They hire a DJ that plays soulja boy, walk it out, pop lock and drop it, chicken dance.
    Rinse, repeat.

Never going to a dance in that school again. Also that was on the 80's dance.

I swear to god. That is the reason I didn't go to the Valentines Dance, either.
The only good "dance" we had, if you can classify it as such, was Karaoke Day last year.
I just want to get out of that school and hope that they don't play such crap in High school.

It's not crappy in high school. It's just less crappy.

They tend to have a good blend of the songs that the idiots like, the songs that the listeners like, and a decent amount of songs from a few years ago and old school.

I hope that by the time I get to prom, they'll have an 80's theme. Some of the best music came from that decade IMO.

They play a lot of mainstream music at dances but I don't really mind. Sure, the lyrics are stupid but the beats are always great. Who listens to the lyrics anyways when you're getting all hot and sweaty, dancing the night away?

Maybe I'm just a slut. Haha.

Part of my job is music analysis. That's the problem.

School dances are ok but nobody really goes to them here at my high school...we just decide that its better to go across the border(we live in brownsville tx, which is right across the border with mexico)and have a party there with drinks and stuff i dunno now a days the dances here are just to show off who has what and whos with who.....really stupid...but hey i go across to so i dont care

-edit- the legal drinking age in Mexico is 18 and they don't check id's

Why go to a dance if you're going to sit there and analyze the music? You're supposed to dance. The problem is that DJs have to appeal to the mainstream, and so they use mainstream music. A DJ isn't going to use hardcore techno or trance because not everyone is in to it and a vast majority of the population likes to listen to things they are somewhat familiar to.

Just have fun. If your idea of having fun is analyzing music, just stay home. Dances are social gatherings of large groups of people and so the music has to appeal to a large group of people. It's simple.

                      Re: School Dances

My regular school dances aren't known for having good DJs, but our school's proms always have good DJs, I heard, because they play a little of every genre. My prom is this year, so I'm excited.

I definitely recommend knowing the popular songs out at the moment before going to any school dance. Even though you may not like the music, it's still enjoyable to dance to a song you're familiar with than not.
