want to ask about the issue of misplacing players in wrong divisions
it is understandable and a fact that such a thing will happen with 1000+ players participating
after 2-3 rounds you can check and found out easily misplaced players
i have seen a few intermediate/advanced wrongs
the question is what will you be doing with those categorizing errors?
the tournament is a great thing, it will be a shame that a few mistakes will steal the first/second place of the real division players

even if there are only say 4 mistakes in intermediate that will result in a final showdown between advanced players really, missing the purpose of the whole division

I see what your saying but I'm sure they have a method they use to divide the players accordingly. In the tounament thread it said something about being placed by your FFR accomplishments. Welp, this is my first tourney and being put in intermediate is pushing my skills to the max. I AAA'd for all 3 rounds so far. Hope this answers your question.

Their method is based on level rank stats, and it does seem like they often get some people too good for their divisions. In the end of last tourney, it seemed like everyone left at the end in every division but expert was easily capable of finishing top 10 of advanced. Even the least couple people in beginner and intermediate like Loot, Sauce, Brothaice, etc. were getting highly advanced scores. I don't think they'll do anything about this other than getting rid of cheaters and making it so good people are put in higher divisions the next time.

well they say that its ok but in fact there are wrongs that i witnessed

if intermediate for example is based on playing songs in 5-8 diff
a rule that if some players has a lvl 9 song AAAd so he is automatically in advanced

with mistakes the tournament is less about actual division players and more about % of mistakes made by the tournament organizer

I've always been near the top of advanced. I'm not good enough to compete at the expert level. I'm not in the wrong division. I'm not even the best person in advanced, and I wasn't last time, either. Schrammbledeggs, lxdestinyxl, and drummerlsu are all better than I am, and schramm is in the same division as me, again. So, which users do you think are in the wrong division? EvilPeer was, but I think he's already been eliminated.

advanced\expert is less of a problem because the low amount of expert players
the main thing is intermediate\advanced

and i seen for example 2 players for now in intermediate that got the Otaku Speedvibe [Heavy] and the Zephon token and a small/meduim mass of lvl 9 AAAs

many advanced placed players dont have that kind of achievements


intermediate players that could of gone far in the right division, placed in advanced are killed. clearly there is place for improvement in categorizing next time

I'm in beginner and its ok. I almost AAA the song they give (I know, I'm not pro). I would die if I was in intermediate 'cause like at least 20 person AAA the song you have to do. And I can only FC them.

Nobody is perfect. I saw the method being used to place people into a division and considering the sheer number of people, and the desire to get the tourney running in a timely manner, I have nothing but good things to say about Sprite- and his excellent work.

That said, there will (hopefully *waves at LightDarkness*) be some tools for more fine-tuning of the intermediate/advanced players well before the next major tourney happens.

like me, i was just too good for expert therefore i purposely got 3 goods on legend to get out on the second round. damn expert people lol. i want top seed advanced now ;(

They need a system kind of like tier points or something, except that it actually is pretty close to someone's skill level and could be used to determine divisions. I think to avoid the gamewhoring factor, it could just add up each person's 10 songs they have the most tier points on, and then people could be placed in divisions like so:
Expert - 56-90
Advanced - 33-55
Intermediate - 4-32
Beginner - 0-3

Or something like that. Might need a little tweaking, though.

Edit: Err, honestly, there's too big of a skill difference within each division. There should be 5 divisions, then it could be made like this:

Master - 61-90
Expert - 41-60
Advanced - 21-40
Intermediate - 3-20
Beginner - 0-2

Although, if there was one set way of doing it like this, people could try to stay just low enough to be in a lower division. There should be some system that could put people in divisions pretty well though.

Well, it's hard when a lot of people don't play a lot of the songs, yet I think someone who does really well on several songs is better than someone who does reasonably well on all the songs, yet the tier point system would put the person who'd played more songs on top.

when you get down to it the tournament is all about AAAing the song
tier is too wide based on too many songs

Intermediate lvl 5-8 songs is that true?

a reasonable approach would be to say if you have a specific amount of songs AAAd that are above your division you will be automatically assigned to a higher division
like for a Intermediate guy 5-8 if he has 5-10 lvl 9 songs that will move him to Advanced

even less then 5-10 its just an example

heh yea what ever happened to those, i thought they were going to make a system for those.
