the way i did it was by taking all the stickers off and rearragnging them how they were originally.

Its better to just take it apart and put it back together so that you dont run the risk of destroying your stickers but then again its faster to just know how to solve the cube anyways.

Nice thread. Its about time there's a "learn how to solve a rubiks cube" thread up. I know how to solve one anyways though. Goodluck with the higher cubes tutorials too.

Pretty good explanation.

If you want to make images in the future, it's probably quicker to use NxN ImageCube. You just give it the cube size and plug in the stickers on the U, R, and F faces, and it draws a really nice-looking cube for you (in any size you want).

Sure :P I need to switch rom Dan Browns method to Fridrick some time. I just keep coming back to the Dan Brown method and beat my record again but when I do the Fridrick method, I just end up switching back to Dan Browns lol.

This thread wasn't intended for people who already know how to solve a cube and wish to do it faster. I already made a post in your thread regarding my techniques for speed.

Yes you can take the cubes off and put them back on, but the function of this thread is to get people who do that to quit and actually solve the thing. It really isn't hard once you start to get the hang of it, and it's a hell of a lot more impressive if you can solve it without cheating.

@ Rubix: You can do what you want. I don't seem to be getting a lot of 'hey thanks! I can solve the cube now!' responses.

That vid will be up tomorrow for those of you who learn visually.

P.S. lol one of my green edges has faded completely to white. I'll need to replace it with a sticker from my old cube. (it broke, so now it's my source of replacement stickers.)

God ****ing damn it.

I'm doing the 1st part, but I have the green/orange and green/yellow edge pieces switched around, but I have the cross on top.

Don't tell me I have to deal with parity ALREADY... >_<

Edit: Never mind. I just have to do L F to get the green/yellow piece where I want it, albeit reversed, use algorithm 1, then do likewise for the green/orange piece. Sleeping on a problem helps sometimes.

I wouldn't worry about those 'hey thanks, I can solve it now' posts coming too quickly. It took me a day and a half to solve it the first time with the guide right in front of my nose. It seems like a very thorough guide (tl;dr), so I'm sure its coming.

4x4x4 solution:

Essentially, solve the middles, then solve all the edges, then you can treat the cube as a 3x3x3, unless you run into a parity. There are algorithms for fixing the parities on the site.

I prefer to solve the 5x5x5 because I hate parities.

Great...

I just did my second solve, but now I've run into a bit of a problem...some of the centers are oriented incorrectly. (I got this cube from my dad, who gets all sorts of stuff related to radiation therapy because he's a medical physicist. As a result, this particular cube has a message written across the white side pitching a certain product...but I digress.)

I know there's an algorithm or two for setting this right, but it was long and I was a kid when I saw it in a book once. >_<

First some notation: M means move the middle slice (between L and R) in the direction of L, and and E means move the equator slice (between U and D) in the direction of D.

Okay, so, to twist the center on F clockwise by 90 degrees and the center on R counterclockwise by 90 degrees:
(Mi U M) Ei (Mi Ui M) E
and to twist the top center by 180 degrees:
(R U Ri U) 5 times.

Those two sequences should be enough to fix all the centers.
