    Young americans = Brainwashed??

I'm not starting this topic to create a flame war, its just that I noticed that some Americans act like they are "Brainwashed". For example they say that they didn't lose in Viet-Nam and they only retreated for political reasons or whatsoever. Same thing for Korean war.

Some also think that USA is the best country in the world.

In those topics USA vs. Canada, its normal to think that your country is superior, but personally, I think that both countries are equal, in some way or another.

Also, I was watching Failry Odd Parents when I was in USA (yeah don't ask me what I was doing watching that stupid show...anyways) and I noticed they where talking like if USA was the best country in the world. Actually...they said that it was the best country in the world.

I just want to know you opinions on this subject.

This is NOT AT ALL meant to be a Canada vs. USA or any other country thread, or a flame war.

    TV IS BAD FOR YOU.

Seriously. It's the wrongest thing to ever be invented. I've been off it for about a year now and I've never felt better. Think of it this way: When you're planning your evening are you planning around that 9:00 showtime or around your friend's interests?

By the way, there was also an episode of the Fairly Odd Parents where they went to Canada and Cosmo kept saying that Canada was the best country.

      Yeah I'm a little drunk.

With the way the American government acts, it's no surprise the citizens think they're the best thing on the planet.

They say they strive for equality, but they've got more racism then some third world countries (but, granted, not as much violence towards them.)

One day, when it's too late, we'll ALL realize that colours don't matter, that no country is superior, and that if we want to survive, we'll have to work together. When it's too late.

I don't think they're brainwashed so much as a product of the liberal mainstream media.

As for my views on America being greater than all, that's not someone else's ideas that I just heard and accepted. I heartily believe that while recognizing that my decision needs to come from an objective point of view.

America i believe is more about itself than most countries. It's not really a bad thing, think about it. They're the only country that still uses the imperial system, their kids are really only taught american history in school, and i'm sure there's all kinds of other things. It's just the way kids are brought up. It's up to them to decide what to think.

Brainwashed? Of course. Children, for the most part, mirror their parents.

If Dad is talking about how the "Wetbacks" keep ruining our great country by immigrating across the border and working for less pay, the kid is going to be racist against the Latino People.

If Dad is talking about how the large coperations keep holding down the little man, and how the rainforests need saving, then the kid is going to be a "Leaf-Person" (aka, Tree Hugging Hippy).

If Dad is absent from the dinner table, and mother is too, and the only way the child is to here stories about life is from the TV, then the child will learn that Teenagers have sex 24/7, and Minorities will shoot you.

It is the parent's job to teach them right from wrong. It is the Parent's job to take care of their children.

America=not brainwashed. We aren't being brainwashed into thinking we are the best. We are, no denying it, the last superpower in the world. We've even passed super, we're into Mega. If some country pisses us off, flick our finger and we can have half of our superb air force and a small chuck of troops over to obliterate the government there. It's too simple. Only problem, which keeps the world at peace right now, is that the government knows it's more profit to trade with your enemies than to conquer them.

Rambling. Anywho, that "problem" is saving us right now. Also, past the military, we also excel in our economy. Free enterprise, the candy of all economies that serve a democratic (or demo-republic) society. We have the strongest, steadiest economy in the world. It is near impossible for us to every have problems with the economy since the government barely interferes and when it does, it just reroutes things to slow and stop a recession (which, b the way, are very natural in capitalism).

Reason 3 that USA is "the best" is it's head start. We were the first country to have a government like this one. We've had time to work it the right and wrong ways to suit us better. Other countries just need some more time. They'll get there.

Racism in America. Why are we more racist? There are more races in a smaller area. We have the largest spectrum of ethnicities in one city than many other countries do at all. The racism generated by the simpletons exposed to other cultures is the main cause. To be honest, I'm not worried about racism at all.

                      Did I miss anything?

                        Your sarcasm is hilarious. Really.

                        1. We're taught both systems of measurement early on where I live in the US.

                        2. American history only? BS. I've just as much in school about Asia, Africa, and Europe as the US. Perhaps not Australia but that's just a dingo island. :P

If you think we isolate ourselves in doing what you think we're doing (teaching youngsters only American things) then you're mistaken. Nice DBZ avatar by the way. Wait, DBZ... hahahahaha. You're how old?

                            Just an FYI, He's 21.

Secondly, LEGO, you're a pretty good example of a bullsh*tter. Go south and ask people where British Columbia is. Hell, you could even ask some where Canada is and they wouldn't know. The fact that half (probably not that much, but I'd 20-30%) of your population thinks all cold weather comes from Canada to the US (they're wrong, it's the other way around) and we all live in Igloos and it never gets over 60F, ever, can't name our Prime Minister, thinks all we play is hockey, etc etc etc.. and you think you're educated about all of the world when you don't even know anything about your neighbours to the north. I'd say you're pretty brainwashed. Name things about Asia, Africa, and Europe that the common people wouldn't know.

Jazz, the same is true EVERYWHERE. Canadians do no better. Africans do no better. Europeans do no better. No one is any better on that aspect, except what they know of America. Odd isn't it that most people know about us?
