It only takes 5-10 seconds to turn on my computer because of my solid state, but I still generally leave it on unless I am leaving it for several days.
There are actually problems with leaving it on and turning it off so you probably have to find some medium between the two. I'd imagine as long as you have stable temperatures than you are doing little damage to your hardware, but over time things always wear down.
Turning on and off your computers a lot can cause damage because of the extra startup jolt and if a piece of hardware is near its end and you turn it off that might be the last time it will ever be on.
My pc has been powered on 77 times since I got it 2 months ago. A number of those were probably when I first put the thing together and I swapped harddrives a lot. But it seems that it has been on for 1 month and 17 days out of the 1 month and 19 days that I've had it.
Lmfao, I never shut down my 2010 HP laptop and there's next to no problems with it- apart from hardware issues caused by my negligence. Uptime on that thing would reach a couple thousand hours before I really had to restart it due to random issues, or if thermal shutdown occurred by playing Portal or something.
But now I have my Asus, the HP lives under my bed, -off- and I shut down the Asus overnight. During the day, I leave it on sleep.
For my old desktop, I'd usually just leave it on because its gonna be used by many of my family members. As for my Macbook Pro, I shut that shit down when I'm not touching it for hours cuz the standby drains battery like shit. Otherwise I practically never shut it down for days.
I AM ASHAMED OF MY STUPIDITY AND MUST COMMIT SEPPUKU. FORGIVE ME, FFR.
On, 24/7 with restarts frequently to do updates and the like.
This is my current OS instance. Next instance is due for an installation but I'm trying to stretch it as long as possible, and may just keep it until a major messup.
Vista is the worsest OS after me/2000 in my days of using Windows XD.
Maybe i consider to let my pc on when i turned it on in the morning and turn it off at the night except when i download something.
yeah I agree. My video card is too new for XP but can't run Windows 7 either so I'm pretty much stuck unless I actually put money into my computer which ain't happening

I'm pretty sure any video card requirements are just for running Windows Aero which Microsoft for some reason is so apeshit retarded that their "minimum requirements" includes the running of Windows Aero. Windows 7 can be pretty lightweight if you make it so.
Funny story (actually not funny at all): After raid last night, my guild leader got a phone call from her boyfriend about his computer exploding due to a bad power supply. Apparently he keeps his PC on all the time, and it ran super hot. Shrapnel flew past his face and wrecked his wall, and his desk caught on fire.
Fortunately he's fine otherwise. If you plan on leaving your shit on for extended periods of time, don't build a computer with cheap parts !!
I never turn off my computer and whenever it tries to do Automatic Updates, I just hit "Postpone for 4 hours" every 4 hours. My laptop only turns off when it dies.
