A Cure For Our Boredom: User Generated Entertainment!

Posted in FFR News, Spontaneous Contests on March 27th, 200843 Comments »

So, MalDON and I are sitting in an airport waiting for our connecting flight.  We’re going to be stuck in an undisclosed location once we land for the evening, waiting for the mythical Synthlight to appear.  We figure that the best cure for this cabin fever is some lulz created by all of you.  So be on the look out for contests and other shinanigans starting in about 6 hours.  The FMO/FGO event songs for today will go up this evening as well!

Caught in a Blue Rose, no escape from Reality

For today, we have yet another epic OSTER Project song.  Blue Rose is 6 minutes long and a shade over 3600 notes, with jacks and hands galore.  Stepfile is by stargroup100, and fits with his theme of stepping jazzy songs.  I listed it as a FGO, but I am still considering it FMO, possibly.  I think the megatrill combined with the length and number of hands and minijacks and jumpstream is enough for it to be a low FGO.

Secondly is our new fastest stream song in FFR, passing yesterday’s Electro Rush x8 v2.  Many of you are familiar with The Berzerker from SM or FFR R2, but until today, there had not been any in R1.  Reality joins an elite group of songs that are in both R1 and R2.  It is short, at 1:17, but is jam packed with 921 notes (and the 1st 10 seconds are blank!).  It is 77 seconds of 259bpm 8th jumps and 16th stream, so enjoy.  Be thankful that hi19hi19 used fairly straightforward patterns!

As a quick FYI: A group of us are leaving from LA for Chicago tomorrow en route to the convention on Saturday.  So updates will be whenever I can get them done.  We look forward to seeing all of you on Friday in Ann Arbor and on Saturday in Bowling Green!  We’ve got laptops, rock band, SSBB, pizza, and who knows what else!  Even if you can’t be there, we’ll be broadcasting the entire thing live onto the front page of the site….  with plenty of interaction in the chats!

Etude of the Piano Gymnastics Are Rushing Electrically (twice)!

OK… so the title is quite contrived.  Sue me.  Today’s 2 FMO/FGO event songs are Piano Etude (Gymnastics), which compliments the popular classical piece Piano Etude (Demon Fire).  Stepfile is by Behanjc…  and has been given a “platinum” rating by many respected FFRers.  I highly recommend you check this file out, found on Page 2 of Hip-Hop.

In addition is a Skill Token, which gives everyone TWO reasons to like it!  Not only is it a FGO with 250+ bpm stream, but it’s a SKILL TOKEN!  The song is Electro Rush x8 v2.  Both of today’s songs are by highly touted OSTER Project. V2 is by Rebirth0.  To unlock, you have to play Electro Rush x8, found on page2 of dance2.  In addition, you have to FC it, have 0 boos, and 2 or less goods.  A difficult task, but an excellent reward!

Enjoy!

Eradicate the Club on the 2nd day of FMO/FGO Event!

Posted in Simfiles, Song of the Week on March 24th, 200849 Comments »

Still no public beta release, which we apologize for…  but we’re working hard to make it happen, believe me.

Today’s 2 songs are a bit harder than yesterdays.  If you played StepMania back in 2002 or 2003, you should be familiar with the song Club.  Well, it’s by Patt.22, who also goes by The Fat’s Sabobah  or jewpinthethird.  It’s about time that Club finally hits FFR, as it’s a great song.  Unfortunately, if you don’t have the beta, this song is going to cause you serious problems.  It’s similar to AIM Anthem….  only 10% faster.  Stepfile is by Rebirth0 and is full of 120bpm 16th jacks.

The 2nd song will also appear on the widgets.  Eradication is a hardcore metal song by All Shall Perish, and tips the charts at over 11.5 notes/second.  We feel that it is a very low FGO, but I’m willing to hear arguments as to why it is a really high FMO.  Stepfile is a collab between ElectricWerewolf and bluguerrilla.

I’m sure some of you will complain that these songs are still not hard enough.  Trust me…  these 2 are harder than yesterday’s two.  Tomorrow’s two will be even harder.  It will only get harder.

Easter/Convention/AvMiss Fix FMO-FGO Event!

Posted in Game Announcements, Song of the Week on March 23rd, 200871 Comments »

First off, happy egg day to all of you who celebrate it. But let’s get right into the good stuff. Many of you may have been anticipating this, but for others it will be news… on the FFR Beta, there are no more average-misses. No more jack syndrome. No more random “wth, I didn’t miss that!” moments. And, because of this, we realized that we would need many new really hard songs to compensate.

So a big thanks to Rebirth0 and jimerax for all of their work in putting together this event. The FMO-FGO event (For Masters Only & For Gurus Only) will last for 7 days, culminating on Saturday… which also happens to be the day of the Animarathon FFR Convention in Bowling Green, OH (2nd Annual). Each day should get progressively harder, to some extent.

All songs will be placed in Hip-Hop for the event, so they are all centrally located. You’ll notice all the old random songs from HH are now gone. Today’s 2 songs are Novo Mundo by our own Dj_Ossa (also stepped by Ossa) and the long anticipated Lawn Wake I (LW EP Edit) by The Flashbulb (stepfile by Rebirth).

Oh yes… did I mention the other fun part of this event? The Beta fixes for jack syndrome will be made public. Along with a few other currently subscriber-only features, such as: in-game key remapping, in-genre page navigation, and a drop-down list of all songs for navigation. Possibly more features as well. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to release it just yet… but it will be out before the event is over!

-Tass, Rebirth, jx, and Synth’s creepy eye.

edit: If you just can’t wait…  you can subscribe and get the Beta now, along with all the other swell subscriber benefits.

Tass is bored… Somebody wins!

Posted in Spontaneous Contests on March 14th, 200866 Comments »

So, I’m sitting here in NYC, waiting for the basketball games to start tonight, and I’m bored.  I thought, “Tass, how can you cure your bored while involving the FFR community?”  And I replied to myself, “Well Tass, we can run a contest, we can.”

So, without further ado…   a caption contest!

Uploaded to my profile is this image:

Spontaneous Contest Image

I don’t know what this thing is…  but, come up with the best caption to go along with this image and you’ll win a 6 month subscription.  Any others that are good, but not good enough to win, will get some credits.

It is currently 2pm EST.  You guys have until 4:30pm EST to submit your caption.  To submit, post a comment for this image in my profile, located through this link.

 Good luck, and happy captioning!

EDIT: Contest is over.  I’ve read all the responses, and via a completely subjective process…  our finalists are MarukuAntoni, SmacK, Netjet!, EnR, Atharus, -Barista-, DDRfreak15371, and JenovaSephiroth.  I have to run and don’t have time to pick the grand prize winner…  will re-edit this in about 8 hours with the subbie winner.  The above 8 will get credits.  Jenova will also get cake.

EDIT2: And, after a tough deliberation process, I’ve decided that the well thought out portal reference caption by JenovaSephiroth is our winner, with the following caption:

“Insert your Identity Disc into the white Identity Disc Reader, put your hands on the handles on the sides, and pull towards yourself. The door should gently slide out and downwards, and reveal a Weighted Companion Cube. Please be advised that the Weighed Companion Cube will not kill you, and, in fact, cannot speak. If, in the event that the Weighted Companion Cube does speak, do not follow its advice.
