    School Dances

This may not apply to your schools, but whenever my school hosts a dance, they hire a lame DJ. They don't feel the crowd. All they played at the last dance was rap, and 1 decent not-rap song, which was Dance Dance. What really made me mad was that I requested How Far We've Come, but they didn't play it. Instead, they played Cotton Eyed Joe. How lame is that?

Describe the DJ/Songs they play at your school dances.

    Re: School Dances

My school dances are awkward in that the DJ either plays really slow songs or really fast songs (mostly most of the former), and everyone just stands there. This is why I don't go to most of them. Dances at JSA conventions are another story; they're borderline provocative and it's hilarious.

I don't go to many school dances. But they play the 3 overplayed rap songs you hear on the radio. That gay cyclone song, the retarded crank dat song and something else.

But they did play sandstorm a few times

Oh yeah. They played Sandstorm.... once. And maybe that third song was Stronger?

When I went with my GF and her friends, we had fun with it. We would sit and talk and laug in the commons until we heard the beat of a song we thought we liked. Then we went in the gym, and if we liked it, we would dance. I thought it was kind of akward to go to the dance with her because she has a twin brother, whom I am good friends with, that went there, too. And her parents were running the snack bar.

last dance i went too, it was with my best friend(shes a freshmen) and her brother had been my best friend since middle school(we're both seniors) so it was a lil weird haha.

But she also knew the crank dat steps and i didnt-which made dancing to that song just a lil akward XD

            Re: School Dances

Dances at middle school were...okay. We were usually only informed about 4 days in advance, so finding a date wasn't all that easy (I wasn't very good with girls back in middle school). If I didn't find a date, I did what I do at baseball cames: I wander around and tag along with a group or find a dateless girl. The music was stuff that people usually liked (including Sandstorm. I raved to that song like crazy.), but they played most of the same crap all three years.

High school dances are pretty kick-ass, but they only have two per year that are actually for all students -- football homecoming and (recently added) spring homecoming. Spring homecoming just seems like a way to get rid of money IMO. I really don't see the point.

Fortunately: I get to go to the band banquet as well.
Unfortunately: They have a semi-formal dress code. This means no crip walking, which is one of the few dances that I exceed in = (.

Other than the lack of dances, I really have nothing to complain about in high school.

The one's I do get pretty high reviews. I normally pull of a crazy combination modern day music and hardcore electronica, with a bit of alt rock thrown in between (Ala, The Hives).

Oh, and typically during the middle of it when people start to cool down, I do a scratch session along to "Don't Ya" by the Pussycat Dolls. I hate the song, but god, it's fun to scratch it. Makes the crowd go nuts every time.

Playing Ieva's Polka (Basshunter Remix) is also something I get a kick out of, 'specially when I get on the mic and shout "SOMEONE GET ME A ****ING LEEK" right before the chorus.

You lucky bastard. My school is full of blacks and Latinos who shield their ears to anything if it's not hip-hop, so they'll probably say "That **** is whack, son," or something if I try to play some decent electronica.

You have to figure out what styles of electronica that people like universally.

Like, if you throw on some slow trance, people will be like "this is ****." But if you throw on some Scooter (Namely: One [Always Hardcore]), people love it. You figure it out from watching the crowd for a while. That's why the first few songs of the dance are crucial.

My school has a few dances every year, but I have never gone to one. I think they are pretty bad. Recently, they had to cancel a dance from lack of support, even though three hundred students were able to go.

About the only song that they'd like is I'm Raving (B0UNC3 Remix) or maybe your remix of Blast The Speakers.

I have never heard an actual electronica-style dance song at any dance I have ever been to. No Sandstorm, nothing.

It sucks, because I despise mainstream stuff, which is all that any DJ at my school ever plays. I'm obligated to go to these things because of my position in the school

The mainstream is making me vomit as well. It makes me wonder if people are actually listening to their music...
