It's the other way around people. English is a derivation of German (as well as a few other languages), which is a derivation of Latin.

lmao, im in Spanish 3 and i still dont know the basics of spanish or anything in that class, yet can still pass with good grades cuz it is so closely related to english. But i heard French is that way too. So go with one of them.Comment

I'd take spanish. My native language is french and I can tell you spanish is much easier than french. Also, more countries have spanish as their official language.

Uhhh no.
German and English are from a family of languages called Germanic languages. French, Italian, and Spanish are all derived from Latin, and are called the Romance languages. If you have already taken Spanish, you will find Italian and French easy enough to pick up because of their similar roots. I know many friends who find this to be true, and it makes sense linguistically.
I guess I was spoiled with French being my first language (technically), Bulgarian my second, and English my third, along with having a folklorist stepfather who is into linguistics, but what I just told you guys takes 30 ****ing seconds on Wikipedia to look up. And no, I don't care if it's casual conversation; I believe people should always be making an effort to improve themselves through gaining knowledge, and I'm never going to stop pushing for it..
