Fortunately he's fine otherwise. If you plan on leaving your shit on for extended periods of time, don't build a computer with cheap parts !!
My first lesson of Hardware 101 was almost literally some Russian dude yelling "NEVER CHEAP OUT ON THE POWER SUPPLY" over and over and over again.

I don't shut off every night, but I restart for updates and shit.

None that required any downtime or restarts. This is from a Medical Records Database I built for a client. 20+ clients log in through RDP (Remote Desktop) I built the system, Deployed the OS, and configured RDP. I did not set up the database :3

i let my pc on but it has a power saving mode to it so after 30 minutes its 90% off, until i touch anything then its 100% on again.

I leave my desktop on until my room gets to like 147 degrees, but during the winter it never goes off. My laptop I hibernate every night though~ rarely ever fully shut it down.

I have been shutting off my computers for about two decades now and never had any issues. In fact i still have one of my computers from 1995 with all the original parts with a video card from 1999 still have original though.

Honestly see off as the better option

                        Re: PC on or off

I run some high end parts on my desktop and I don't leave mine on running 24/7 unless I'm downloading something pretty huge. The LED lights from my PC can be annoying when I try to sleep so that's another reason I also don't run it all day. If you have a laptop, I would highly suggest you to turn it off when you're not using it so you can prevent an overheating problem. Your laptop won't die(yet), but your speed and performance will degrade even faster because you didn't take care of your machine.
