(CBS/AP) CBS News has learned a task force of agencies, including the FBI, ATF, the Orange County Fire Authority and the California Department of Forestry will announce shortly that the massive Santiago Canyon Fire -- which has caused an estimated $10 million in damage -- is being officially declared an arson, and a $70,000 reward is being offered to find the arsonist.
In San Bernardino County, a man suspected of starting a small fire was arrested and another man was shot to death by police after he fled officers who approached to see if he might be trying to set a fire.

I admit that I feel sorry for all of the people that are having their livelihoods destroyed by the fire, but I also think that this is a humbling experience and that much can be learned from it. Those rich people living in Malibu and what not will hopefully learn that they should not put so much into material objects when they can be destroyed so easily.
If you had a bunch of money, what would you do? Donate to charity? Aww, how cute. Well I would earn all my money and if I were to keep it all, nobody could stop me (except the government ).
Materialism is not bad. The "moral" condescending stance against materialism sends shivers down my back. While lots of money is not required to live a great life, many studies show a correlation (it is moderate, but it is very clearly there) between those living without much money and those who live with a lot of it. And lots of people actually earn that money through hard work throughout their entire lives along with a bit of opportunity (seriously, most people in America have had a chance to do good for themselves as kids, especially in this day and age where I could learn everything from 7th grade to grad school mathematics from a Google search).
You're an insensitive little ****, saying that those who buy a lot should "learn" from this. Do you seriously consider that a moral high-ground? Everyone loses with these fires, and I cannot believe you make exceptions in any sense of the word.
Well I think it sucks to lose your home, and I feel sorry for everyone down there. However, my heart does go out more to the non-celebrities and upper class folks down there mainly because they have more money and can get back on their feet much more easily.
