I used to, I see them everyday right by my school, but I don't anymore, especially after I went to NYC and saw a guy holding a sign, that said, "I need money for booze, drugs, and a hooker. But hey, at least I'm not bull****ting you"

I bought a hobo a steak dinner once. On a separate occasion I brought a hobo to a bath house and got him a shower and bought him new clothes. Several other times I've given hobos money, anywhere from 10-20 dollars. I've bought hobos 40 ouncers and cigarettes before.

I don't really appreciate all of the hobo hate in this thread, and I'm not even kidding.

Waco has a huge rate of poverty, and one of the more expensive schools in the country is right smack in the middle of it. I have friends who make light of the homeless situation just outside our "bubble", and it bothers me to no end. Here I am at the largest Baptist university in the country, and these dumbasses in their expensive cars bought by their parents would rather make fun of the less fortunate than spare a few dollars (and nearly all my fellow students have change to spare).

I get irritated at people who automatically assume a homeless person will use handouts for booze, but that's probably because the panhandlers I've dealt with sit around the group of fast food restaurants just off campus. They are trying to get something to eat. I know a lot of people do have substance habits they are trying to fight, but we are talking about people who really can't get any lower, and really -- what are you going to spend that dollar on?

PS If you'd like to belittle those less fortunate than you, you can just go suicide now kthx.

I'd much rather eat bbq out of a trash can than watch naruto all day. I think i'd have a higher chance of shooting myself from that.

I give them food, not money. Therefore, they cannot buy any sort of drugs. Only eat what you gave them.

Once when I was 16 I gave a homeless man in a train station some money to buy me and my friends some alcohol and promised more if he actually came back with it. He made at least 20 bucks off of me.

And I do tend to give beggars a dollar here and there.

One time I just gave them drugs. I had to ditch it because my friend said the cops were coming so I went under a bridge and let them fight for it. Although, I felt bad so I gave them some food with it. No sense in making a starved person that much hungrier.

If you see someone asking for money to pay for food, then offer to go buy him/her some. If food is truly what he/she needs, they will accept it.

I was in Washington D.C. a few months back, and a homeless person was waiting for donations. He got bored, put his Dunkin' Donuts cup behind him, and took out a few beers and some cigarettes. I left.

When I was in Shanghai, China, there was a homeless person sleeping on the sidewalk so I put 100 yuan in his hand.
