    Terabyte Owners

I just ordered a 1TB external hard drive since my sad, little MacBook is running out of space and I was wondering - what do you other TB owners use your extra space for?

I plan to make 3-4 partitions for my mac. One will be a complete backup of my current HD, with extra room for additional programs and media. On the 2nd partition I'll be installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp. The 3rd will simply be an expansion of my current HD and a fourth might be leftover space for any future OS's, programs, sound libraries, etc..

I'm excited to finally have enough room to test out (and keep) more SM packs and programs in general. I plan to try out some more DAWs (music software) and sample libraries and I'll finally have Windows running smoothly and with space for my games.

    Any suggestions?

I doubt windows will run smoothly if you're running the partition off of an external hd

I use my space for music movies and random stuff

"That just will not do." was keywii's response as she lunged for the scissors, pulled the blades apart, and clamped them down on the base of foil's shaft. Blood start gushing out of the wound where his penis used to be.
          "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Yelled Foil in horror.
"Don't worry. I'm a wizard" uttered Keywii. And with that, Foil's penis grew back.

Yup.. I dunno. I'm running out of space so I need to get a new 1tb or 500gb.

I don't really use mine...I have a 1TB and only have 80 gb used up right now :P

But games and music, mostly. It's a new pc, so I'll probably get it up to over 250 gb of usage eventually.

Have 2 other partitions for Linux (/boot and /). I don't know why you guys divide up your drives depending on what type of files they are. That's what directories are for. I only have 2 for Windows because when I re-install I don't want to have to reinstall everything etc etc. I even make backups of my registry and put them in there.

Mostly games on C, music/TV/movies on D. Did a lot of cleanup of my D drive recently.

Lots of music out there. o.o I wonder if anyone has had the time to listen to say 500GB of their own music (guess it depends on the quality/file size..).

In my spare time I managed to free up 25GB of space on my internal drive. Weird how when you think you've deleted something it's often just hiding somewhere else on your computer..

I used to have my D drive full of music, but I went through one day and went hacking and slashing once I admitted to myself that I wouldn't ever really listen to 75% of it regularly.

When you delete a file, it just deletes its entry in the filesystem but the bits that the file is composed of are still arranged as the file, the computer just doesn't see it as a file rather than space it can read off of. If you make a file from bit 5000-5500 of your hardrive, and those bits contained a bunch of plain text files, if you read the contents of that file in maybe notepad, you'd see the text files all squished together except there would be a bunch of random filesystem stuff before each one.

To be fair, I have no partitions on my computer. Those are all real individual harddrives.

I'm pretty sure this is only true if the filesize exceeds a certain amount. If you delete something like a single picture it would be small enough to do a little bit of real HD wiping.
