Re: SOPA and PIPA DOMINATED
God, from the title I thought SOPA and PIPA ass-raped everybody and was passed.
/heart attack averted.
edit: Welp, as predicted, it's being redrafted. Redrafted so the Internet can tell them to GTFO again.Last edited by supermousie; 01-20-2012, 10:16 AM.Originally posted by apersonyolo -

See what happens when you get enough people united together, harassing the hell out of their representatives?
Stuff like this needs to happen more often.Comment

Re: SOPA and PIPA DOMINATED
sopa and pipa, yeah okay.
The world governments are giving us the middle finger anyways. They're going to shut down every heavy pirate site now.Comment

Re: SOPA and PIPA DOMINATED
We'll, they'll try, at least. Huge networks have always fallen in the past and ten more spring right back up. It's an uphill battle, since you can't really stop piracy without putting serious limits on personal liberties. Piracy will *always* be available in some form.
But the best solution to combat piracy, really, is to allow for low-cost distribution channels that offer superior networks and markets to that of pirate channels (just look at iTunes, Steam, and Netflix). You can also focus on ways to choke off the financing/profit motives of rogue pirate sites.Comment

Re: SOPA and PIPA DOMINATED
Here's a good example that's relevant: How many times has ThePirateBay been indicted? They have "Pirate" in their NAME, chrissakes. They give about -9001 ****s about U.S law, and I don't see them sinking (see what I did there?) anywhere in the near future because a new bill has been passed or because somebody got butthurt.
@Rubix: An entire Internet community unifying against something they really, truly don't like. It's almost poetic.Originally posted by apersonyoloComment

Re: SOPA and PIPA DOMINATED
I disagree. I think this is a great example of the notion that the American people have more power than they give themselves credit for.
As long as SOPA/PIPA continue to try to sneak in censorship BS, it'll continue to be met with violent opposition until it becomes reasonable.Comment
