be fun for completely casual gameplay even if I can't remember the last time I used them, but using them in a match to determine the better fighter adds a completely unnecessary element of randomization lacking the straightforwardness of utilizing ones characters move set and stage and match-up knowledge to win.

yoshi game i hope they don't fuck up like kirby epic yarn. that game was a disaster almost solely on the fact that there was no consequence to dying.

smash looks alright. it won't replace melee but I'll enjoy it casually with friends.

zelda warriors dynasty warriors rehash blah blah

new zelda game though idk we'll see. I wasn't huge on twilight princess and skyward sword.

splatoon looked hella fun yes yes yes

mario maker lol it's like they forgot that people have been making custom levels for well over a decade now

toad game yeah sure why not. looks fun.

bayonetta well I might get this since it comes bundled. never was my sort of game but I might change my mind when I pick it up

                  kirby rainbow cuse

myiamoto secretly showcasing new starfox game in development hngggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

new pokemon game stuff we already know basically. i'll probably get this too even though it was my least favorite gen

xenoblade is probably the game I'm looking forward to the most

                  new smash character announcement

tbf though, when was the last time dying had any (noticeable) consequence in a nintendo game? relevant: I just finished super mario 3d land. I had ~500 lives.

true, but think about the audience size for rom hacks vs. an official game

death should have larger consequences in genres such as rpgs/rts/shooters/etc

even older games such as smw3 and mario64 had relatively small consequences for dying

NES era: games so hard that if you beat it you were heralded as a hero
SNES/N64 era: games were less hard, more fun
                              GC/Wii Eras: maxifun no difficulty
????? Era: Games so easy they play themselves.

Kinda miss the NES era. There's no games anymore that were unfair in difficulty. EG. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
