    Re: School Dances

You know, I feel like going up to the DJ at the next dance and saying "Hey, you got any Basshunter? How about Darude?" Then when he gives me a blank stare, look disgusted and walk away.

He'll be so confused he might actually look it up. And regardless of what you think of Basshunter/Darude, you have to admit they're pretty easy to research.

Dude, it's the same exact thing at my school. I guess when a teacher/factulty member looks at us as a whole, they tell the DJ to play rap. Because thats what most people in out generation listen to. Which really sucks.

Why can't it be like the 90's and 80's? If the topic of the song wasn't what I'd call appropriate, then they could at least rhyme well.

Our schools play the ones that make you puke. Which is all of rap. R-B and a few really other bad songs. They play maybe one good song and it's the cha cha slide.

The band banquet is actually pretty damn good. The best of the new (which is a small number, by the way) and plenty of old songs. It was pretty damn fun.

One of these days at a friend's party, I'm going to bring my hardcore electronica CD's and have a ****ing rave.

At my school, once someone played 'My Humps' and got kicked off ASB.

And no techno either. Sad times.

The DJ they used when I was in high-school was a guy who taught history there. He actually was a DJ on the side, and he was old enough that I'm not sure whether or not this was completely pathetic. He knew what music most people liked, so that's what got played... so naturally I hated it. I never went, anyway.

Seriously though, at our eighth grade dance, this kid named Brenton just bought half a dozen packs of Sour Punch and huddled in the corner. Zach tossed him a pack of nerds in an attempt to be an asshole. It failed. He just picked it up and placed it in his lap.

Well that kid Brenton sounds like a lonely guy.

On topic: School DJ's typically suck, let's be honest. And it's really not HIS/HER fault that they suck: S/he is misinformed on what teenagers actually like and what we can actually dance to. Assuming that playing songs that are generally found on the radio or have been known to be popular in the charts will turn out to be a great song is the mistake of amateur DJs. It's really the fault of the person who issued the DJ in the first place, not the DJ him/herself.

The dances I've been to varied between being fun and being lame. In both cases they did play rap songs, but it's which song to play that got the crowd going. As mentioned earlier in the thread: the first few songs are crucial and the DJ really has to feel the crowd.

The school DJ's we have aren't that bad in my opinion...

What really bugs me are DJ's at church dances. I've gone to church dances several times since I turned 14, and they always have the same DJ - a member of the church - and he plays the same crap every time. It really sucks. He plays songs that were popular like 6 years ago.

One song that pisses me off is the Cha Cha Slide. Seriously. Almost every time there's a dance, that song is played. Hate it so much. I've thought about suggesting some really good music, and hopefully he'll listen to me.

                          Re: School Dances

Music at every school dance I've ever been to has always been rap, R&B, or cha cha slide. And really, I can't blame anybody. If I wanted some good electronica or a good rave song or something, the only people I can thnk of that would be interested are caucasian, freshmen, and in advanced courses. Considering my school, that's not many ): and out of those, only about 2 or 3 people liked any of that music before they met me. Damn what I wouldn't give to just have a DJ play 101 Kittens just because it would be one of those songs that would piss off the entire school. Even my friends hate that one.

PS. Sandstorm? you've gotta be ****ing kidding me. If I coul hear that at a school dance even ONE TIME, it'd make my 4 years of highschool.

It is fun, but gets boring after a while.

in jr high it was pretty much just like our high school.
they didnt really care what we did. of course they wouldn't play songs that said the f or n-word. other than that...everything was fair game.

I'm one of the lucky ones. Most of my school dances hire good DJs, like they're feeling the crowd. At most my school dances the DJ has had a limit of 3 overplayed/overrated songs.
