    Re: Vista

Unless your computer isn't that great wait until Service Pack 1 comes out. An OS as complex as windows takes so long to have it de-bugged. If you want to get rid of it though this is how you should do it:

    1. Turn off your computer. Turn it back on and tap F12 OR F8 depending on your brand. If this doesn't work, research how to get your system BIOS menu for your brand of computer.

    2. Go to System Boot Sequence and put your D drive as number 1. Your D drive may be named a number of things.

    3. Exit and save changes and make sure your Windows XP disc is in the D drive.

    4. Follow the on screen instructions which may take a few tries. You want to delete NOT REPAIR your hardrive(s).

    5. Make a new partition using all of your memory. From there the rest is super easy.

      Re: Vista

Format your hard drive via booting from the windows xp cd. Then install. Also, do a quick format, it's quicker.

Oh and when you get the chance, install windows xp sp3. It's not out yet, but it's leaked, so download it.

                    Re: Vista

The graphics are technically "better." I can't really notice the difference but the specs don't lie. However, everything runs slower. It's not worth it. The data transfer from XP to Vista is atrocious. Some files won't make it over. Others will be corrupted or won't run right. My dad has problems with every office application since he bought a new computer with vista and transferred his old files over. On the subject of compatibility, as long as gamers refuse to buy vista, games won't be developed exclusively for vista unless they're made by microsoft. It's supply and demand. There might be compatibility issues a few years down the road, but I'm hoping that most of the problems with vista will be resolved by then. I really doubt there will be any problems running an XP system even 5 years from now as long as you don't care about microsoft's new toys. No amount of pleading on the part of microsoft will get blizzard or anyone else to make their games vista-exclusive.

Btw, XP isn't going to be produced starting next year or so, so get your copy of XP while you can!

Vista is so crappy.. I don't think I've met a single person on FFR who has Vista and doesn't lag when playing.

If you don't have a CD with all the backup drivers on it, then you're in for a major pain in the ass. You'll have to go to the manufacturers sites to download each of them. It wasn't worth the trouble for me so I paid some guys $60 to roll me back from Vista to XP (my new laptop came with Vista). This goes without saying, but Vista SUCKS.

I'm not sure what Window's was thinking when they released Vista. It is possibly the worst operating system I have ever encountered. Thank god of I have xp.
