    Window, Apple, Penguin

There has been much controversy about the PC/MAC debate, and i just wanted some info.

Please vote for the rig you run, and post why you own it, if you like it or not, and why you think it should be the default computer. Here is my opinion.

I think Mac is better than all the others. The reason is because of the built-in software. There are many other reasons, but I want to keep this nice and brisk.

    What rig is your fav?

EDIT:If you own more than one, you can select more than one.

EDIT: EDIT: here is a run-down of the stuff on a mac:

-iMovie: Like movie maker, but with more options and less complication
-iDvd: Use video clips from your comp, including iMovie clips, and make a cool dvd, with lots of features
-garageband: music maker using 1300+ sound clips
    -iTunes: built in itunes. awesome!
There are many more great programs, but these are my favorites.

    Microsoft in all honesty.

On top of many other things, I've been on my friend's Mac, and it sucked ass.

Windows XP SP2, probably Microsoft's best OS at the moment. I haven't had any problems with it, it's graphically-appealing without being flamboyant (I'm looking at you, Vista), and provides for a lot of user customization and free reign.

From my experience with Macs, they don't provide as much user control as Windows. Considering their selling points of system stability and lack of viruses, this is probably why.

I've never used Linux, but the software incompatibilities it has are the reason I'll probably never use it on my main computer. If I'm just going to be doing word processing or some other specific task on a computer, I might try Linux, but for my general use (which is basically everything: word processing, video editing, music, Internet browsing, gaming, the works), Windows definitely has the best compatibility, which is why I'll continue to use it.

I am worried about Vista though. It seems like it's taken a step toward becoming a Mac, but done it in all the wrong ways. User Account Control seems to be a way of protecting users from themselves, but when the OS considers the feature being turned off a "problem" and constantly reminds you about it, there's cause for concern. As of now, Vista still suffers largely from software and hardware incompatibility, particularly when it comes to freeware.

Let me put it this way. Macs are for the casual computer users, the ones who don't know very much at all about them, and because of that, won't be doing much work on them. Instead, they focus on things like video, image, and music editing, which these people have a need for. Macs protect users from themselves, and because the users don't feel like they need a lot, Macs can sacrifice a lot in order to achieve higher stability and to become very user-friendly. This makes them ideal for this group, which is quite large.

The more knowledgeable computer users, the ones that know what and what not to do to make a computer work, and don't need as much protection, can use Windows. Yes, it has stability problems and there are some times where you just shake your head and wonder what the computer is trying to tell you. But these people can generally work around or resolve these issues fairly well. These people are also more likely to use software that isn't part of the mainstream, like most freeware, so the added compatibility that Windows has is a bonus.

The ones who are going to be doing more work and more in-depth computer usage tend to use Windows.

As for Linux, I don't know crap about it other than that its window control buttons are on the left side as opposed to the right, and that its logo is a penguin.

Now, I'm not saying that all computer users of a specific group will prefer a specific OS, but the general trend seems to be what I've described.

              Also same.

I've got this 2003 XP comp in 2005, fixed it myself, have had minimal problems since. The hardware's a bit out of date, but I can upgrade it.

MS XP with Unbuntu Duel-Boot which I just dick around with. I don't like macs as they're slower and are pieces of **** for gaming. My noob of a friend bought one for gaming and he runs WoW on a 2fps, tragic.

Well, when I got this computer it had Windows XP on it. I liked it. Until I found out about Linux... (Free OS. What's not to love about it?) I like linux. Not many problems can come up with it. (Unless you screw it up yourself...) I will say one good thing about Windows... Microsoft Games == Awesome. Although, if I could just get Direct Rendering to work for linux... I could play them on Linux... The last 40 times I tried to get direct rendering to work, it gives me the annoying blank screen... It's the whole Refresh Rate... I never could figure out the correct settings for it... So, I just gave up on it... But eh, I dont mind playing decent games like, "Battle of wesnoth"... When I get bored of Linux games, I just play Runescape and FFR...
